my father ...now deceased trained the third Mr What .he bought him for 2. 000 guineas in Ireland specifically to win the national .due to adverse weather conditions my father was unable to ship him back to Hazel Slade and although kept on the move by the great Georgie Wells my father always maintained Mr What was a gallop short in his prep ....we ll never know !!! R.I.P. dad ...your legacy lives on ...
Have you heard that he rode a horse called Mandarin in a race that his mounts bit snaped in half, so he rode and won with leg not bit, and he also had a stomach virus, And the horse bowed a tendon in the middle of the race?
Yeah I heard something about that. I have a couple of autobiographies of his that were passed down. I'm also interested in investigating my family tree.
Ya his story is in Chicken Soup for the horse lovers soul. The person telling the story said that fred is her uncle. Man thats cool to be related to someone like that. Idk about my family tree
Yeah... Unfortunatly I never met him... We only have a letter from his wife... He couldnt write it because he had suffered a stroke... He could only write his name at the bottom.
Oh that sucks, You have inspired me to look into my family. It turns out i have alot of indian in me and on my grandmas dads side of the family is a long line of preachers and priests. I also have a cousin who did grandprix show jumping but unfortuanally had a horseback acedent and was killed.
Didn't know colour film existed of this. Wonderful nostalgia.
