Since you live in an urban area, your electricity is transmitted to you through transmission wires. The earth serves as a ground (or return wire) to the transmission station. You may just be picking up stray electricty.
I invented a breakthrough source of energy, which contradicts the law of conservation of energy. I have a PROOF that there are electrodynamic phenomena which contradict the law of energy conservation. It will cost about $1200 to make a 6 kW generator in mass production. Value of the energy produced yearly about $5400. I am looking for $300 000 for a prototype and for $3M for patents.
You could have saved your self a lot of time by just hooking the solar panel to the high voltage capacitor. No free energy here. All the wiring was impressive but in the end your power was all coming from the solar panel. Is that what you were trying to show us? We all know that you can get power from solar panels.
@Texmurphy51 ------Actually alot has happened since I did this experiment. This didn't really prove anything. It was just an observation of how a direct link to an "earth" ground can be used in a circuit. I am now studying earth batteries that were used during the days of telegraph.
@Lidmotor Earth batteres are just batteries. They work by deteriation of whatever metal you put into the ground. You bury say zinc & copper, you get a small trickle of electricity while the metals get eaten away. Its not free energy.
@Texmurphy51 ------That is what I thought until I started researching them. I thought that they were just slow reacting galvanic batteries. Most are. Some are very strange though and are worth a look. I never said anything about "free energy". The materials to make them and the time to build them are not free. The energy that they produce is not cost effective either. It is just an interesting study.
@Lidmotor Ok, I believe most are a version of the Lemon battery so popular with school students. If you look at the works of people like Thomas Edison he had his team of people in Menlo Park try just about every combination of battery possible with materials of the time when he made his electric car.
@Lidmotor Ground energy goes far beyond electrochemical reactions or anything known. This lost art was known somewhat in early 1900's. They were getting massive power, even powering entire stations. It matches Orgone energy properties. The power builds up very slowly over time. After it builds up, it's extremely easy to disturb. The art is in tuning and finding *undisturbed* good ground.
Lid, This experiment and the comments here make me wonder if it's possible to pulse or oscillate a HV field into piezoelectric crystals in order to set them off consistently, a non-rotary motor, a solid state generator....
I was playing with this experiment today, with a coil off a lawn mower. But what happened as I was playing I have not seen in any of the forums or videos. I am or was working on my desk that I use for my computer. The lite or lazer on my mouse went out and I thought that I had fried my mouse with HV. Not so unplugging and replugging the mouse it worked. back to playing mouse went out again this tie was farther away and still went out, but If I greated a spark gap the mouse would lite up? idea?
wwdotme--- Be really careful with your expensive electronics when you are working with an ignition coil.. We found out that it transmits and can interfer or stop sensitive equipment. My video camera will lock up if I get it too close the HV.
@Eddiev1985 Dude, this experiment is utter bullshit, it proves nothing except for the fact that you need proper grounding to make this circuit work..... Sorry, No mystical "earth energy" present at all.... Just proper grounding the way electricians have been wiring the world for over 100 years now,,,,,, Get with the program.
Ha! Ha! This whole investigation should be called "Secrets of Stray Capacitance Revealed."
I made some comments elsewhere and you probably read them so I am going to elaborate a bit.
You noticed that I pointed out to you that a coil in parallel with a capacitor forms an LC resonator? Guess where your singing self-oscillating circuits are coming from?
They are coming from the main coil in parallel with the stray capacitance in the circuit, and the transistor amplifies the oscillation.
So what is "stray capacitance?" Since a cap is nothing more than two plates of metal with a separation between them, that concept applies to anything just about anywhere in a circuit. Two wires running next to each other exhibit stray capacitance. When you look at any circuit you build, you can imagine that there are multiple tiny tiny 'stray' capacitors between components and between components and ground. Normally they have no effect, they are so small.. except for the one near the coil.
You are probably aware that capacitors conduct AC and block DC. So when you have one terminal of your CFL connected to ingition coil, and the ignition coil voltage is at a high-voltage, high frequency potential, then the other terminal of the CFL with complete the circuit by connecting to just about anything and light up the coil.
You probably saw that clip where four CFLs are sitting on a table and all four are glowing. There is stray capacitance between each CFL and the table.
There is stray capacitance between each CFL and the table. Therefore you have a viable AC circuit for lighting up the CFLs: Ignition coil -> CFL -> "Imaginary" stray cap -> Ground.
When you touch the CFL with your hands, you are increasing the stray capacitance, which allows more AC current to flow though the CFL, and so the CFL glows brighter. This whole effect depends on the high freq AC.
Sorry to Mr. Bodkins, but it has nothing to do with the energy coming from the ground.
I think that there is a big hint in all of this. Since the CFL can sometimes glow quite brightly on HVAC + stray capacitance alone, this implies that you can get a quite nice bright glow from the CFL at very very low power.
As you know, I suggested considering gaining full control over the power going through the CFL by controlling the pulse repetition rate and the pulse width.
Woops! I should also have added the AC voltage across the CFL as part of the recipe for controlling the AC power going through the CFL.
However, typically these setups run off a battery at fixed voltage, connected to an ignition coil of with a fixed turn ratio. Therefore you won't normally play with the voltage.
For AC circuits, designers are interested in knowing how they respond to a pure sine wave 'excitation' from zero Hz (DC) to 'infinity' Hz, to get the 'frequency domain' response.
This whole investigation should be called : "How to light a CFL with a 2 watt solar panel puting out 60 miliamps on a less than bright sunny day." LOL
I have been thinking about the "word circuit" that you presented. I think that it will work. At least what I understand of it. A 555 timer and a few other correct parts firing the ignition coil can get this job done easier and maybe with a little less pie eaten. lol
In case you haven't searched there are hundreds of links to 555 timer circuits. To wax poetic for a second, isn't it amazing that you can do that? In my time you could get really cool 'application notes' books from the semiconductor manufacturers by moving your body from point A to point B and back. Pages and pages of standard circuits in convenient book form. Hmmm.. that sound's pretty good huh? lol
The oscillator and the monostable multivibrator are the simplest 555 circuits.

Hey Lid,
Very cool!!
Bodkins looks to be correct.
I know Drevtoobe would disagree, but everyone has a right to an opinion.
Fantastic experiment!
I believe the earth is an untapped resource of energy, this is just the tip of the iceburg.
Great job! Way Cool!
No matter who is right, at the end of the day it is still free energy!
Keep it up my friend.
