  • Great movie. You people need to do your homework politically though..............

  • SO AWESOME!! Thank You for posting!

  • The "Bush" Recession?? Seriously? Sure....and we's prospering now, ain't we?

  • 'Okies' had it worse than share croppers and minority migrant workers!

Like now, if you are in need of work it's your fault - ( so says Herman Cain or Abel)

I have done field work for the patron (boss), - it is tough as hell - get home and everbody nods off!

  • JUST WHAT I'm thinking!

Subsitute Okies for Mex immigrant, Great Recession for Depression, wild climatic change for dust bowl, and that eras conservatives, with todays tea baggers, and have a good match up with just that alone!

  • yes.... somehow I just watched this film for the first time and it shocks me how much the world has not changed and everyone and everything is treated as an 'idle asset' to be used by business to make money. Nothing has changed in our great 'western culture', we still need slaves to pick our peaches.

  • "During the Depression, Oklahoman's, also called "Okies" were essentially the Mexicans of their day, considered job steelers at best and sub-humans at worst were being constantly harassed by locals and especially the police..."

    Great Video clip!!

  • @oregelfilms True!

If only my people had command of the 'race card' like some others.

Field work is hard as Sh.t ! I've done that work so I should know.

  • Take off the blinders folks. We are living in a Third World country -the U.S.A. which was caused by George Bush/Dick Cheney et al.

  • Tom was not a " hot head" this was exampling how the law doesnt work when a man stands up for truel principles'

  • I also read the "Grapes of Wrath" and like you, during this Great Recession, have revisited the book. I'm positive there are many others who are feeling the same sentiments which you have so brilliantly expressed in this video. Thank you and I will share.

  • @msblkwidow This movie is all about the despotism of corportate structures using the government to take over this country' greed'

  • Excellent work here. Thanks for posting!

  • My grandmother used to say that people who use foul language do so because they have a lack of vocabulary to express themselves with--thus making them frustrated and angry people who end up bullying others.

Unfortunately this is what I'm seeing here. *sigh* Yes, I still am showing you all to others as an example of how hatred eats out peoples' hearts and souls, and you are being held up as a great example of what a human being should never become.

  • I'm absolutely floored by all the racist remarks--all by ignorant, hateful people who are exact examples of what I never want to become. Please keep posting your foul language, hate and shame, because it is a great lesson for us all.

  • @hashachar70 And up your as well numbnuts.

  • @vipermopar1 You're an unconvincing troll.

  • Thank You, Jonathan Kim for your astute, precise and vital insight. Thank You for posting this labor of love for all of us to appreciate and learn from.

  • Here's the deal, you little fish-eyed punk, leave something as real and sad as AMERICAN the Great Depression ALONE, because while this movie premiered, your ancestors, like it or not, were planning the Pearl Harbour attack, the most chickensh*t act in the history of mankind. So go back to YOUR ancestory, research the cowardace, review THAT, and leave ours alone, and choke on your sushi, you little twerp.

  • @vipermopar1 silly hillbilly. First off Kim sounds like a Chinese name, and they didn't bomb pearl harbor, but I don't expect a hillbilly to be able to tell the difference between anyone who wasn't born in whatever trailer park you live in. Secondly hes commenting on the reasons for the Great Depression, which you morons wont admit to being entirely staged by the corporate interests and the rich. Whats your heritage? German? Irish? Does it matter where your grand parrents are from?

  • @Domonkoss I don't need a dialect lesson from a moron like yourself. Chink, Jap, Fishead, Slanteye, Gook, I don't care what you call them. It is what it is. Your cute little trailer park remark is old. Get some new material. I agree with the reasons on the Great Depression as far as cause. If onongo ran the race and won to "fix" things, why don't you hold him accountable instead of blaming everything including the Cruciixion on his predecessor. He knew what he was getting.O, lastly, FU.

  • this is a book that gives an example of a family struggling for work and trying to stand on there own to feet. Those are people that we as a country need to protect and try and help, but you dont do that by giving them everything. You do that by creating a world where a man can put in a honest day work and get an honest days pay. if the goverment simply provides for every thing that the poor need then there will be alot of people that dont see a point in getting a job. thats my opinion.

