Thatcher in the UK should have done the same thing with the mines. Just give them to Arthur Scargill for free and let him run them. See how long they'd have lasted then when power stations flat refused to buy their coal because it was four
times the price of Polish open cast coal.
Watch Scargill make the tough decisions on cost-cutting and efficiency. It would have been all over in months. Pricks.
You know what they ought to do with bolshy unions? Hand over the company for them to run on their own.
There you go lads. You think you can do such a fucking good job. It's all yours. Now you can worry about pension contributions, payrolls, disciplinary issues, manning issues etc.
You go and negotiate rates with your customers. Off you fuck.
Buffet in the end is rank Capitalist. He's ok on a few fringe issues but he's just a mouth piece for putting a corrupt system back together. Another future example of "the bigger they are the harder they fall". He's on the edge of senility--it won't be long.
Like Warren Buffett knows anything about economics.
Getting rid of the secret ballot would be awesome for everybody. Why? Because unions are totally free of corruption and they don't intimidate and assault those who disagree with them. Everybody loves unions, which is why they represent a whnopping 8% of the private sector work force. They aren't full of thugs and criminals,at all.

What have unions done to our country? Let's look at the teachers' unions: 26 years ago, a bipartisan commission said that *if a foreign power had done to our children what we do to them in our schools, we would consider it an act of war*. We can say the same thing about labor unions. If a foreign power had done to GM and Chrysler and the airlines and the steel industry what the labor unions have done, we would justifiably call that an act of war. We have coddled unions for too long.
Where do you want to start? Labor Unions made it illegal for kids to work in sweatshops. We brought about OSHA. Weekends. 40 hour work weeks. Overtime. Liveable wages. We just saved so much money on the largest road project in WI State history that they used $80,000 to thank the UNION workers for getting the project done on time and way under budget. You're using a quote from 26 years ago to defend your position? LMAO Wake up and put away the herbs.
So, unions have taken away the right of children to make a living, unless it's in a unionized screen actors' guild. Unions have burden workplaces with more regulations than needed. Unions take the credit for incentives employers regularly offer their employees. Unions have made a complete mess of the Big Dig project, which is long delayed, overbudget, and unsafe. Maybe if unions didnt insist on using shoddy road materials (for job security on endless repairs), we might actually have good roads.
A supporter of child labor. LMFAO Shoddy materials? You really have no clue. Ever hear of inspectors? Every truck of cement is inspected as well as all of the work. Again - stay away from the herbs - you're REALLY out of your league.
So there's a huge debate about whether unions are good or bad.
Let me ask you: Do you think making $60.00 / hr is a living wage? How many doctors DON'T make $60.00/hr? How many teachers DON'T make $60.00/hr? is a guy who screws in nuts and bolts or worse a guy who makes sure the computer doesn't break down that screws in nuts and bolts worth more than a doctor or teacher?
you guys have your heads screwed on wrong. GM hasn't had a profit since the 60's WISE UP IDIOTS, UNIONS ARE PART OF THIS
I don't know a single teacher who does make $60.00/hr (unless you count college professors). $60.00/hr for full time work=$120,000/year. Even if you factor in Summer Vacation, it's still $100,000/year.
were you just trying to throw your 2 cents in there for some reason? you didn't even comment on the subject at all.
are you somehow disagreeing that union workers don't or do make 60/hr? it's very stupid to try to prove someone wrong when you don't even comment on the topic and go off subject.
i obviously don't know about unions? you came to that conclusions because i said someone makes $60/hr? are you that dense for real or are you joking around?
you need to check your own facts buddy $57 / hr is pretty close to $60 / hr in my book. What union are you talking about? the teachers union? the maid union? what union are you talking about?
if you can't follow the conversation just stay out of it. Hell even fox business news, cnbc, msnbc, cbs all quoted union wages at that or higher.
So where did you fail to get your info? your failure at this has nothing to do with anyone else.
How about something I know firsthand - the Union I belong to. Our scale is $30.09/hr. What Union are you claiming gets $57/hr on their check?(if I didn't love what I do for a living, I might consider switching careers) You came up with the number, let's dissect your (mis)information.
Every time we have waste, fraud and abuse it turns out that the Republican Party have their hand in it (not Ron Paul). Every time the taxpayer gets screwed its the Republican Party that blocks reform and oversight and they have the nerve to have tea bag parity so they can build political support so they can in act more waste, fraud and abuse.
See Senator Byron Dorgans Videos: Crystal Ball, Iraq Waste Floor Speech, The American People Should Not Stand for This and Others
The rest of the GOP should follow Arlen Specter leadership and become democrats.
The GOP has a higher number of corrupted senators then democrats. We need more people like Senator Byron Dorgan and Ron Paul so we can cut out the waste, fraud and abuse. This is the only way we can lower taxes. We have corruption on both sides and we need to see thought the smoke and mirrors.
Good for labor and good for workers are two completely different things. My uncle's union stayed on strike over a dispute of $.50/hr until the factory got so fed up they closed. Instead of getting a $20/week raise, everyone got laid off.
i can almost see in my crystal ball that GM and company stay in business simply because they are the red headed step children of big oil in america, and they are needed to funnel the money from stupid consumers buying 100 yr old technology in the form of a combustion engine. what sane business man keeps his doors open if a union is ruining him? demands more than a doctor salary? demands nearly millionaire retirement benefits?
