  • depressing the third valve itself isn't a position? why not?

  • @gamgam44990

you can hit notes on it but its to uncomfortable

the other positions are easier to use

  • well u see you can play different notes with each valve for example in what he called second position you can play a B natural, in the staff. below the staff or above the staff (you can take the octave of the note as high or low as you can), you can also play an f# (again) in the staff, below, or above it. Each position can make at least two different notes. But if you're really good you can bend the note and you can make any note come out in almost any position

  • i wish i picked this instead of a dumb clarinet.

  • So the trumpet can only play 7 notes? Or is it like a scale (I have piano background)? Changing the pitch through your mouth will change the octaves of the notes you produce? (Sorry if I sound like a noob; I have no experience playing brass instruments.)

  • @AdobeExcel pretty much more air + tighter lips = higher note

  • This is not a trumpet. I have serval videos that say learn trumpet, but they show different instruments . Dude put the right stuff onwill yeah.

  • @AngelikavonDeutschla that is a trumpet.f-kin wannabe

  • I Remember When I Got My Trumpet 6th Grade, I Was So Excited LOL.

  • sry but its stupid video

  • which is better trumpet or cornet? i no they r sort of the same thing but still xx

  • like a vuvuzela

  • From a trumpet player, pressing the valves is what you want to learn last. Learn NOT TO press the mouthpeice too hard on your lips. Start a little bit here, a litlte bit there. Slowly developing the embrochure I can't spell either.

  • Greatly helpful. I'm looking through these videos to see if I want to start taking lessons.

  • im the best trumpet player in my bang class

  • @MrOMFGN You serious? I want to meet you.

  • @SquireMooreable you don't want to meet him he is a complete idiot

  • @MrOMFGN lol i ment band

  • I picked my brothers old trumpet and im going to learn to play better than all the trumpets in our band. I'm a drummer.

  • i play euphonium do you think i can play trumpet i think i was ment for the trumpet

  • i play the trumpet but our notes are 5 4 3 2 1

  • you leaned me 7 out of 100?

    where is the rest?

  • @MrWonnabee By pressing down the valves you change the harmonic series which gives you different notes. There are only 12 notes by the way. The notes change octave once you hit the 13th step.

  • so complex should have picked the trumbone

  • i really want to play trumpet now

  • WOW I'VE BEEN PLAYING TRUMPET FOR 7 YEARS NOW IF ONLY IT WERE THAT EASY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That was G down to C# right?

  • @DoytleCp yes, i can tell cause it sounds like it. =D

  • @taylorswiftrockmysox Yes! xD!

  • @DoytleCp haha

  • As a 35-year trumpeter myself, your "positions" made absolutely no sense at all. And this after having watched several times. I guess what I didn't get was how you arrived at your "positions." Maybe it's because I learned the "scale," not "positions." Like "ooeeooaaaa" said, C is open, D is 1st and 3rd valves, etc. Also the video is quite dark and hard to watch. At least we can see your fingers push the valves, but again, the "positions" thing makes no sense.

  • @wannawatchu66 really what he played was a desending scale

    from high to low

  • @strikeme5 Oh OK...thanks.

  • @wannawatchu66: Could you please tell me, I have a Bach Mercedes trumpet that plays a D in the open position. I know, (well actually I guess) it's not a Bb trumpet, but what is it? I'm having trouble finding a fingering chart.

  • @Nu13th Good question. Sounds like a D trumpet. That would be my guess. How do you know it's a D in the open position? Did you compare the open position note to the D note on a piano, or from the person from whom you got the trumpet? I would say to take it to a music store, ask them what you asked me and see what they say and what they have in the way of fingering charts. I'm sure they can point you in the right direction. My trumpets are all Bb.

  • @wannawatchu66 Yes, I compared the tone to my piano and it's a D5 or fifth D on the piano. I'll take it to our local high school band director. He plays trumpet. Thanks for your reply.

  • This is a great video, 5 stars! If I learned my trumpet fingerings as 1 to 7, I would have understood trombone slide positions. Thank you for this from an old trumpet player interested in learning trombone.

  • That is a ridiculous way of learning notes on the trumpet, it will make it 1000000 times easier just to say C: open valve, D: 1 and 3 E: 1 and 2 and so on your trumpet teaching skills suck.

  • Practicing musicians / learners, if you could fill out my easy 4 question survey for my research project it would be much appreciated. The link is in the info of my video called practicing musicians thanks.

  • what is a good price for a beginners trumpet? there is a trumpet at my violin school that i was going to ask about this week but before i did that, i wanted to know a good price range :) thanks for the video

  • Good video, but kinda confusing, maybe it would be better to talk about which combinations for notes?

  • @midgetme01 first time I've seen this guy's video it confused me to no end.

TO clear up what nonsense this guy teacher, made a video for that today.

It's a video showing what valves you use and what note it is used for. (Notes/ Valves) also have a group for learning such instruments.

Also ( warning: self promoting spam content) have a group that teaches other how to play such instruments, by beginners for beginners. So Check it out.