  • I like your review, but I agree with many of your other viewers that labeling conservatives as "teabaggers" is just the type of comment that liberals dislike their opponents making. It's derogatory, and even worse--intellectually unsustainable. The problem is indeed the corporations and bankers, but the Obama administration is full of former (?) Wall St. minions, making this government a perfect illustration of Mussolini's definition of Fascism--the merging of the state and corporations.

  • @LebowskisBig The tea party adopted the monicker themselves, the idea that it was an insult from the left is retconning.

  • @agnosticnixie It's not Tea Party that I have a problem with but rather Teabaggers/Teabagging. Can you discern the difference?

  • @LebowskisBig Yes, the problem is that they picked teabagging themselves, that's what I meant; they were the ones going on about how they wanted to "teabag Obama" and calling themselves teabaggers, perfectly oblivious to the slang meaning of it. The it became a huge joke in the media and they retconned it into an insult evil commies threw at them.

  • @agnosticnixie As to the verisimilitude of your information, I can only guess, as I live overseas. But from here, the Tea Party started as a response to the message Ron Paul was (and still is) spreading, which is music to my ears. I know that the movement has been co-opted by the mainstream Republicans, so it's not what it used to be. But still, name-calling is adolescent, at best.

  • 22 BANKERS

  • Excellent analogy about "the unwanted, job takers" of today! Brilliant Commentary !

  • Yes, if there's one thing I hate, it's a Teabagger!

  • I saw yesterday and thought the same thing.

  • You've hit the nail on the head~ThXs for this EXCEllent vid! Twittered...

  • Total Crap! I can't listen to this commie sympathizer.

  • @markstarr66 FUCK OFF!!!

  • Oh so tell us, you chi-com pos, what has your pharaoh obama done to make it better for the working class? jack..8.9% unemployment.lol!...why dont you take your victim class warfare and your foodstamp slave owning socialist punkass back to where ever it is that you came from, cause you aint from around here, do you?

  • @markstarr66 lol! now we have 9.2 % unemployment, thank you oh great socialist boy king... the problem with you commie punks is you eventually run out of other peoples money...

  • @markstarr66 The problem with you idiots is that the shit where your brain is tends to follow gravity and roll out of your mouth and stain my pristine, intelligent air with that useless brown goo you call "Is me opinion I learns it on da internets."

  • @eirefrance listen to you , you commie faggot. go cash your welfare check you fuckin leach....

  • @markstarr66 you mean like us running out of China's money? Or maybe Wall Street running out of the governments money? Capitalism uses other peoples money RELIGIOUSLY. SO get off it, our "Socialist" president has barely passed a handful of laws. unemployment has been on the rise for the past 20 years. You need to stop watching Glen Beck and jerking off to Atlas Shrugged and realize that no world can run on the pure selfishness of a few people.

  • @markstarr66 Hey, here's a thought, shit for brains: why don't you actually pay attention to what policies Obama has passed. Reagan was a bigger socialist than him. Being an idiot is no excuse to offend me with your idiocy.

  • bellissimo film

  • bel film

  • We don't have capitalism in this country. We have socialism for the rich. Notice how everything traces back to unseen, unknown owners of the banks. Then as now.

  • This video is a political brain washing tool used by socalists disguised as a movie review. NICE TRY !!

  • @cst20396 perfectly said

  • Thank You for making this video

  • To All viewers of this video; >>> I like this video for its way of showing of truths and as well as warnings can be found in the movies. However I must disagree with the statement that said lack of corporate regulation caused the depression and the currrent economic mess. I would suggest reading the book called The Creature from Jekyll Island : A Second Look at the Federal Reserve authored by G. Edward Griffin. Explains in proven histocial whats really happening.

  • Jonathan, you nailed it. Very accurate assessment and a mighty good narration.

  • Terrible review. You are comparing wealthy farm owners to companies like BP.

    Stop being a company ball-washer.

