  • I got advanced technical field intel specialist! :D

  • If only people knew... lol that I will make a career out of making power points and steeling Crypto techs work and claiming it to be something I produced.

  • I had a choice between CT or IS at MEPS but i chose IS and leave in september for basic

  • @Vhootie1 ... I leave in September, too! I am also signed up as an IS. I wish I could have gone CT Linguist, but its all good. If we don't see each other at bootcamp, then we will eventually meet at A and C school in VA.

  • @JinLian1237 I leave september 7th for IS

  • i signed as an undessignated airman because there were no jobs available. i scored 79 on the asvab and was told i qualified for almost all jobs except nuke. i wanna know if i can request a new rate in boot camp and what my possibilities are of getting into intel spec. Somebody know??

  • Chuck Norris can unscramble an egg

  • Im gonna be on active duty for Advanced Technical Field Intelligence Specialist! Woohoo!

  • I'm signed for IS. I've got an in for IS ground. All I have to do is qualify. Time to hunt and interrogate Haji's.

  • Went to MEPS today, and when I found out that I was qualified for this position, became

super excited. This has been my dream ever since I was a little girl. They've put me on the waiting list, now it's just a matter of time.

  • IS SCHOOL is at Damneck VA. Have fun at the Shifting Sands NCO club. Go to the north side of the base and check out DevGru compound

  • I chose IS for my rating and leave next month for boot. The commander at MEPs recommended I go for the linguistics side of an IS.

Is this more rewarding then other forms of the job?

  • air force intel and navy intel need to stop harassing eachother

  • OMG its the arbiter !

  • While some of his work is sensitive, his general job description isn't, so he doesn't have to keep his job secret from the neighbors. But GO NAVY anyway!!

  • I am about to join the navy and have a question. Intelligence specialist is what I wanna do in the Navy. I am pretty confident I will get a high enough asvab score to be eligible, but is there times when the Navy doesn't offer it? If the Detailer says, you qualify for any job in the Navy, but you can only chose from this list here cause its all they have openings for. Thanks in advance.

  • That's possible. Be persistent though.

  • you have to go through the schooling, thats pretty much promised...I personally am going in to the NAVY to become a SEAL, they lack a lot of people with the will power to make it through the training...so they pretty much leave it wide open...but you gotta make it through the training which is the toughest in the world

  • @fireball676 Yeah fireball I'm going for either SEALs or SWCC once I join, but I am going to try and go in as an IS or something in the intelligence field before going for special forces. I've talked to a lot of guys in the Navy including my father who said it's ok to go for the SEALs right off the bat, but most would recommend to establish a job first, THEN go for SEALs once ur in. You can try out for the SEALs pretty much anything once you're in the Navy, regardless of ur job.

  • @Sphereshock yea, ive looked at naval intelligence, but im in college right now, and it would require me to go for 3+ months right off the bat, i might miss my first semester of next year. I cant do that. Another thing is that there are criteria that you have to meet for the navy to pay your tuition. Basically i dont think its possible to get all of this done. Im going to do SEALs for sure. But the other stuff is going to take time.

  • Being an IS is awesome. Loving it.

  • i was put in iS..i leave in Sept!! so nervous about bootcamp...

  • THE FIRST TWO WEEKS(P-dAYS) ARE THE HARDEST, ONLY CAUSE U GET HOMESICK. BY THE END YOU'LL BE THINKING IT WAS EASY. I WAS THE NAVY FROM 97-01

  • =\ i was eligible for the IS rating from the asvab, but because my parents weren't citizens (i am), i wasn't allowed to join because of top secret clearance.

now i'm a MC. i'm happy, but i wish i was an IS.

  • Lets do a TV show on this...

  • Forget IS, go CT.

  • what is CT? sorry for the dumb question

  • cryptologic technician, u deal with raw intelligence.

  • k thanks.

  • what do a INTELLIGENCE SPECIALIST do?

  • Well, For one, you have to be Intelligent, so I don't think you would have to worry about what they do.

  • from what i understand, the IS decodes messages in other languages or that are encrypted; they dictate or read photographs of enemy targets, etc. you basically gather intel and decipher it; perform investigations, etc.

  • So after the navy or as a reservist, what kind of degrees would work nicely with this kind of work experience?

Either a major in Info Science, Computer Science, or MIS mixed with a minor of business management?

  • or join the coast guard

  • The navy is probably THE safest and most secure branch of the military to be in. Yes there are the seals, subs and whatnot, but just in general.

  • I was an IS from 1986 to 1991, did some National Guard doing Intel too. There is no jobs with out a degree doing Intel work. I work with budgets for the Army and the basic analytical skill are still required so the job is not completely bad just that you need school.

The video leads you to believe this guy is doing some mysterious job like saving the world, the guys old job as a yellow shirter is something to be proud of. I worked in a squadron on a aircraft carrier got to see the world.

  • I was in Naval Intellegence from 1985 to 1989....served in the middle east...one thing that I know for sure.... is that Naval Intellegence will NOT prepare you for a future career in the FBI or Secret Service. It has no pull whatsoever in getting a job in any of the "Black Ops" career categeories.

  • He's right, go CT.

  • i just enlisted 2 days ago and im on DEP for 9 months until Aug. 10. I got IS as my rate plus a 7k enlistment bonus. Im pretty stoked bc it comes with a top secret clearance that carries over into civilin life so i can do something like cia or fbi

  • Same, I go to Great Lakes in Jan. Got my IS rating as well. Pretty eager to get going.

  • Uh, no. To get into the FBI, you need a degree in electrical engineering, information technology or accounting. I'm not kidding, that's what they look for. Very few enlisted jobs carry over to their civilian counterparts. Bottom line: Don't believe everything the recruiter tells you. You need a college degree to get a lucrative job after the service. Military training equals squat unless you have certifications.

  • Yes ,that is very true. I was a machinist mate, and all my training was in vain. cause I'm a sales man right now.

  • Yea, I was an aviation electronics technician. Have hundreds of hours of aircraft maintenance experience. But, apparently I need a 4 year degree in aviation electronics technology and an FAA certification to work on civilian airplanes. Yay. I'm an EMT now though.

  • What does a Navy Intelligence Specialist do?

  • Interpret information to pass on to their superiors. Military intellegence, such as size of enemy forces, loxcation, making out important strategic points, etc.

  • After nrotc i am thinking of going intelligence but at the same time i still want to be a naval aviator....

maybe after flying i can change my rate...

  • I don't think you can be an Intelligence Officer by NROTC. You can only be an Unrestricted Line Officer (Surface Warfare Officer, Submarine Officer, Naval Aviator, Naval Flight Officer, Naval Special Operation Specialist, etc.), which unfortunately does not include Intelligence.

  • I meant after i fulfill my nrotc service requirement.

  • Hey, you have no idea! None of you, the IS rate is not your typical idiots job, its a very respectable job that takes time to learn! You people have no idea!

  • LMAO. a kid in my unit said he wanted to do Marine Intelligence, and we all said the same.

  • im a road sweeper, and im proud with my work

  • im a warrock vetern

  • Can't have all chiefs and no indians, im a recent enlisted U.S. Marine, I plan on eventually being an officer, and it really doesn't make sense to me to "recruit" officers who have a role to command people when they've never been in their shoes. Plus theres a lot more roles as enlisted as there are in officer.
