  • Smooth lap... looked very fast.

  • My friend own this one. :(

  • flat6 sounds so seducting

  • Get that PDK shit out of here and give me a third pedal.

  • the cayman s is the best car porsche has ever produced.

If you put identical engines, in terms of performance, in a carrera and a cayman, the cayman would come out the clear winner.

  • Randy's 'confident' commentary has made the case of why the Cayman should REPLACE the 911. It can drive around corners better than the 911. That means going through corners requires less braking and accelerating, thus improving lap times at a cheaper price. Also, while the Cayman may be a little slower in 0-60, it can expand its wheelbase to fit a bigger torquier engine unlike 911's limited engine bay. Therefore, the Cayman can be more able to compete with the Corvetter ZR1 and the Nissan GTR.

  • @unknownunknowns Well, let's not be silly, shall we? Cayman is not gonna replace the 911 EVER. But the next 911 will have the engine's center of gravity further in the middle of the car which is gonna help a lot

  • @sspope Isn't that what the purpose of the Cayman is?

  • @unknownunknowns The purpose of Cayman is to be the less powerful, less expensive Porsche's offering. 911 is still keeping its rear seats anyway, so it won't be quite mid-engined yet btw.

  • @sspope If that's the case then there should be 911s that offer 1.5L engines. And what's the use of those rear seats? Only if you're raise an infant. I like the fact that the 911 constantly being refined but rear engine constantly throws the car outward at a corner and addressing it costs WAY too much money as the GT2 RS costs way more than the Corvette ZR1 and the Nissan GTR for about the same performance. That's where the mid-engined Cayman comes and it is possible to put turbos on it.

  • @unknownunknowns I own a cayman S and when porsche offers a 380bhp Cayman I will upgrade my current one.

Instead of the Cayman replacing the 911 I rather see the 911 redesigned as a mid engine. I like the fact you can get such a great little car with out spending 911 Money.

  • @Porschemovies I'm glad to seeing you agreeing with me but the Cayman is basically a 911 with the engine in the middle, so the 911 should be ditched to save money.

  • Is Laguna Seca a famous track or something ? This is the first time I've heard of it.

  • @nielsboex yea um...it is

  • I think it looks better than any 911 o.o

    Well for the most part

  • too few people know that the Cayman out-handles the 911...everyone assumes that the 911 must outperform the Cayman in all regards simply because it costs more

  • cayman S is THE best Porsche...you don´t need any 911.

  • nice tits lol

  • maybe i missed it, or they neglected to mention... does this have the optional LSD installed. the brakes certainly look standard. i don't doubt with the mentioned options ticked, this car will outperform any 911 up to gt3/ gt3rs in handling stakes

  • The Cayman S w/PDK is almost 300lbs lighter than the Nismo 370z. It goes to show how the weight and handling has an advantage. Being the Nismo is still new I'm curious to see what other options they make for it. However dropping 300lbs and some chassis adjustment to balance out the weight would do wonders for a new track time.

  • @CommanderB9488

chassis has infinitely more to do with handling than weight...the 370z has a terrible chassis, a 3800lbs '10 Camaro drives circles around it on tracks...then again the GTR is almost 4000lbs, and a 2010 camaro with any mods on the planet can't keep up with a lightly moded 2002 camaro (3400lbs)...

Point being it's about the whole package, not 1 specific thing.

  • I've got one of these babies and I've owned 911 and ferraris with it! It is modified though :D

  • The other thing nice about the Porsche flat six is it's very low center of gravity. I drove an 09 recently and pushed it to the edge; it held the corners like a slot car, even on some negative cambered corners. I realize it's a lot more cash, but the 370Z can't hang with this thing on the corners. This is not to mention the comfort and luxury that comes with it. I guess you get what you pay for.

  • Well and it turns out that the d-belt on the blinker makes for a low pressure situation with pre-ambulation dragnificator. I would suggest machining .000000000000025 of the thermaldynameter to create the proper hydrothermal vacuumation in the Windscosity. Just a thought.

  • I agree. and its a porshe, a porshe is expensive because its a porshe, its supose to be expensive. the porshe also looks way better than the nissan. the poshe is the car id rather own, its so awesome. and plus the engine is in the back, which is really cool.

  • If i could afford a 911 i'd buy a corvette

  • are you serious, the corvette is so crappy. it has a leaf spring suspension. the same as a 1970 pickup. and the 911 is way more fun to drive, is luxurious, and fuel efficient. And it looks way better than the corvette. the vette looks dull. I would much rather get the buetiful porshe.

