You really don't get what's going on here, do you...
That happens to be a test of the LAS, the emergency rocket motor tower thing that pulls the guys in the spacecraft away from the rocket in case some sort of explosion or something happens...
The lack of such a system on the Shuttle caused the death of 7 astronauts on STS-51-L. It's not ridiculous, it's safe.
Ares and Orion are The Emperor's New Clothes, (complementing something as new that is actually old, and is therefore deception of the population and the equivalent of public nudity).
I would scrap the whole ares project. For moon missions I would launch a Falcon9 "Heavy" for Earth Departure stage. Use a Falcon9 for the LSAM and Falcon9 for the Crew Vehicle. We are probably looking at about 1 billion in savings per lunar mission.
The EDS weighs about 170 metric tons, Orion about 22 mT, and the LSAM about 35 mT.
You are implying that the EDS would weigh 30 mT, and the Orion and LSAM 10 mT each...
That is completely impossible. While engineering a 10 ton CEV and 10 ton lander could be/has already been done, 25 or so metric tons of LOX/LH2 could only barely send the stack to the moon... And then where is the propellant for LOI and TEI? The 10 ton mass of the CEV and LSAM couldn't possibly include that.
@crewportal1 yeah, except they arent designed for the gear for orion and constellation, your idea won't work. anyways, Falcon 9 isn't yet powerful enough.
astonrickenbach wrote to me that a relative flew the plane that is said to have hit the pentagon. My comment was that look at the DVD video "9/11 in plain site" and then make a comment. obviouslly "astonrickenbach". Learn something and then make a comment.
If you beleive that this is Americas attempt to go back to the moon your an idiot. How much is this replay of apollo going to cost?Everybody knows now that regular missions of anti-gravity ships from earth go the the moon and beyond. This deception of the American public has to stop NOW.
4:33 Look at this rocket. It looks like it have side platform for nuclear propeller. I thought that ridiculous idea was thrown away many ears ago?

the non-covert u.s.space force must occupy the moon before the evil red chinese communists set up nuclear missile bases there!

I am used to see the plane like space craft, like the shuttle... It will be a major change.

No kiddin, Im in the same position here, but it will be cool to go back to the design that the Apollo missions used

The shuttle never worked out very well. We probably should have dropped it 10 years ago.
This looks like a great mission: but the destination (moon), while interesting, should not be our primary target for 2020...