  • The unions are the reason we lost the auto industry , chinaman.

The country needs rich people , ever think of that? Next time you want a job , ask a poor person for a job.

You libs crack me up. Ever tjhink what algore would have done if he were elected?

  • @OrrBobby4 Yes and rich people need working class people too, ever think of that?

  • Excellent Review Jonathan

  • @KingConservative technically they were they didnt give the money to the ppl who needed it most and so forth so ya learn history man they may not have caused it but they sure as hell couldve help ppl instead of being assholes and not help now they cant be blamed but during the late 1920s to the early 1930s they were

  • I love how these insane tea-baggers nad the republinuts drove this country to the very edge of a real depression and then they blame obabme for not stopping the bleeding they caused fast enough. Christ, what fuckin' fools.

  • Why the hell does this guy need to compare the film to the quote BUSH recession and not just the American rescession.......Vote Mitt Romney 2012

  • Awesome review. Teabaggers are dupes.

  • Your comments reveal you as a poor uneducated dude. Older people died in the trek and they would have died at home (remember that longevity wasn't then what it is now).We don't need new health care. OBAMA has skirted the real job of fixing the economy and has spent his time experimenting around with "health care" . What a doofus Obama is, and what a doofus supporter you have become. The first depression came about because of the lack of funds (M1).

  • Teabagger,, fuck you chink like that? asshole someday one of you assholes is going to say that to my face.

  • Teabagger,, fuck you chink like that? asshole

  • People only remember the bad things that happened in politics and for that matter everything. We always remember the bad stuff because we can learn from it, but we never do. All that we do is use those bad memories to complain and complain, and never actually do something about it. Also why dose anyone care if Obama is worse than Carter. I don't see you going up there and giving it a try. Stop living in the past and think about the future, if we don't start doing that we will have no future...

  • People only remember the bad things that happeend in polotics and for that matter everything. We always remember the bad stuff because we can learn from it, but we never do. All that we do is use those bad memories to complain and complain, and never actually do something about it. Also why dose anyone care if Obama is worse then Carter. I dont see you going up there and giving it a try. Stop living in the past and think about the future, if we don't start doing that we will have no future...

  • Fear is a powerful tool and the unelected NWO corporatocracy uses it all too often without hesitation to get what they want out of todays easily conditioned masses.

  • The Grapes of Wrath is why Republicans(i.e. anti-American, inbred dipshits) hate reading and education.

  • Maybe Mr Kim overdid it with regards to healthcare...grampa died knowing he was going to die because of old age...that's all (Steinbeck says it in the book).

  • Obama is now responsible for the worst long term economic numbers since the Great Depression. He is now worse than Jimmy Carter and that's a tough gig to beat.

  • @TTURedRaidr And I will give you this, there was a point early on in his presidency where things were going well, the unemployment rate even dropped around 2%. However his tax cut (the largest in US history) led from the national deficit rising literally 100% to 11.3 trillion. Just as he left office he had been dealing with simuli packages to desperatley change the course of the falling economy. When he came into office unemployment rate: 4.2% when he left: 7.2%

  • @TTURedRaidr you are incorrect, sir.. Grossly incorrect.. Have you been in cryogenic freeze for the last 9 years? WHo started 2 idiotic wars that has sost our country billions and billions of dollars.. it surely wasn't Obama.. and if memory serves I dont think Carter started any wars either.. I think you may need to rethink and look back at the morons Reagan and the Wonder Bush years to find out where all this mess started,, have a great day! xo

  • The "Bush recession"? ROFLMAO! You mean the "Pelosi recession". Open your eyes quickly people and you'll soon realized the Democrats in the House of Representative aided & abetted the downfall of the economy during their years of feeding Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac. That is the history, so stop trying to re-write it.

  • Ford's film is a powerful depiction of poverty, but the government-as-savior portion at the end is pure fantasy. Even if you believe government policies eventually won the day, the policies here are typical divorced-from-reality leftism. The government facility the Joads coast into have endless room, even while every other farm is choked with too many workers. The other farms have to hire teams to deal with the crowds; ONE government man with a pipe has all the time in the world to process all.

