  • stupenda:=)

  • Bellissimo cast!!!Bravissimi!!

  • if chocolate mousse had a voice, it would sound like Anna Moffo

  • Unfortunately I do not appreciate the male voice.

  • Simply beautiful in every way.

  • What a soft an warm voice she had. I so love this clip!

  • She was brilliant not only in her singing but also as an actor.

  • @goblionacloud very moving testimony thanks for sharing

  • Just AMAZING... The best Traviata...

  • genial!

  • Wonderful voice, I love her.

  • Anna Moffo is really wonderfull and this aria absolutely heavenly. Something in her voice is so die for. I love her dress aswell. I am sending you opera kiss Dear Anna. You are so talented.

  • She has such wonderful color and texture in her voice. Beautiful!!!

  • Wow....so beautiful!!!

  • I really love her smoothness and dark tone that she has. In fact, I think I prefer it to Gheorghiu's, who has a tendency to sound a little shrill.

  • de casualidad no tendrán el dueto de Che fai?

  • omg, what a voice and technique!!!

  • When I was around 13 Ms Moffo picked me out of a choir and told me that she loved my voice. Throat cancer took my coloratura career away before I was 28 but I have never forgotten the beautiful women who came backstage to smile at a skinny kid and give encouragement to someone who never fit into a choir. A truly beautiful women inside and out. I never got to meet up with her again and tell her how much what she had done meant to me.

  • @goblinonacloud ..lovely story. I'm sure she knew you were grateful. Opera singers manage to change lives, truly they do, even to people they have never met. My first experience with opera was listening to recordings of Beverly Sills around 2001 & 2002. She died in 2007 & I never got to meet her in person or tell her about my love of opera because of her.

  • @goblinonacloud

Great story.......and I'm sorry for your loss.

  • @goblinonacloud thats beautiful (:

  • @goblinonacloud I admire you. I hope you are fine with your health now! Best greetings.

  • @goblinonacloud

For a moment i tought we sang in the same choir ( we are the same age), but it's impossible if you are a Canadian.

I was honored to sing with Anna moffo too, she was so beautiful, a real shining star and a lovely person.

  • @goblinonacloud Wow, that was a real honor! I'm so sorry to hear about your cancer.

  • Loved you, Anna. Rest in peace, my cousin.

  • Gyönyörűen alőadott részlet.

  • it was SUCH a lovely voice - her Songs of the Auvergne were wonderful

  • OH MY GOD!! WASH SHE CRYING!?

  • Most beautiful father for me was Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau in this role. He makes me cry.

  • My favourite Germont is Ettore Bastianini! I have him with Callas and Di Stefano, live at La Scala, 1955, conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini.

  • I have that recording and I agree!!!! did but did you hear the response that Stefano got during the second act when after he threw Violetta on the ground at Flora's party!? La Scala went crazy!!!!

  • Germon sings realy well but he is a poor actor. Anna is amazingly BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL AND SINGS MARVELOUSLY!!! I have no words to recommend the sincerity of her interpretation and and her beauty. And the voice has a very unique timbre, lyrical voice with a dark and warm timbre, something very rare.

  • C´est manifique

  • One of the greatest singers to ever live!!!!

    almost perfect in every performance!

    BRAVA!

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • EXCELLENT

  • Anna Moffo is just such a classic beauty... it's good to know us Americans have hope for the opera yet :) beautiful performance

  • Two incredible voices.

  • Beautiful. Absolutely stunning. This is exactly what I envision when I think of Violetta. Vocally, physically, emotionally... She is incredible.

  • Troooop nul ! J'aime pas !

  • Hi.. good film....

    I like that' film

jeje sorry I don't writter english

  • Mindblowing!

  • Ditto!

  • Beautiful simply beautiful!

  • Gives life meaning. Loved it.

  • bellissima bravo belle couleur de voix

  • bellissima

  • Anna Moffo and Gino Bechi great voices of the operas will live forever.

  • VIOLETTA

  • The old guy is pissing me off so much.... :<

  • I like him. Besides, he's Alfredo's father. Without him there wouldn't be any drama.

  • It looks like a movie by Luchino Visconti: it's beautiful! :)

  • Anna Moffo was the truest Violetta and this is a fine sample of her artistry; This is a great scene and Moffo looks exactly like Violetta should look and sings the way she ought to be sung! Viva la diva

  • The perfect Violeta.

    She had everything:artistry,voice,beauty,musicality.

    What a great artist!

  • Amazing, simple exquisite this is the last thig I want to hear before I die.

  • It's true...you might as well close your eyes with the way many operas are staged and produced. People try to be smart and "artsy" with a production by being a minimalist which always leads to a boring production visually.

  • Only the best singers can validate (and make us forget) a minimalist production, and that's almost never the case.

  • I watched a movie La Traviata when I was 13. I watched Anna Moffo in Traviata around 25 times. I fall in love in opera because of her acting, singing. I discovered the beauty, the depth of the music because of this movie. I discovered Verdi. Since then I love Opera and came to appreciate it. I wish young kids are exposed to the beauty of music more than the cheap movies on tv. I wish....

  • I finally understand the appeal of opera - it's visual after all. And Anna Moffo's acting (and singing) here is heartrending.

  • Yes, it is very visual. I have learned to appreciate it as a growing up...but I would not like it if I did not know the story. One ought to know what is going on.

  • Is it visual? I mean 1 aspect is visual, but the main aspect is musical. I like to learn the words because they inspired the notes. After the music, everything else is just gravy.

  • Yes, I believe so. But that does not mean that the visual is the most important. For me it is the complete whole who attracts me: the story, the plot, the music of course, both orchestra and singers. One must admit that in opera the singers are more than only singers, they also act as part of a story. It is fascinating.