  • You are neglecting to mention that the ZR1 has magnetic ride control, and faster lap times and slalom speed than a 911 turbo, for the same price

  • it doesn't really matter what tech the car uses, it's outdated but it works pretty well doesn't it? The C6, Z06, and ZR1 would be awfully slow if it was true.

  • Exactly

  • I wonder will this be better than the Lotus Evora. I can't wait to see that match-up.

  • @koukicrisp the lotus evora is meant to be in the same class as a carrera the cayman/boxster are more in the class of the elise

  • are you kidding the evora sucks!

  • Looks like the car is configured for some motion capture to be put in a video game.

  • id buy this even if i could afford a 911

  • fuck no not me

  • your a dumbass

  • i wouldn't buy the cayman becuse of power and handling, i like the size of the cayman, i like the look of the cayman, i like the cayman!!! I would never doubt that a 911 could kick its ass but id buy the cheaper car that i like the looks of and put a couple more bucks into it via TecArt.... but id rather build a 1948 chevy pickup and a '65 Impala then buy any of todays cars

  • better than the 911 i got to get 1

  • what is wrong with you people. this is what porshe was afraid of, making people think the cayman is better than the 911, because they would loose money if people choose to buy the cheaper cayman instead of the more expensive 911. the 911 is better and it always will be.

  • i read an article in a recent magazine where they took a ton of cars to the track, and the cayman s 911 turbo and one other porsche posted identical lap times. It was pretty weird. I'll try and find it if you like.

  • To all the people quoting Clarkson, he made those comments in reference to gen 1 Cayman. This is a gen 2 Cayman and Porsche re-tooled this car into something truly special instead of what Jeremy referred to as filling a gap. Many people are calling this better than a 911 and even possibly the best car Porsche makes... though I do think the gt3 probably is. Great car and not ridiculously expensive as a gt3.

  • I am just amazed on all the good reviews on this Cayman S. Kinda overshadowing the 911 reviews. Cannot believe it was picked as the Best Drivers Car, it beat the ZR-1, R8, XFR, CTS-V, etc.. To think that I thought this was just another car for people who cannot afford a 911. And it hits peak HP at 7200 RPM, damn. Better than the 911 S.

  • @amer1cancer2753 Damn straight buddy. good reviews off the chart, just started looking into the cayman.

    Cayman > 911

Axe the 911, its existence is the cayman's only obstacle to supremacy.

upgrade cayman to 911 spec and make it the flagship. apart from engine power technically much better car than 911 and better looking too, rear engine heritage sucks, mid engine ftw.

  • @amer1cancer2753

its not that people cannot aford 911 - porsche cannot aford to biuld proper sport car (supercar) that whould be midengined becouse porsche brand is based on 911 marketing and history... I just wish porsche whould move forward

  • Porsche should suck it up, and tradition be damned, mid-engine the 911 with the next model. It seems like everyone who drives the Cayman says that with more power it would be better than a 911. They've already dropped the air cooling as of several generations ago which at the time was thought to be sacrilege.

  • i agree wth freddie 2199. if they put more power on that cayman, it would be good bye to 911 crown. make the 911 mid engine. it would really be the next king of the road.

  • yeah porsche wont do that because no one would buy the 911. many people feel that porsche deliberately made this car not as good as it easily could be so that it doesnt threaten the 911 sales

  • i totally agree with you.

  • I had the chance to race against a cayman S on a road course. Yes its great. I could not get around to pass it. I had a 4 lap battle with it.

  • GOODGODALMIGHTY... This is a wet dream on wheels!

  • its ugly.

  • Got to drive a friend's 2007 Cayman S. Best goddam manual transmission I've ever had the liberty of touching.

  • raced there is forza it wuz nothin

  • only one of the best shows EVER!!!

  • i have driven one of those and my god it was nice :D

  • 2010 shelby only 1 second behind the Caymen???

  • Can anyone explain why the tire looks like it's stationary after corners?

    Example being 1:17

  • because of how many FPS (frames per-second) the camera is filming at, plus when they lower the video quality to fit on youtube, the FPS decreases, so if the tire is spining at a rate that catches the tire in the came location in every frame, the tire appears to be frozen

  • im pretty sure thats whats called the wagon wheel effect

  • I don't think so. Today, just too many people want agressive looking cars and if it doesn't look agressive or smiley, they say it's ugly.