All of my experience with unions has been bad... They only seem to protect the jobs of the lazy good for nothings. At hte same time everyone has to pay them for 'protection'. Might as well be the Mafia.
Theres another regular POS right there. How many billions of dollars has this f ag made off of the backs of hard working Americans? How much TARP money has he taken?
Why are people so freaked out? If an employer is paying a good wage, good benefits and treating workers with respect then the unions pose no danger to them.
If an employer is paying a good wage, good benefits and treating workers with respect then the unions are unnecessary and will only cause trouble to make themselves appear to be useful. Unions are nothing but agitators with a dangerous socialist anti-business agenda.
Unions protect workers. You want to talk about driving up costs? Check out how much the CEOs' salaries have risen and compare that to the stagnant wages that workers have had. Yep, look at the Big 3. Didja notice the CEOs all had private jets when they flew to DC? LMAO GET A CLUE!
How can you be more productive/safe and hurt the economy? LMAO There's nothing wrong with making a liveable wage to support one's family. Union wages are NEGOTIATED between Labor and Management. I'd LOVE to make 100/hr but understand that nobody would be able to afford to hire me. I'm in a Union and voted Democrat because I'm still too poor to vote Republican't.
Unions make workplaces less productive: strikes, restrictive job descriptions, interrupting work to spread socialist propaganda, etc. Unions will destroy businesses from the inside and then whine and cry for taxpayer bailouts, just like they did to GM, Ford, Chrysler, Dana, Visteon, Delphi, the steel industry, etc.
Negotiated agreements are best negotiated with individuals, not out of touch thugs at the top of the union food chain. Forcing satisfied workers to stop working does not help anyone
This is about the trade policies and deregulation put in place by the ultra rich so they can milk billons from the economy and tax payers, they got people brainwashes and divided with race, guns, religion union and non union so they can slip in deregulation for the banks, utilities and big business so the top 5% can boost profits. THINK about it and look who is doing what and why.
Nobody wants to be FORCED into a union that will FORCE them to pay dues and then FORCE them to miss work because of a strike they voted against.
And workers would be a whole lot more satisfied if they wouldn't be forced to endure mindless anti-business propaganda designed to make them unsatisfied--- rather than just doing a good job and getting promoted for good work instead of "seniority".
We have a long waiting list to get into our Union. Seniority is a non-factor. Strikes are a last resort and nobody wants to see one in place. If you don't bust your butt, you get sent packing to find another job. The EFCA is all about letting the majority decide if they want a Union.
I was wrong, you REALLY need some education on Unions.
You might want to consider actually busting your butt, instead of relying on thugs to protect you from sloth and inadequacy.
Unions are a pest that destroy productive enterprise from within. Which explains why unionized industries like steel, airlines, and autos are the ones who can't stand on their own.
Unions don't help business. Unions don't help employees. Unions don't help America. Unions only help themselves.
Unions are greedy pests who have been given too many privileges.
The difference is that unions embezzle their members' dues and underfund their members' pensions and insurance plans.
And you have no right to demand to know where the profits of non-union contractors go. It would be worth being payed a lesser wage just to avoid to fed all the union's socialist propaganda and coercive dues collection and intimidation to vote their way on issues. Unions don't look out for workers; unions only look out for themselves.
Sorry - I know where our dues go. Pension, annuity, ehalth and welfare, training, defense fund. Our President gets paid 120/month for being President. He has to put in a 40 just like everybody else. Our pension is funded at 89% and even with the crash on Wall Street, our money is in GREAT shape.
You have to be among THE least informed that I have come across.
Putittogether, Congratulations on finally forming a half way coherent sentence! Now if you will allow yourself to deviate from the John Birch Society play book, you might actually become someone worth havening a conversation with.
necronomicjustice, What is wrong with unions and socialism? Socialism works, just look around the world, and all those rich, and happy communist and socialist nations.
Why do people who support workers support democrats?
Do not lose sight that this is all in support of workers (99% of the population). Democrats are in the interest of GOOD jobs for Americans and that is why they support EFCA.
You know what I have seen, I have seen a whole market of union busting. With the current system, businesses are able to hire union busters who intimate workers and find ways to get rid of the organizing workers.
I haven't only seen this, this has happened to me.
Union bosses are good for the workers. You should be required to show your union card and if you don't have one be forced to join the union, and pays dues, that in turn pays bribes to Congress. Unions and Congressmen only want to help you.
I am telling screw freedom it sucks, Freedom of contract is worthless and should be taken away. Everybody should be forced to join a union or lose their job, period. Unions are good for workers....
Yeap, came across a tidbit about GM having set up a "Jobs Bank" to entice the UAW to go along with experimenting the efficient model of the foreign car makers. It turned out to be welfare. Entire rooms at factories where workers stand around doing nothing at all because of fear that their firings would incur the wrath of the UAW. Another interesting fact: current median price of houses in Detroit: $7500
Wake up! The whole economic collapse was planned by the elites who were worried that too many baby boomers would retire at once. That won't be happening any time soon.

