Wow. Its a long time since my comment. 8 Months has passed and i see 230 tumbs up. Ive been to Sweden and ive met so many nice people who dont care about sharing an care with me, giving me a diner or beeing nice against me. It proves me that ''humanity'' is not lost. Its there and you will find it ive you search hard enough. Sweden was awsome, ive seen so many things that changed my life. But people please remember the last note of his diary. happiness is only real when shared. <3 you.
That's exactly what it is...people are liveing and dieing with out knowing that they didn't truely live becouse they followd what modern society has laid out for them don't follow a man made destiney follow your own. Build you own path don't follow others.
It has nothing to do with just walking... Jeez... Your heart can be free living and working in society... It just so happened this was what he had to do to set himself loose.
I realy belive that this music could start a revolution . It could clean up all those things wich are wrong . It could change the world to a better place. It could help the people all over the world to become conscious about the wonderfull world they live in.
Love the "Into the Wild" soundtrack, but am I the only one who thinks that a harmonica is missing? You'd think there would be at least one song with it!
I have to agree with LiberalJerseyman. If McCandless had survived, I'm sure he would have looked back and thought, "wow, that was a really foolish thing to do" and you would have never heard of him. He had ideals and nothing wrong with that but I think the movie tends to romanticize the whole thing. All in all, not a bad movie and a great soundtrack.
@TOONERCAT I agree with you...In my comment to Literljersy man... I wasnt trying to condon mccandles act of walking into the woods without a clue...but he had a dream and he followed it. it yes did end in tragedy but look at what became of his story ( beyond the book crap and movie..) It has made people think and the fact that there are a shit ton of people debating *lol* with eachother here proves that he touched lives and his story is effective.
So sweet! Screw School = why contain yourself like any other book on a shelf. Screw companionship = My shadow stays with me as we leave it all far behind.
Damn I just wish we could all create a mass demonstration and everyone would just start walking with no money. Do it together, do it alone, with your dog, or your shadow. Just walk away from this sick society. We gotta do it.
@spungoo spoken like true youth. Mass Demonstration tho, wouldnt it be better for everyone to just get it? demonstrations are for people who want attention, Artforms like the song, movie and life of A Supertramp are meant to guide people to a real conclusion to actually leave it all behind!
@TheAntiChr1st Which is not how Christopher McCandless died at all :) Do read the book of this amazing story; often the story is changed in the movies to make it more dramatic, as it happened in this instance.
@spungoo Chris' dying words were: "Happiness is only real when shared" Stop being a child and see what Chris' death taught us all: Not to repeat what he did, but modify your life in a similar style.
@spungoo the angelic eddie vedder is definitely not saying screw school at all. understand his words and how retarded having no education is, thats ridiculous to think. it mean get out and do things great things dont be like every other average joe the works 9-5 and have no impact on the world around you what so ever,, nuff said.
i told my girlfriend this is the ideal way of live, but you cant do it anymore i say : the people are changed, they wont take you anymore in their car they wont show you the way', she said yes the people are changed but not in that way, they changed in the direction that they dont dare this anymore! but i dare and tomorrow i shall walk to Sweden! see ya capitalism i am free!

@thedude652 If you look on the internet you'll find that Eddie Vedder is the lead singer of Pearl Jam, and for the movie Into the wild he made an entire CD. Is that answering your question?
Thanks, i already know about pearl jam and the rest of the CD though. i was wondering if anyone knew of any cool acoustic/folk singers that might sound like this cd.
All the dumb ass needed was a map, then he would have known about the bridge. And wouldn't have died causing his family and all the loved ones he left along his journey to mourn their loss. SELFISH!