  • What good do you think that helmet would do him n a crash?

  • the helmet would do him a lot of good, if any crash happended, it will keep the vital; most vital part from harm

  • Does anyone know what's up with the incredibly lame music?

  • I think the correct question is: What's up with the incredibly ugly Panamera? I mean, take a look at Cayman, gorgeus!

  • @RomaniaTricolor The 2012 Cayman R looks even better.

  • I had a 2007 Cayman S. These cars are so fun to drive--Pobst describes it perfectly. Unfortunately, mine had too much shop time so it was traded in for a 2008 Z51 Corvette; almost as fun and, thus far, fewer problems.

  • Porsche makes the most reliable sports cars in the world FYI

  • Now if they dropped the motor from a 911 Turbo in there... it would definitely do better than the 911 itself. Or perhaps if it gets up to GT2 leves

  • Exactly! Clarkson nailed the biggest problem with Cayman: it's only there to fill a marget gap. If you're going to put the engine behind the driver, put it in the middle. These days it's all about weight distribution. The days of weighing down the rear to reduce wheel spin and gain traction are long over. We have computers doing that nowadays. I think if they gave this thing the kind of love the 911 gets, there would no longer be a 911. Sad, but true.

  • Who's Clarkson?

  • Jeremy Clarkson of the BBC's top gear.

  • What?

  • You asked Who's Clarkson.

  • I still don't even know.

  • a famouse car guy from the UK. he is the UK version of Jay Leno. Clarkson Has a TV Show "Top Gear" on the BBC's channel. A great show for car passion people. also a funny show sometimes.

  • Um.... what?

  • ....someone asked who's "Clarkson".

  • I did, but why? And who is he?

  • Clarkson is a wanker. He's not a good driver and over acts every scene; kinda like that idiot on "Future Weapons."

  • Sure, but he manages to be entertaining at the same time which is why we love him.

  • not a good driver? he drives cars for a living! he better be good he gets paid to do it!

  • for all you who wanted to know it came in 1st place

  • An automatic transmission in a best "driver's car" competition? Now that's funny.

  • this automatic transmission is much different from most cars

  • Its not an automatic.

  • 3:50 - 3:58

  • It's truly amazing to see Porsche continue their prestige with their flat 6 for all these years. I mean competing against the V8 and V10 monsters of the world, Porsche has always overachieved without compromising. Lightweight, function over form.... these Porsche engineers are simply geniuses.

  • it ain't for nothing them Porches, Audi, BMW's, Mercedes', volkswagen's and company cost that kind of money. ask a german-car owner and he/she'll tell you...

Du kann nicht schlagen a Deutsch anderenfalls als mit a Deutsch.

    Gotta fight fire with fire

  • @brocky The man in the video made it extremely clear that the Cayman is perhaps the best car made by Porsche and that the engine is in the right place. If Porsche's engineers were geniuses like you said, they would have realized 47 years ago that the 911's engine would forever compromise its performance. I will agree with you on the flat 6 in the Cayman. With the sport chrono pack, limited slip diff, PASM and carbon ceramic brakes, it is possibly the best sportscar on the market.

  • @brocky Yes I agree, I love six cylinders, mainly v6 and flat 6 configurations.. for me a Porsche isn't a Porsche unless it has a flat 6.. the weight is down low, just where it should be.

  • 7 speed close ratio!...man i would love Love LOVE to get behind the wheel of that beast

  • Porsche have been doing flat 6 since a while back

  • I have not really been a fan of porsche ( but I photohoped a picture of one and used it as my background image ) a few miles where I live there is an old porsche for sale..my dad said whatever amount I save up for a car he'll match it..so I may get an old porsche, an old Toyota Celica GT ( has flip up headlights ) a 57?ish Chevy Apache and other cars a guy owns..my dad has seen them but I am going to see them today or tuesday

  • the boxster and cayman have had a flat six since they came out

  • hopefully Motor trend will do a lap run with 370z.

  • they did with Nismo 370z

    1:46.5

  • Why did he leave it in automatic on a race track?

  • because the pdk is that good

  • porsche rules,

many say that their cars look the same but there are soo beautifull that you can't judge them, they use that retro aamazing design that started with the first 911,and keeps being better and better as years go by,

  • So this car won the whole Driver's car comparo.