  • Comment removed

  • The instant I heard you mention "Bush's recession", I realized that you are as ignorant as you are bigoted. Therefore, I relegated your opinions to the realm of "completely unimportant things". Try to discover just who it is that spends the money in our government.

  • Kim, you want more government you got it now with Obama. How's that working out for everybody? How's Greece today? How's the Democrat Utopia of Social Working Freebies for All? How does that sustain itself? Ask the people in Greece who have been as brainwashed and FOOLED...promised every working person's dollar for their own UTOPIA. It doesn't work. Jonathan Kim, you might want to take a close look at what is going on in the world...because it will be coming soon to a home near you.

  • Bush Recession? Seriously, Plenty of Democrats participated in the events and legislation that led to the recession. Your ideas are good, but your jabs at Bush make you sound un-informed as you try to simplify the issue by blamming it on one person. Calling the Tea Party idiots makes you sound like a whiner.. Be more objective and you will find that more people will take you seriously.

  • I'd take the Bush Recession any day over this Obama Depression!!!

  • Sweatintotheoldies.....YER A FUCKING MORON. IT'S A BUSH RECESSION/DEPRESSION AND AN OBAMA RECOVERY. GO FUCK YOURSELF.

AND FUCK THE REST OF YOU MORONIC REVISIONIST REPUBLICAN COCKSUCKERS. YOU'D LOVE TO CHANGE HISTORY BUT THE TRUTH IS THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH IS THAT YOU SUCK AND ARE A LYING SACK OF SHIT.

  • @TeenCretin a "teen" are you- you don't know your ass from a whole in the ground and fantasize that Obama's your daddy. Well he isn't, because he's gay.

This Usurper we have for a president is on the fast track to ruining this country. He's a card carrying Commie who has it in for America. No wonder 80% of Americans don't trust this Govt.!!!! Hah, you'll be crying the loudest when ObamalamaDingDong takes over the Internet and takes away all the freedoms you've obviously taken for granted!

  • @sweatintotheoldies @sweatintotheoldies Any move right now is going to tank the economy even more in the long run. this started in the miserable 8 years that Bush was in office. He preferred the trickle down method often put in place by republicans- give to the wealthy and it will reach the middle class. It didnt work. I am not saying I love what Obama has done so far. On the other hand it doesnt matter who would have inherrited that mess, people are going to blame it on them.

  • @h20incinerat "Miserable 8 years of the Bush Administration?" ROFLMAO again! The Bush tax cuts spurred 52 months of record economic growth and companies literally could not find people to employ! Only in your own mind was 8 years of President Bush bad. I loved it! Obama's trickle up poverty is working out real well, now isn't it? Unbelievable. Why don't you move to Europe?

  • Thank You.

It's nice to see younger people catching on to all the BS we've been fed since the "Reagan Revolution".

I guess I'm one of those "younger people"- having not quite reached 50 yet.

But I was raised on stories of The Depression and I know my folks would not have made it without the New Deal.

This movie (and book) dramatizes the conditions that led to the "Government stepping in."

And the "Tea Party" folks just better learn which side their bread is buttered on.

  • @kenrfc the Tea Party folks are workers. The only one's who want this crap he's trying to shove on America, are the one's who want to be on the RECEIVING END, you idiot. Bigger govt. means less freedom! Grow up and learn something about the way govt works, how it helps and how that very "help" can also hurt you.!

  • @kenrfc You might reach 50, but it's going to be pretty uncomfortable. Are you really that unhinged to the common sense of this world? I have to try to understand people that think like you....because I wonder if you are just reactionary...or if you really do look at any economics. You really don't have to look farther than Greece, and the European Union today. You see Greece...a country populated by more public sector union jobs which can in no way ever pay what they promise.

