To be completely honist when i saw "The Matrix" i thought he couldn't remember lines properly which was why he hardly had any lines in The Matrix. He only asked questions throughout the movie, and most of the movie was just fighting and CGI effects, he only said "Why" "When" "Whoa" etc. I havn't seen many movies he is in, but i think his acting needs improvement, i don't mean to complain so much.

Well, a lot of people say "wow" and "what" in the Matrix films, so let's be fair here ;)

While the Matrix movies didn't have any interesting characters at all, in terms of being actual interesting personalities rather than as avatars for philosophical worldviews or representatives of such (in that regard, Morpheus was pretty damn interesting as the charismatic religious leader who loses his faith alongside with the audience), and guys like Laurence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving...

... and Lambert Wilson stole the show from the main protagonists in terms of acting chops, charisma and entertainmnet value, I would have to say that Reeves fills the shoes of his character very, very well. As the critics on the DVD commentary put it, "he holds the movie together".

Neo isn't a deep character or complex, dynamic personality, but he's a very relatable fish-out-the-water protagonist going through emotions such as bewilderment, doubt, shock, defiance, arrogance,

... fury, doubt, "action hero coolness" and epiphany, and Reeves fills these demands PERFECTLY in that movie, imo.

There are moments like when Cypher is killing off the crew one by one and Neo is just kinda standing there, starin', but most of the time, the first movie relies on his character arc, and he carries it through.

LOL. Quit ripping on him. Okay, so it's a little funny. But I thought he was good in this for the most part. He sure has a presence about him. I give him credit for being able to remember this crazy line. Who the hell can make sense out of a line like that? I would have been cracking up just trying to get the words out. It would have taken all afternoon. Anyway, he was by far the best looking one in the movie. He's unbelievably adorable. Just have him take his shirt off again.

As Keanu would say, "Whoah." Talk about lowering the bar. This is like when you applaud a two year old for scribbling on a sheet of paper and saying it's a giraffe. Gold star, Keanu, you remembered the line! Perhaps he should have stuck to just "whoah." The expression that comes with not being able to wrap your head around something is the only thing he can emote realistically.