Secret ballots need to be done away with since companies abuse everything in the process. Level the playing field. If they would just pay people then no problem.
I'd rather hear Warren Buffet talk about his long time pal Hank Greenberg, former CEO of AIG - the center of the economic collapse - and currently under indictment for fraud.
You can tell about people by the company they keep, Warren Buffet pals around with economic terrorists.
Who, besides Bill Gates, is more wealthy than Warren Buffet?
We've had 400-600 years of boom bust economics. ALL Rich Elites are ruthless enough to take advantage of the economic cycle.
Capitalism needs slaves, but won't enforce collectivisation.
Capitalism enslaves people through Property (Land) Laws, forcing everyone to rent or buy back land (that nature gave freely) making them work 800% harder & by devastating the people's wealth in great depressions & using inflationary policy.
Newsflash! Obama's out of control spending is likely to cause hyper-inflation! If and when it happens the dollar will be worth so little that you may as well use it as t.p.!

Now we know where Buffet's priorities truly lie.
He's a wolf in sheep's clothing. He loves to play up his populist image (i eat hamburgers and live in nebraska).
In reality he's against the working man.

Wake up! The whole economic collapse was planned by the elites who were worried that too many baby boomers would retire at once. That won't be happening any time soon.

Secret ballots need to be done away with since companies abuse everything in the process. Level the playing field. If they would just pay people then no problem.

Companies have stopped paying people?

I'd rather hear Warren Buffet talk about his long time pal Hank Greenberg, former CEO of AIG - the center of the economic collapse - and currently under indictment for fraud.
You can tell about people by the company they keep, Warren Buffet pals around with economic terrorists.

i'm sure AIG is the center of this collapse. Open your eyes. this is all planned out by people way more wealthy than buffett and much more powerful.
all the lights are going out at the same time. not by accident.

"this is all planned out by people way more wealthy than buffett and much more powerful"
No, Warren Buffet IS those people. Don't let the "folksy" bullshit fool you, Buffet and his friends are the people "planning it"

Warren Buffet is correct! The secret ballot is very important. Why should my vote be made public?
jgrimm34 2 years ago
Too bad Mr. Buffet obviously didn't read the legislation.