well kombipode, you're a complete retard because of the following reasons :
1st : you use caps lock
2nd: you spell like a 5 year old
3th: he died because he ate a certain (toxic) plant that resulted in heaving severe stomach and bowel pain, and therefore he could not eat anything. As doctors and people in general then say : the primary cause of death was poison. Just as people don't say: some guy died because of head injury, they say: because he jumped down off a building.
@DionisusBond You are definitely right about the death thing. Most poisonings are like this. Its similar to when people die from diseases like diabetes and aids. Aids and diabetes don't kill, its that they cause other things to kill you.
4th: there was a supply shelter ravaged near the place Chris lived. However, since it was 30 km away and Chris did not have a typical personality to ravage things for no reason, it is very unlikely that it was Chris
5th: even if he took things from a supply shelter, then this is not a weird or bad thing since his life was in danger.
6th: because you shout things like they are facts while actually you aren't informed well at all
I am just tired of hollywood jew producers forcing writers and directors to change the truth of a story. the the jew rulers have arguments like "it wont sell otherwise" - yeh thats because jews have been selling so much politically motivated lies in films dressed with feel-goodies that the population have become ADDICTED to the crap just like you get addicted to coffee and sugar, and alcohol. And I am sick of it. Why not just explore the damn story
@KombiPode Dude who cares if if its completly true or not, the most important part is the message. Stop beeing cynical and apreciate the beauty of it.
Eddie Vedder is a lyrical genius and IMO has one of the best singing voices ever. They could not have picked anybody better to write or sing the songs for this movie. R.I.P Supertramp I hope to have the guts to live a life like you someday, such a great and open minded individual.
@whatsupbato ____-----==== See the thing is that in those very days that Prophet Sir Supertramp the Wonderous was out there dying: on those very days - Pearl Jam were playing on every single jukebox in the western world. So some of those songs brought one back to the very time and place where one was on those very days. Blessed is Jon Krakauer is amazing for picking up this Story, and Eddie Vedder is gifted for his input.
@8NNNNN This is a good comment and I was barely one when Supertramp passed on but I love Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder's voice and these songs and story inspire me so much. Such a great combination.
@LiberalJerseyman at least he had the balls to follow a dream..sometimes our paths may seem odd and a bit stupid..but look YOU are talking of him after his death...its like throwing a pebble in a pond...the ripples move in bigger and bigger circles..he touched lives...even yours...so who knows what shall ultimatly come from his life..I give mccandles props for having the gall to try...and not live in fear.
he will also die knowing and probably thinking what a fool he was for eating poisonous berries. well, he cant get any closer to mother earth than he is now. i think eddie vedder said, brown to black is coming back, dies to be part of the ground. seed to seedling, root to shell! good movie by the way.
@ikeano29 according to the author of the book who did extensive research and investgation (including going to the site of the bus and surrounding area) he didn't eat the wrong plants. Rather, the most likely culprit was mold on them which was the the result of his subsequent starvation.
@yourdefense23154 and it wasnt poisonous wild "potato" in the movie either. learn how to spell and then come back to me lad....actually you're wrong about the movie and the book. learn to read and watch a movie tit
@ikeano29 Hey faggot, whos the tit? watch the movie. It is wild potato. And what did I spell wrong? I know how to spell better than you queer. And it WAS mold. faggot YOU read the book.
@ikeano29 NO SHIT!! He ate the mold, leading to starvation, leading to death! And faggot, I would like to see you play ANY instrument and then talk shit. Piano doesn't count...unless you're a faggot... So it counts. ^ ^
A lot of people seemed to miss the whole point of this amazing movie. Makes me sad.

@whatsupbato So a guy who wanders off into the Alaskan wilderness, but has no idea how to live off the land is your hero? Strange.

@LiberalJerseyman at least he had the balls to follow a dream..sometimes our paths may seem odd and a bit stupid..but look YOU are talking of him after his death...its like throwing a pebble in a pond...the ripples move in bigger and bigger circles..he touched lives...even yours...so who knows what shall ultimatly come from his life..I give mccandles props for having the gall to try...and not live in fear.

well at least one will die knowing they lived with mother earth.
dropdeadso1 1 year ago
he will also die knowing and probably thinking what a fool he was for eating poisonous berries. well, he cant get any closer to mother earth than he is now. i think eddie vedder said, brown to black is coming back, dies to be part of the ground. seed to seedling, root to shell! good movie by the way.

with my mentality, what?
ikeano29 1 year ago
@ikeano29 according to the author of the book who did extensive research and investgation (including going to the site of the bus and surrounding area) he didn't eat the wrong plants. Rather, the most likely culprit was mold on them which was the the result of his subsequent starvation.
LjpointG 1 year ago
@LjpointG yes, your right, it was starvation. sorry, i should read the book because it seems the film lied about a few things like films usually do.
ikeano29 1 year ago
@ikeano29 Actually it was poisonous wild potato in the movie. The book it was mold.
yourdefense23154 1 year ago
@yourdefense23154 read the book again lad. it was not mold...
ikeano29 1 year ago
@yourdefense23154 and it wasnt poisonous wild "potato" in the movie either. learn how to spell and then come back to me lad....actually you're wrong about the movie and the book. learn to read and watch a movie tit
ikeano29 1 year ago
@ikeano29 Hey faggot, whos the tit? watch the movie. It is wild potato. And what did I spell wrong? I know how to spell better than you queer. And it WAS mold. faggot YOU read the book.
yourdefense23154 1 year ago
@yourdefense23154 you're the tit lol it was neither by the way. cause of death was starvation. fucking nimrod
ikeano29 1 year ago
@ikeano29 NO SHIT!! He ate the mold, leading to starvation, leading to death! And faggot, I would like to see you play ANY instrument and then talk shit. Piano doesn't count...unless you're a faggot... So it counts. ^ ^
