  • Very good

  • @megapilus Thank you.

  • Magnifique chanson...

  • @EFoulard Thank you.

  • Great song and video. Funny, but unintentional (I'm sure) racism at 3:24, when the song says, "My Brother" and a picture of black Jesus comes up.

  • @Dueyruss It was unintentional. Thanks for commenting.

  • We are all OPHANS ON GOD'S HIGHWAY...and you can see by the pictures of these darling children, that GOD LOVES us all equally. And has only our greatest destiny planned for us in the GOLDEN LANDS OF PURE SPIRIT!!!

  • @moranplano

    John 14:2

"In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."

    John 14:18

“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you."

  • @beanscot Thank you for your gracious reply. I was familiar with the "many mansions" quote, but not the "orphans" scripture. I will look it up, now. Thanks again, and BLESSINGS!!!

  • @moranplano You're welcome! : )

  • wunderschön

  • New to Ms. Welch's music but so far I haven't heard anything that I don't like. She has such a soulful voice.

  • @laceyj1204 Yes, she does. Thank you for commenting.

  • Gillian and Dave, we love you in Lebanon, Ohio. Thanks so much.

  • Sometimes I hear a song that for me could not be bettered, and this is one.

  • @ianwalkerdownland Thank you for commenting.

  • @reliablebow You are so welcome! : )

  • Just watched the film Niagara Niagara (which can be seen for free here on youtube) and this song was on the soundtrack. Love it. Thanks for posting.

  • @DeadBunny69 You're welcome.

  • Beautiful song and images of real life peoplen. The message even warmed this agnostics heart. Thank you for the video and even if it is a little Jesus painting heavy for me, it is going on my favorites list.

  • @sawyers92 Thank you for commenting! I'm glad you liked it. : )

  • @sawyers92 Yeah, Gillian Welch intentionally revives the spririt of early 20th American folk/country, which is why many of her lyrics are suffused with religious references (as were many songs back then) - I'm not so sure she does it because of religious conviction, so much as reverence for the style. I'm as non-believing in the supernatural as Brian Non-believer from Non-beliefsville, unbeliefland, but I can really enjoy the old-time sentiments here. If anything, seems more innocent...

  • wow would have been a great video if you hadnt zoomed in on every picture get some new effects great song by a great artist

  • @deportpadro It was an early effort. I've redone it recently, if you'd rather watch that one, it's uploaded to my videos.

  • Yeah, god exict... Now we live in a world of science and we have descoerered that the universe is far beynd big. We live on this little sandcorn somewhere in the universe and belive in a guy in the sky. If we used the brain capasity to descover new ways to travel in space, maybe we could get intouch with the real "God". People must wake up!!!

  • @gautebjotveit God is. His existence does not depend on our belief in Him. That the universe is far beyond big tells me that God is bigger than what my mind could ever imagine. We will never fathom the depths of God's love while we walk this world, the same world that God sent his Son, Jesus, to walk the road to Calvary for us. He is an awesome God! He is a merciful God! He is.

  • Extraordinary and appropriate pictures to accompany this timeless song. Thank you!

  • @visualsummer You're welcome!

  • I love song its so beautiful

  • @JenPaaful Thanks for commenting. It is a beautiful song.

  • Beautiful!! Thank you so much for this.

  • @NurseLenny You're welcome!

  • I wish the effects on this song weren't quite so intrusive. The song didn't need the trippy atmospherics. I think we have T.Bone to blame for that. Still love the song alot though, so simple and heartfelt.

  • @terrybeaton Agreed, the song loses its power with the modern embeliishment - love the simple live versions with David Rawlings better - especially the 1997 video response here.

  • where can i find that picture at 3:38?? amazing picture. a baby all alone . must have

  • @Rachulie Are you asking about the picture of Jesus in the manger? That one can be found on the photobucket site, where I find most of my pictures.

  • This is such a warm and beautiful song, I love it so much!

  • @JenPaaful Thanks for commentng!

  • Wonderful! I really love the vintage photos that, you find to use in your videos. What a great way that, you have of spreading the word! Bravo! A thousand stars, for this and all of your videos!

  • Just let the video speak for itself.

  • @mh605 Thank you for commenting.

  • I could do without the preaching in the intro, but the video is lovely.

  • @mh605 Thank you for commenting.

  • This is the tune of all children...

