  • No, it was Nat King Cole who sang this song, I believe.

  • @sheriffshizz It's Earl Grant. Says so right at 1:51.

  • Fabulous soap opera, and required viewing of every gay man! I've seen this more than once, and it never gets boring. (There is always something new to discover!) Douglas Sirk is a genius. And by the way, the over-the-top funeral sequence is guaranteed to get the tear ducts going!

  • another aspect of the earl grant/nat king cole comparison is both were keyboardists too-i have a '56 record of nat just playing the piano-no vocals...and many earl grant records with him on organ...

  • If you ever get the chance see the 1930's version of this movie with Claudette Colbert. It's not as glitzy as the Lana Turner version, but it's a great movie nonetheless. The tv show,"Family Affair" had an opening sequence similar to this using what appeared to be marbles.

  • ah man beautiful voice :)

  • one of my favorite movies, and a beautiful title song. I'm considering singing this at a nursing home. thanks for uploading.

  • @JackieBorelli did u sing it ?

  • @RaeRae914 =( no, didn't get the chance to do the nursing home. oh well. there'll be other opportunities

  • @JackieBorelli Yeah of course there will,,just had a look at ur channel and u have one fecking amazing voice ,,,im stunned hun really great ,,any chance ud do the i still got my health song from the movie Beaches r any of them would suit ur voice ,,anyways ur great dont go wasting that talent now dear :)x

  • @RaeRae914 awww!!! thanks so much!! I've been meaning to put up more videos, I have a lot of ideas, just not my own equipment, so I'm on other people's time. =/ I really appreciate your comment tho. I love Beaches, I love Bette Midler, I'll look into the song. =)

  • Ross Hunter cast Lana Turner right after the notorious Johnny Stompanto murder, no one else in Hollywood seemed to want to cast Lana in a movie.

Lana took a percentage of the gross in lieu of a salary and had the last laugh banking millions from this smash hit movie.

Ross Hunter made Imitation of Life, Pillow Talk, Back Street, Lover Come Back, Midnight Lace, Madame X et al and his smash hit movies were instrumental in restoring Universal to the first rung of studios.

  • This is one of my all time favorite songs not heard by many. Earl Grant an over looked artist and didn't get quite the credit that the great Nat King Cole did. This movie I saw when I was a young boy living in rural Upper Michigan where we very seldom saw anyone of color. This is a movie that all of us should see. Joe.I fell in love with Sandra Dee after seeing it and it opened my mind forever.

  • One of the best movie ever! And the song and title sequence are the BEST! Thank you for posting it!

  • Love this movie, did an essay on it but only got 59/100 :( ahh well lol

  • I'd love to read the essay. Do you still have it? :-))

  • Yes he does sound like Nat King Cole. A wonderful crooner nevertheless. Love it.

  • love this opening sequence

  • This is the most elegant and glamorous opening sequence for any film I've ever seen.

  • Where's the whole movie on here

  • I saw it many years ago, and I seem to recall a scene where Annie asks everyone to go with her to the ice cream parlor in town, and says, "I'm treating," and a scene in

town, but it's gone now when they show it on Turner Movie classics.

  • This terrific film is pure Douglas Sirk, if you know anything about his work.

  • A German expatriot, he was the master of the superb "womens film" or melodrama. I love them all. Be sure to see his efforts with Wyman and Hudson.

  • Lana's Madame X makes this look like a comedy. Oh, the melodrama! I love it!

  • GREAT melodrama and Lana's wardrobe!!!! Lored, he sounds like Nat King. Coincidence?

  • I miss the days when credits ran before the movie, not a third of the way through as now...

  • A lovely song and film Earl Grant so like Nat Cole thanks for this wonderful.

  • Earl Grant spookily an "Imitation of Nat King Cole"?

  • that wa the point he was an immitation of nat king cole..... and the glass is imitations of diamonds get it?

  • Anyone can be forgiven for thinking this is Nat King Cole, as he and Earl Grant had a similar husky, dry tone. Infact rumors persisted throughout his career that he was Cole's brother.

  • yes, it's earl grant

  • nat king cole? no, it`s earl grant

  • Nat King Cole a true genious. Rest in Peace

  • OMG!!!!! I LOVE YOU!! ::HUG:: I love this movie & I've been waiting since I joined youtube to find this on here! My mom will be happy to see this too! Thanks!!

  • One of my all time favorite movies!

  • It plays without pausing when replayed - so problem solved.

  • This is a great song - but unfortunately it keeps pausing when I play it. My actual download speed is 4.2 mps so I don't know why it is pausing.
