  • Hi Elder Hawkins, I pray for you every night that God would continue to grant grace unto you. I am Free grace Baptist or Primitive Baptist. I have a question I'm hoping that you can help me with. Many times in the Gospels Jesus speaks of people going to hell, for example Luke 12:5 but there are many other examples. My question is - if the Elect can't go to hell then he must be talking about the reprobate. In verses like Mark 9:43 it seems like there is an option of not going to hell. Thx

  • You hit the nail on the head, my brother! Anyone who holds firmly to Arminian theology, as sincere as they may be, is still in an unregenerate state because, even though ignorant, is still worshiping a jesus that is NOWHERE found in scripture. As for "pastors" that full well know the difference between arminianism and the biblical Gospel yet still preach free will works theology, they are heritics and must be called out as such by those who hold true to the biblical Gospel of God's free grace!

  • Hence my questions. Besides the fact that I don't believe God saves by a false gospel, I also don't believe there is enough propositional truth in an Arminian gospel, simply because anything less than the gospel is not a truncated gospel, but instead a false gospel. I wanted to hear a pastor's thoughts on these questions.

  • Gordon Clark, as much as I respect him, would be wrong on both of these points

  • I don't want to come across as someone targeting one man, or one organization. The fact is I respect what Clark has to say about other things, and also with most of what Trinity Foundation has to say. But these comments of his troubled me, b/c like you, I take my stand on the word of God alone. However, in mentioning Clark's comments to others, I've been told by many people that I'm wrong. I've been told things like there is enough propositional truth in Arminianism to save.

  • The second comes from his book, "What Do Presbyterians Believe?" I quote:

"An Arminian may be a truly regenerate Christian; in fact, if he is truly an Arminian and not a Pelagian who happens to belong to an Arminian church, he must be a saved man. But he is not usually, and cannot consistently be assured of his salvation. The places in which his creed differs from our Confession confuse the mind, dilute the Gospel, and impair its proclamation."

  • I am so appreciative that you took the time to answer my questions. And like I said, I wouldn't want you to think I was challenging you or something like that. The fact is I had been reading Gordon Clark, and he makes two claims that deeply trouble me. The first was that the thief on the cross knew nothing of the atonement, and yet was saved, and so therefore is the proof that no one needs to know of the atonement in order to be saved. He made this claim in Faith and Saving Faith, pg 1.