  • i was a terrorised child,this is a quite peace,thanks

  • @chemurphy2010 you're welcome

  • Gillian was adopted as a very young infant, I wonder if this tune is about her mother giving her up for adoption

  • @Mygrassisblue01 That's an interesting thought. Thanks for commenting.

  • Always been a favourite since it came out..thanks beanscot.

  • sheer class

  • Thankyou beanscot for sharing this with the

world. I believe it will touch the heart of every

    person who see's it.

  • You're welcome... and many thanks to Gillian Welch too!

  • Personally, this piece is a gut-wrenching reminder of how jaded we are to the plight of children all over this world. The song is very special, Gillian is wonderful, and the videography is excellent and touching. Not a dry eye here.

  • Thanks for your comment. God will wipe away every tear.

  • I think this is a song that will be redone for years. A modern classic.

  • I think you're right. Thanks for commenting.

  • ohmyGod...Gillian....keep singing....

  • Really great job!!!!

  • Thanks for the comment!

  • This was probably one of the best things I've seen in a long time, I've loved this song for several years now but got the feeling really with your slides.

  • Thank you for your encouraging comment! God bless.

  • i was an orphan girl.

all were my sister and brother yet none.

    God was my only father.

  • Thank you.

  • Thank you for commenting. Jesus will always be my vision.

  • I was just introduced to Gillian Welch's music and I love it. She has a wonderful voice,as I say, simply sublime! Thank you for the post :)

  • You're welcome!

  • What an incredible song. Thanks for posting.

  • You're welcome!

  • Goodness.... this is a bit of a surprise on Youtube... Gillian Welch's 'Orphan Girl' sung by, er, Gillian Welch. Well done on posting it.

  • Thanks! : )

  • Its lovely and I love these relaxed style, thank you so much! Hello from Berlin/Germany

  • Hello back! Thanks for commenting!

  • Emmylou Harris introduced me to this song on her Wrecking Ball c.d. and I went out and bought this c.d. Both versions are beautiful. Don't have to compare them against each other.

  • So true! : ) Thank you!

  • This is a very sweet song. Usually not my style of music, but I really like it. Thanks. :)

  • You're welcome! Thanks for commenting.

  • I just did some research. Gilian Welch wrote the song. Emmylou Harris has also covered the song. May I gently suggest that that the discussion of the song was not an argument? Thanks for commenting.

  • your professed gentleness is noted. thanks for the reply.

  • The EH version is really good too. I don't think i have a favorite really. I love this one because it's the original and because of GW's way of making her songs sound like they were written over a hundred years ago, and The EH version is beautifully produced (not that this one isn't though) and happens to be on one of my favorite albums.

  • They're both fine musical artists. Gillian Welch has a primitive folk sound. Emmylou Harris has been a favorite of mine since the 70's. Thanks for your comments.

  • Thank you for the beautiful song and beautiful images.

  • You're welcome! : )

  • who wrote it? and does all your ridicululous arguing really matter?

just a thought. i was introduced to it by Emmy Lou Harris, but it may have been written by someonbe else.

    Don't know.

    Matt

  • I don't think it matters if you're christian or whatever... I'm an atheist myself i still think it's a beautiful song.

  • Yes, it is a beautiful song.

  • I love this song and artist and video. But I have problem with the ending, as non-christian!

  • It's understandable that you, as a non-Christian, have a problem with the ending. I've included the words with the Christian reference. Thanks again for commenting. Orphan Girl But when He calls me I will be able To meet my family at God's table I'll meet my mother my father My sister my brother No more orphan girl Blessed Savior make me willing And walk beside me until I'm with them Be my mother my father My sister my brother I am an orphan girl
  • Wonderful song and video - but why this christian ending? I feel left aside, as I am not christian!

  • If English isn't your first language, you may have missed the Christian references. It's a Christian song and you are welcome, indeed, to eat at God's table, through Jesus, the Savior, no longer an orphan girl. Neither the Savior or I intend for you to feel left aside. Thanks for commenting.

  • "For lo, I am with you always...even unto the end of time..."

Yes, He sure is, and our Holy Mother, too...

  • Beautiful song, great great job on the slide show.

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you for this wonderful video. Five***** ! Our Lord is our beloved Father, Brother and very best friend.

  • Yes, He is! : )

  • bean you get better, you r in the good way with this video,

    at 3.45 is it a pyramid ?

  • I believe the artist meant it as the entrance to heaven. Thanks for asking.

  • A great great song A great great video A great great God

  • Thanks! He is a great God, indeed! : )
