I assure you it is quite usual to see a lot of snow in june in the Sierra's. I've backpacked up there in June (to beat the kids still in school) for many years and rarely have I seen a trip without plenty of snow. One trip, my brother and I were snowbound in a 2-man tent for four days - luckily, we get along. I've seen 8 feet of snow as low as 8000 feet (elvation) in the second week of June. Snowshoes are a must.
@Nameless41000 this is hardly unusual in california, i've seen it happen 3 times in the last decade.there were actually chains required in may on hwy 50 and int 80 over the summit.
the video was added on the 4th of may 2007, i take it that it was a video you had laying around from june the year previous as on my calander may comes before june?? hmmm?
@shackashackado Think! Globwal warmin is meaning more snow and rain. You know that warm air contain more humid. You understand? Not this 0,5 C you feel. Thats not the clue.
i've been over tioga pass in august before in a blizzard where they had to close the road. it can snow ANY time of the year at that elevation. i remember one year, they had over 1000 inches of snow in a 12 month period.
That snowblower is small comapred to the Wausau WI snow removal crews snowblower, theirs is 6' tall 6' wide 3 augers tall, and can load a standard truck in 30 seconds!
i was there in june, 20 feet of snow where they closed the road. There was still a 1000 foot climb to the top. First time I ever played in the snow in June
I was there in mid September that year. There was still quite a bit of snow left in some areas. I doubt it all melted away before winter. They always get loads of snow up there, but the winter 05/06 was mad.
oft, dragging up an old comment - not sure what your getting at, all i mentioned was throwing the snow uphill didn't have much logic, unless you can tell me otherwise - what I try to imply was by throwing the snow uphill this increases the likelihood of drifts. And so to answer your question - i think.... throw the snow downhill or take away off site.
Cool vid. Call me ignorant (I live in Australia, it's the driest inhabited continent in the world!) but won't all that snow being spectacularly blasted up the slope just shift back onto the road?
Man looks at nature and says 'Fuck you. I am the king of this castle.'

State Highway 88 over Carson Pass in the Central Sierras looks like that this spring.
Hwy. 88 is supposedly an "all weather" "all-year" mountain highway but this year the Caltrans snow plows simply couldn't keep up.

not with a snow blower, it compacts the snow, so it wouldn't slide.