  • You ain't playing trumpet , dude because you're ridiculous :)

  • wtf? i was never taught this when i learned the trumpet at school. this vid was useless

  • Eureka High. Epic.

  • pourquoi tout compliquer?

  • KA KA

  • Positions? That's trombone. Trumpet? Try valve combinations.

  • It looks like a binary coded..

    000 to 111

    /watch?v=fCHmOK9RIek

  • my lips are numb but i've only just started

  • if you're interested in playing trumpet, take a look at my site allabouttrumpet (dot) yolasite (dot) com

  • THATS NOT THE TRUMPET SCALE! its G D A F C E B High C

  • Whats a trumpet? I've never heard that word before.

  • @civicdude101 DUDE! Thts horrible!Even my grandma knws it

  • obviously you don't know very much about playing. even commercial orchestral players use alternate fingerings.

  • don't you know that every single trumpet has notes that are out of tune. alternate fingerings can fix that.

  • how come u r replying to a diff. topic uh?lols

  • I'm sorry, were you commenting on my joke???

  • so it was a joke? =.="

  • when i asked what a trumpet was I was being sarcastic. it's ok. no harm.

  • all I know is what combination of values (1 2 3) make which notes, the rest is pitch. Never heard this before and quite franky, confuses me.

  • by the way, I'll post a video response on this.

  • wow basicly everybody that knows how to play the trumpet knows that fuckin basic bullshit

  • @NinjazC4t well why do u have to be so negative about it? I'm a beginner I found it useful

  • well this video is for people who DON"T know how to play the trumpet!

    ......dooshrocket.....

  • @Robo0595 ok for future referance, u spell douche *douche* not doosh.

but yes it will not help at all being a trumpet playa for 3 years now

  • Congrats, Expert Village! This is the first video from you that actually got to the point without a bunch of amateur bullshit. Thanks a lot, dickface.

  • how do you play a c

  • i still dont get how the third valve isent not a notee

  • cuz valves 1 and 2 is the equivalent of 3.....and they just found it easier i guess :P

  • It isn't a note in the classical sense. It is equal to valves 1 and 2 combined just as Drummaboyy13 said however when you play the third valve by itself it is generally very out of tune.

  • I use just the third valve when I play my E and A because they are sharp with 1 and 2. and I don't have a first valve slide.

  • @civicdude101 if you use your 3rd valve to play an E or A, they will be extremely flat. try lipping them down with the normal fingering. OR you could have a thumb saddle put on the 1st valve slide, it doesn't cost much.

  • very helpful

  • i played trumpet like 10 years ago and i really enjoyed it. I'm hopefully will be gettin a trumpet for my birthday

  • i was playin alto saxo but my band teacher switch to trumpet cause they need more players..and i ned help this help a little bit tanx

can ya send me som good videos

  • why, oh why did i choose to play the clarinet? ):

  • im playin the trumpet cause they change me into trumpet at college cause there only two trumpets im a beginer in trumpet im been playin for 1 half of month

  • it's ok but what about 8th position

  • ? what 8th position?

  • there is no 8th position on a trumpet, unless you want to count putting all three valves half-way down lol.

  • finally!!!!!!some good tone!!!!and teach c,d,e,f,g first so much eraser to learn that way

  • eraser? badddddd typo dude.

  • much ERASER is what you wrote not easier lol

  • i play trombone, but mah frnd n i traded

i have her trumpet 4 a while, and she has mah guitar 4 a while

  • i played trumpet for 2years now im playing saxophone!! =D

  • Now I'm starting to wish I chose the trumpet instead of the flute. D:

  • @xerinetta iknow it pisses me off cause instead of playing the trumpet i play the flute which is getting boring

  • @xerinetta why not do both?

  • @xerinetta i wish i chose trumpet instead of trombonne

  • @xerinetta no reason you can't learn both

  • @xerinetta Lol we actually have a flute player on jazz trumpet this year. You can totally pull it off.

  • @xerinetta i'd stick with flute even though i play alto saxophone

  • @xerinetta u still like flute or trumpet more?

  • man i forgot 2 how play my trumpet at school and i thought 1 and 3 was 2nd position

  • my tumpet is not playing the right sound. i don't know whats wrong it sounds lower than it is supposed to be. Tell me whats wrong!!!!

  • mine too ,

    check your water key thing

    D:

my music teacher fixed up mine and man is it easy now!!

  • flat maybe?

  • he needs to drop his jaw and push more air. its like hes putting a firehose worth of air in a garden hose. it sounds bad

  • this is confusing. He says first position is open the first time, and the second time first position is the middle valve. Which one is it??

  • Well! if you were not stupid maybe you would know what he means!

  • 1st position is open, 2nd position is2nd valve

  • when he said "First Position", his hand was open and wasn't touching the vaulves.

  • Thanks...

  • mine all sound the same?

uhh but my friend let me borrow it for a few weeks and i just got it today

    tips?

  • Sounds like you are new at this. Keep it up and eventually you will be good.

  • I've always wondered about the three valves, so you can then only play 7 notes on a trumpet?