  • @pfizzbones If you do want a lesson in history, it's right here...and you will see the results soon. We have no money as a country, no way to pay all of these public sector employees what we've promised. By the way, that money is taxpayer money....did we have a say in that? If we survive as a country, it will be by CUTTING PUBLIC SECTOR JOBS, and PROMISES THEY HAVE MADE. The free ride is over. We are so far in debt, that even the right moves made to correct it are going to hurt.

  • how the fuck is it happing today your dumb, its not true. then it was a market problems, todays it banks. and they not lieng to people. people are the one who sign up for it, then people were fooled

  • hey stienbeck was a leftwing loon..as you call it..it seems people that care about the workin man are loons...now those tea party people those people are loons..

  • I've been waiting for someone to see this movie, or re see it for that matter, and look at just how relevant it is to present day with the Bush recession. Well said my friend, well said. especially this being my 3rd favorite movie of all time

  • Whats wrong with chinks? I'm an Irish bug bastard and I dont care if someone calls me that. If I am I am. Fuck it man.

  • I have to wonder what commentary this chinese guy might have with regards to his own people and the suffering that many of them go through under their own regime. Nothing at all I'm sure. Or maybe he might be a decendent of the socialists from over there, which may explain his strong tendencies to try to paint communism as a viable solution.

  • I am re-reading this book again and it's message is timeless - greed, selfishness, inhumanity, terror, despair - I think this review makes a good point, many issues from the time this book was written ARE happening now. The rich get richer, and poor suffer more, and money is the only thing that matters.

  • BOLLOCKS YOU ARE TALKIN BOLLOCKS,HOW MANY TIMES DO WANT TO SEE YOUR KIDS WORRY ABOUT THEIR JOBS,yOu have had your chance you capitalist bastard ,we the workers have had enough

  • Comment removed

  • Don't call anyone a chink until you know their of Chinese descent or actually Chinese. in fact, don't call anyone chinks it's mean and has no purpose but to hurt

  • Comment removed

  • No I'm stating that it's a real degrading way to call Chinese people chinks and that it's incorrect to call anyone(and shouldn't be even used) chinks when they're not Chinese or of Chinese Descent. That's like calling a Man of Spanish Descent a Cracker. He's not Caucasian and that's mean anyway

  • "....idiots in the 'Tea Bagger movement...?" Really classy, Jonathan. Based upon some of your commentary, this is kind of like the 'leftist, idiot pot calling the kettle black.'

  • You have no idea how wrong you are about the recession.

  • stand up for liberty...

  • the mexicans of their day ? these people were american citizens who learned the language of the land...people who WANTED to assimilate into american culture...see the difference.

  • He says the Mexican of their day because he is adhering to the current world view where the Anglo-American is at the top (the superior race), the German is next and below them are the hybrid of Irish-Italians, below them are all the other ethnic groups who are made to fight for a position on the ladder of this cast system but who will always remain below those who rule over their lives. The only way to beat this cast system is to negate it—do not believe in it!

  • any idea where i can see this movie on you tuube. i need it for a project.

  • No not the mexicans The Asians you a**!

    gosh what an ignorant retard

  • Okies considered Mexicans of their day. job stealers at best and sub human at worst " What! What's with that nonsense! What maybe they should "Re think" and say is the struggling immigrant and or unfortunete american who's trying to better their and their familys life!

  • u say it urself "considered"

  • why are tea baggers idiots, Can we have no intelligent exchange ideas are we all so extreme that we can only attack those we disagree with? Boom and bust are created by the bubbles of the federal reserve enacted by Wilson and then fully envisioned by Roosevelt.

  • doe sanyone know the song that plays during the opening credits of the original movie?

  • It's an arrangement of "Red River Valley", one of my favorite songs. Also used in "Prairie Home Companion", by Robert Altman.

  • I actually supported Hillary, and still believe she would have been a better President at this time. Yeah, I know she pander and sidestep with the best of them, but she has been willing to actually take on vested interests on occasion- Let's face it, when dealing with intrenched interests, maybe a 'stone cold bitch' might have cut through a bit better than the beautifully spoken (but ultimately 'business as usual') Obama. We live in hope! You have a great day, to.

    The Captain.