In theory, what's better than this? A convertible Cayman!

There you go, Boxster is the best Porsche.

  • Then you haven't seen the Panamera

  • he does not

  • i dont want to fight trolls by being a troll, and id hate to state the obvious, but the driver of the car has won so many championships and is one of america's best road racers. anyway, hope your mom dies of cancer.

  • yes... look at a german tv program ..they all talk while driving^^ ...

  • love the cayman.

the best driver's car should be:

comfortable on the road, easy to drive, handle well, proper manual transmission, and rear wheel drive

  • PDK = Pretty Darn Kwik?

  • All porches look exactly the same

  • then explain how we all separate them easily just by looking at them?

  • *coughPanameracoughCayennecough*

  • Cayman GT3 please!?!

  • How so...?

  • Randy is a pro and Laguna is his stomping grounds , I think he's qualified.

  • You've got to be kidding me, the guy is a professional race driver who has (according to his web site, I just checked) won 9 professional championships and has won the 24 hrs of Daytona twice. Both the Audi and Porsche factory teams have paid him money to race their cars. What are your qualifications?

  • Why are you bringing back a 2 week old comment? Let it be.

  • it just could look better

  • they rated this 5 stars in their magazine. i so want one of these. and not for the 5 stars

  • flappy paddle gear box "PDK" FTL!

  • Great car, wish i could afford one.

  • cayan is pretty affordable, but not the S version lol

  • 1.43 seconds is not very quick around the track. good speed through the turns but not on the straights. but its a good buy for the money

  • jeremy clarkson said that this car could have been better than the 911 but it was just there to fill in a gap

  • 1:43.00?

  • let computer selects the right gears for you is fun??? I don't think so!!!

  • porcha? lol

  • That's the correct pronunciation.

  • porsche, is really pornounced porscha, in german

  • weird

  • AAh! Thanks for clearing that up...I always wondered...

  • It is not, it s pronounced with an "e" at the end.

  • it is, in german they dont say porsche as "porsch", or not even porsche, even tho its spelled porsche, its still pronounced as porsch-a

  • "D Motor - BF Lamborghini Gallardo vs. Cargraphic Porsche Turbo (1/2)"

check at :18, es ist ein Porsche, mit "E", basically in German all of the letters are produced with almost no variation in the pronunciation , other that umlauts and combinations like "eu" and some others. It's is very phonetically loyal to the way it's written.

  • its wierd everytime i ask my german classmates they pronounced it sha at the end, even the master mechanic of porsche (is german himself) in our place, spelled porsche, but pronunced differently. and at the vid u showed me, its pronounced porsha, damn maybe its my ear but, im sure its pronounced sha, and dont make me wrong i live in california, theres bunch of porsches here.

  • yeah but that's wrong, as well as damn annoying.

  • is it me or can this gu

    y not drive well

  • porsche is really out doing em selves with cheaper cars.

  • what are you talking about, there there to be used...its called racing line. he wouldnt want to drive your camry either.

  • I may have missed it but what was the lap time?

  • 103 seconds really slow in comparisson to the other cars, especially for a porsche

  • wow, I guess you ain't got a lot of friends then. No one cares.

  • its funny how well i know this course just by playing it in video games

  • i kno right im the same way lolz

  • Me too!

  • 911 is better.

  • no shit, and how much more does the 911 cost......

  • dang, nice! in Gran Turismo those downhill turns

nearly always get me, especially with the trucks...bleh lol

if I were to do that in real life with that cayman... lets just say there would be a good parts car LOL

  • Nice car. I still don't know why they feel they need to put those thumb shifters on the wheel.

  • very good video. I love that car. You people should erase all of the "FIRST" comments

  • get rid of the pdk and its amazing

  • did he said better then 911???

  • hmm yeah he did, porsche designed this car to be worse... i guess thay made it too good

  • why do they put yellow and black stickers on the steering wheel

  • porsche did a good job with this car.. i think it was like the third fastest lap out of ten cars.. and it only has a naturally aspirited V-6.. really impressive

  • really not their boxer engine?

  • flat six, not v6, there's a big difference.

  • isnt flat 6 more of a horozontal type engine

  • That's right, basically there's significantly fewer moving parts, so there's less power loss within the engine, do some research on it, it's really neat.

  • cool

  • better than th old cayman

  • what a bunch of first fags . sick lap but im not a big fan of that car but the newest one i like the most