  • Haha, No. not even close. There are way more than 7 notes.

  • No, the air speed creates more notes, so you can go octaves and accidentals and the like.

  • Ahh I see!

  • No You Can Play More

  • im in college and i still play trumpet

  • dud im 5 and i can play better than you u suck

  • I really doubt that. Make a video of you playing this said trumpet then I'll possibly believe you.

  • Wow. Did you have a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from CSU Fresno and a Masters of Music Performance on Trumpet from Ithaca College?

    No.

  • WOW...

    This smell..

    Flamers..

If You have anything to flame the video, just make one and teach people how to play this instrument, just don't make bad coments, because people don't like too see their work criticised by people who don't even know what they are talking about..

  • dude in in 7th grade and i can play better then you

  • wat about mouth positions or ameture should i say....wat about how fast the air should be...

  • well u act like i knew tht dnt come at me like that u disrespectfull....piece of shyt!!!!!

  • never heard of them being called positions? wat the heck this is my third years playing and never heard of positions before except on a trumbone.

  • how hard do you blow? i play perc, no brass or wind.

  • you shouldent really blow hard, only if its triple forte, or double....For forte, you wouldent blow THAT hard...

  • I have no experience with a trumpet at all, but I was just wondering how can you get different notes with the same positions?

  • the lips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • By changing your lip pressure (and air presure) For example, for c you would have loose lips and not alot of air presure.

For a higer d, you would have high air pressure ( for bginneers) and tighter lips

  • Not that you're not being helpful, but im starting trumpet lessons in a few days, and i just haven't memorized which buttons to press to make which notes. If anyone has any advice for me then you rock! thanks!

  • what about the 3rd valve by it self?

  • The third valve by itself is another version of valves one and two. It is sometimes used (by myself and some others) for very quick passages where it is a bit easier than doing 1 and 2. However, the intonation may be slightly different, but in a very fast passage probably wouldn't be noticed.

  • i love the trumpet its soooo ezy

  • how long you been playing?

  • 4mths but now i dunt play it anymore!

    swizzy<3

  • I PLAY TRUMPET $ MY SCHOOL BAND XD

  • i'm thinking about playing the trumpet for my school band!

  • i play the trumpet.

  • i've never heard of positions before,

    but i found it helpful

  • its brass lol

  • helped a ton thanks soo much

  • omg i need to KNOW HOW YOU PLAY THE FRIGGIN SOUND TO GET THE SOUND TO GET ALL SCREEECHY DUDE PLEASE MAKE A VID TELLING US HOW TO AMKE THE SOUND THE WAY YOU DO IT NOT ALL SCREECHY SO PLEASE MAKE ONE I NEED TO LEARN LIKE RIGHT NOW SO PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ MAKE ONE FOR ME

  • dude just buzz your lips

  • need help benn playing trumpet for four years and some thimg weird is happening to my instrument my second valve is stuck i cleaned it and yeah there was gunk in it put a little valve oil but theres still friction going on,plz help!first time this has ever happened.

  • you may have dented it slightly, and the bump is whats causing the friction.

  • i dont know if im just a beginer or what but his trumpet sounds so much higher than mine

  • Wait a sec then... A trumpet only has seven sounds?!?!? But what about the other 5 to atleast make an octave? Oh well, you have to be able to hit atleast one of the notes in the triad.

  • no, you can play more than one note using the same valve position. The trumpet's official range is about two and a half octaves - though many players can get more than that.

  • I imagine by increasing the amount of air that's going through the trumpet right? Blowing harder?

  • ...and increasing pressure yes.

  • Better to think of increasing SPEED of air and tightening embouchure, and, ( a big and), supporting it all with proper diaphragm control.

  • i just got the trumput today and i think i have the hang of it alittle.... good vid but i still need help

  • i really wanna play a brass instrument. would trumpet be the easiest?

  • I think the alto sax is the easiest for a brass instrument. I play both but my main deal is guitar so what do I know...

  • i keep hearing the sax would be the easiest. my main deal is drums.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but the sax is a woodwind. reed..

  • yup, your right, it is a woodwind instrument.

  • no its a brass

  • no, someone was asking about the sax, that's what i meant by it's a woodwind

  • The flute doesn't use a reed and it is a woodwind instrument.

  • the saxophone isn't a brass instrument. it has a reed mouthpiece so it's woodwind

  • true.......though if you buzz on it (on the neck not the mouthpiece) it will play....i thought that was pretty cool

  • im a 11th grade trumpet player..ive made very high classes with my trumpet..ive been places with very high honors. i love playing it and i have to say..it is a very hard instrement..i would play if if ur serious a bout playing but not if ur not gonna take it serious.

  • where there is a similar video in spanish??

  • your instrument has poor sound

  • I'm thinking about playing the trumpet, but I have heard different kinds of buzzing and I think I might be doing it wrong.

  • don't worry about it.

    just develop your own sound.

    everyone has their own sound

it gets better and easier and more fun as you go.

  • Thank you very much! That's definitely good to know!

  • cool i play the trumpet and you are right!!!

  • Coolio.