  • dwells777: We may not agree with all the decisions President Obama makes, but bear in mind that all, I repeat ALL, the massive problems he faces are ones he INHERITED, not ones he created- and most of them were created (or at the very least exacerbated) by Bush the Buffoon. Tax cuts for the rich (and screw everyone else - BUSH. Send brave young soldiers to war based on LIES - BUSH. Stand by and watch Wall Street Robberbarrons run riot and send the US econony to the point of collapse- Guess Who?

  • I have been rethinking the statments that Obama inherited this mess... well my conclusion,Obama contributor a little to the economic collapse and nothing to stop it..

One only has to look at the people he has chosen for his management team ,Deregulators and Wall Streeters.

He Voted NO on -paying down federal debt by rating programs' effectiveness. (Mar 2007) $40B in reduced federal overall spending. (Dec 2005), establishing reserve funds & pre-funding for Social Security. (Mar 2007)

  • ubuibiok: While I stand by my comments re President Obama inheriting the mess, I certainly agree that he appears to have put the same people who created the mess in charge of fixing it - Bad move! In my view, he should have immediately appointed a Special Prosecutor to bring these glorified con-artists to justice. But, we are talking politicians here; they are all, even Obama, far to beholden to institutionalised vested interests to properly serve the People.

  • concur...the irony being "It ain't his fault, cause the Bank tell him what to do." and the rest of the verbal exchange is so descriptive of today's drama.

And , Hay, You Have a Better Day...

    U B U I B I OK

  • Let's all blame Bush - that will keep us distracted from what this president is doing to destroy our country. Blame "tea-baggers" - they're the real problem. What exactly was the point of all this? When are Americans (are you one?) going to put the name-calling aside and really have a dialogue about how to fix their country?

  • "A walking chunk of mean man".....

  • Comment removed

  • Just finished reading the Grapes of Wrath. As a man looking for employment I can identify a little with the characters and their plight. Their hardships however, were far in excess of mine and the novel actually made me realise, this recession isn't so bad.

  • Bush's Recession, Obama's Depression.

Republicans in large part have essentially been Democrat-Lite on fiscal matters for a long time but with the Obama

Admin and the current Dem controlled Congress what we have now is liberal fiscal policy on steroids when the economy and the nation as a whole can afford it least.

Obama thinks he's saving us but woe unto those being destroyed by someone convinced he's helping you. When his policies fail, he wont stop, he'll only compound?

  • Did they hurt you, Tommy? Did they make you "mean mad"? - I agree with Jonathan .. the message and the history depicted in this film / Steinbeck's book - still resonates today ... Workers of the World Unite!!!

TO halbie71 --- Exactly how is Obama oppressing you? Maybe you should turn down the sound when your watching Glen Beck ---

  • sidDkid87, You need to watch youtube video "Ma and Pa Kettle Math" That is the same math Obama will use to pay for his health care plan & fix our economy. COMMON SENSE, TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY!!!!!

  • Take back our country? From who? "Our country' as you put it, was taken from "us" long before Obama showed up. I often wonder if it ever was truly "ours" in the first place. The wealthy 5% have always beat down the 95% working stiffs. By the way, who told you that Obama would use "Ma and Pa Kettle Math"? Was it Obama himself or Glen Beck? That said, I'll check out the video. If we put up with Bush for 8 years the least you can do is give Obama his shot. He deserves at least that. Peace.

  • sidDkid87 the wealthy don't beat you down, you beat yourself down! Give Obama a shot? In less than a year in office he has screwed up almost everything he changes, at that rate by the time his term is up, the U.S. will become a third world nation.

  • Sorry halbie71 - watched "Ma and Pa Kettle Math" - I'm sure that was meant purely for laughs - I don't see how or why you feel so compelled to connect this the Obama Admin --- you are waaaayyyy out on the limb(augh) on this one

  • I think your buddy Obama put our whole country waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy out on a limb with his spending policies. What will he screw up next?