  • The way operas are staged these days, you can throw that all in the toilet. You might as well close your eyes ;)

  • And why is that, do you believe?

  • haha because they turn violetta into a pirate and alfredo into a space astronaut monkey?

  • I have to say, I would pay to see THAT production.

  • I must say I really do not recognize the picture you are presenting. We must have really different perceptions then.

  • the auditory is always priority and the "essence" of opera. the visual and dramatic come after

  • Voix fantastique, physique fantastique. A redécouvrir !!!!

  • So this is when Alfredo's father convince Violetta to break up with Alfredo. Opera is drama. It is so beautiful.

  • She got tears in her eyes... So emotional and fabulous Voice...

  • so so la la ....

  • I just bought two of her better albums (on vinyl) that I don't think were ever released on Cd. I got the French Arias and the Verdi Arias. I'm going to convert them to mp3 and upload them hear. I just taught myself Windows Movie Maker (OMG, soooo easy) and I have beautiful pics of her.

  • Oh great! That's very kind of you to share them! Can't wait! :)

  • Well, I'm ready... sort of. So far, the one music conversion service that I've found is in New Jersey, so I'd have to send my albums to them. Surely, there must be someplace in Manhattan!

  • Great! I wanna hear them!

  • merci-thanks-spasibo!)

  • I see this and I cry every time. Anna Moffo is by far the only Violetta for me.

  • Divina!, que voz tan bella, Brava, es una de las mejores violettas.

    Brava!

  • Es preciosa Anna, y su voz tiene una coloratura tan especial...

    una excelente versión...

    Me enamoré :P:P

  • She was so exquisite, both physically and vocally. She, to me, is the perfect bel canto singer, because her coloratura was outstanding and her voice had a kind of pathos built into it. It was darker than a lot of coloraturas (such as Roberta Peters or Mady Mesple), and she could act. She was actually offered a Hollywood contract in her late teens or early 20s, which she turned down. She made some of the most perfect recordings ever. Rigoletto, Luisa Miller, Lucia, Traviata.

  • Beautiful...

  • Anna is absolutely the best!

  • When I sometimes play piano versions of Traviata areas, I invariably think of Anna Moffo. Especially in her heartwrenching "Addio del passato". I saw her at TV when opera's were still transmitted, i.c. in Eurovison events. Because she was so beautifull to look at, some people said her singing was inferior to sopranos less favoured where looks concerned. Completely unfair, because her voice carried a dramatic tone! I may have the LP from this film still...

  • The emotion from Moffo in this piece is heart wrenching. Though I don't care for this baritone (far too stiff) Moffo just kills me in this. She was the best Violetta!

  • weno

  • This is the best version ever! Anna Moffo sings it with such passion. Bechi as well. This is from "Anna Moffo a Tribute", but from which "La Traviata" film?

  • Look it up at Amazon, or some other seller site. The DVD is available.

  • and who is this man? he sings this aria perfectly, as moffo, best version I've ever heard

  • The baritone is Gino Bechi. A veteran who also worked with Maria Callas.

  • A veteran, Elizabetta? I thought he was a lawyer by training and never treated animals :-), But seriously, he was more than that. He was a great baritone, who even in his 50s sounds better than Bruson ever did in his prime.

  • I said veteran, not veterinarian. A veteran is someone who's been in his profession for a very long time. :)

  • My mistake, sorry:-)

  • OMG, I had no Idea there was such a great Violetta...thanks for the post...I found the Triviata DVD on Amazon...its mine now...thanks

  • Anna Moffo is an expert in register control, soft, silky and very pictorial.

  • Wonderful!! Who got the Idea of comparing her to anna netrebko!!! "Vainmusic" Could you please post the "Alfredo ,alfredo in questo core" From this film!! Perfection!!

  • I saw this film on TV in the 70's and it was in black and white, did they color it for DVD release?

I actually prefer Moffos to any other Violetta, including Stratas in the superb 1982 Zefirelli film.

If you count the total package of voice, acting, diction, temperament and of course looks, Anna Moffo was truly one of the most likeable sopranos of all time. How can anyone not watch this LA TRAVIATA and not fall in love with her Violetta?

  • i love joan sutherland and maria callas but Moffo is one of my favorites sopranos because of her unique performances her technique and her sweet delicate and beautiful voice

  • one of the best vids on youtube

  • Her voice is out of a beautiful dream.

  • Always the most moving moment in La Traviata. Moffo is very fine; too bad the Germont is so woolly of voice and wooden in his deportment.

  • 2個高手的聲音深觸我心...

  • Heartrending performance

  • Heartrending performance!

  • Moffo gives a beautiful, touching performance here. Her voice sounds plush, colorful, and feminine.

  • Anna always reminds me of an improved version of Callas, both in appearance as vocally. Her voice sounds a bit like Callas', but it's more polished. Her face is a bit Callas-like as well, but sweeter and prettier.

  • Moffo is not "an improved version" of Callas. They sound nothing alike, and they really don't look alike either. Also interpretively they are soo different.

  • Not everyone can hear exactly the same thing, and the resemblance with Callas' voice was what I heard when I heard Anna sing Addio del Passato for the first time. Moffo and Callas didn't look alike in moving pictures, but I'd say that in their best still pictures there are truly some resemblances.

  • Bellissima!!!

  • Charming! I love this song! Thanks :)

  • I have been a Callas fan forever but I have to admit she never sounded like that!

  • She was a goddess! The best Violetta after Callas!

  • They are both very good vocaly in this duetto, a quality production, and the acting... very mooving!
