Europeans or other immigrant groups didn't "assimilate": look at all the immigrant communities all over the US: the Amish, the Little Italies, the Jewish communities, the Polish, Greek, German, Dutch communities, the Chinatowns. All these communities have been in the US for hundreds of years and they still have easily recognizable cultural manifestations that link them to the cultures where they've come from. They have enriched the US. The Latino communities are doing exactly the same.

We have hired and used them to better our economy. Now after staying for years, raising their US born children, we ask them to leave. That doesn't sound right to me.

Oh, cry me a river! It is well documented that illegal immigration has just about bankrupt California with the drain on social services such as jails, schools and hospitals; 9 major urgent/emergency care hospitals have closed in So Cal since 2006, gang crime is out of control, and diseases once virtually gone in the US are making a comeback. BUT...even if none of that were true, this country, any country, has a right to know who and what is crossing over its borders and to control the numbers.

True "la raza" means the race. But, "La Raza" means Americans, people born in the New World. La Raza is synonym of "Americanos" since 1500. Oct. 12th is La Raza Day in the rest of the American continent. 1st choice was American Day, 2nd choice was Hispanic Day. They din't want to use Hispanic Day because it implied Spain.