  • Screw up next? Maybe he'll invade Iraq ... too late --- "Ma and Pa Kettle" beat him to it --- talk about a waste lives, money & resources. Wow!!! Obama is not "my buddy". He's our president. I'm guessing Bush was your "buddy". So to say the Obama spending policies are out of control is a real laugh. Unless you are in the top 5% of the wealth in this country you are on the wrong side of this argument. But that's your opinion and you're entitled to it.

  • sidDkid87 I think you need to go back on your medication.

  • I'll do that when you quit watching Glen "they're taking over" Beck --- paranoia with a capital "P"! Besides, who can afford to be on meds without universal health?

  • sidDkid87 quit watching Keith (Down For The Count) Olbermann & Michael (Sickopotamus) Moore Movies-Loonies With a Capital L!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is getting boring, halbie. Lets just agree to disagree. You never did answer my original question about how Obama's oppressing you? I'll leave you with this suggestion: read Steinbecks book and/or watch (in it's entirety) John Fords film: "The Grapes of Wrath". I know there's a lot of freeloaders out there living off welfare & unemployment but I believe the majority of common men & women in this country just want decent honest wage so they can provide a decent life for their families.

  • How about Marty (1955)? Nancy Pelosi: Mr. President how would you like to screw up the country?

Obama: I don't know Nancy, how would you like to screw up the country?

  • Why don't you do a ReThink Review of "All The King's Men" (1949) & compare it to our current President Obama?

How about Spartacus (1960) & compare it to how the common citizens today are rebelling aagainst their wacko Liberal oppressors?

  • that seemed fair and balanced?????? wasn't it?

  • "Teabagger Movement?" First of all, gross insult to use this term, propagated on CNN. Secondly, Jonathan, the persons who are participants in that grassroots movement are your fellow citizens --- simple, working class people who are, as the acronym goes, Taxed Enough Already. You'll find out before it is too late that they (we) are right.

  • Lightweight, superficial rubbish barely acceptable from a high school student.

Go join the Obama team. You'll do well.

    Grow up indeed.

  • Jonathan Kim needs to learn to think before he can ever learn to rethink....What a moron

  • read the book, saw the movie, both good. as for this insightful vid, NOT. the boom and bust is called hollowed out federal reserve control of economic activity, globalism, economism, if the interest is low they will borrow, employment will be high, even for illegal aliens and third worlder's. they will all consume and the pie will grow. oh boy economism, globalism, consumerism. it went on for years and now because you have arrived and are aware in your youth it must be bush's fault. grow up!

  • Awesome vid Jonathan, thanx very much for sharin',....hmmm...the book, Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, ya think its available on amazon or book of the month club?

  • As a political analyst, you make a good film reviewer. Lack of regulation did not cause the depression, the New Deal took a mild downturn and made it into a 16-year rut. Obama's policies will do the same. No one ever talks about the depression of 1921 despite the fundamentals being worse than in 1929. Why? Because the govt did nothing, stripped away regulations and let the market correct itself, which it did very promptly. Spare me the bourgeois socialism

  • AMEN

  • That plus the lying theiving politicians and social architects who think govt programs fix everything.

  • the Bush recession, bla bla bla, it's all Bush's fault, wa, wa, wa. Can't expect the messiah to fix all that mess so what the heck let's just spend the entire treasury.

this "tough economy" is like a pimple on the ass that was the great depression. It's our own fault we ran up our personal debt and did not save. It was a house of cards and it was time to fall. The president is trying to build another one made out of IOU's

  • Nice. Thanks.

  • excellent book - never saw the movie

  • great book indeed!

  • I'll go rebel if they remake Steinbeck OR John Ford ever.

Of course, both of them would probably want me to. Go rebel, that is. Regardless.

  • That dumb bastard Obongo is making it so much worse!

  • No sequels!!! no no no. thanks Johathan. You are so right. Corporations appear to run roughshod over everything including our own government. Money still talks and greed is the core element to what occurred in '29 and now. Strong labour movements help to protect the vunerable from exorbant corporate exploitation.

  • Thanks for another great review, Jonathan. I agree, who needs a sequel when the original movie (and book) plays so well today.
