  • this my song and im 12 this song came on when i was at the mall i started singing it my mom said how you know this

  • R.I.P u rock all of our worlds I'm only 10

  • I'm 10 and I love this song

  • a little correction... this song was on the 'starchild' album, released on epic records in 1984... this album also had 'dear mr. gaye', 'out on a limb', etc. 'it must be magic' (released in 1981) had 'where's california', 'square biz', 'portugese love', etc. both albums are quite great though. ms. brockert was a wonderful soul. peace to you...

  • These pics remind me why i loved "Lady T" so much!!!!

  • I saw teena marie at a small bar in Miami in 1985. She rocked my world!

  • I love this song, so much. I'm almost 16 years old and I love the old school and Teena Marie

  • Loved this song when it came out, still bad ass!!. The music reminds me of Prince.

  • @mecaskey100 interestingly, if you look at the cover of the 'robbery' album, the person handing her their phone number, on the paper it reads, '777-9...' that was DEFINITELY a nod to prince. and you can hear glimpses of a prince influence on the 'emerald city' album as well. peace...

  • woahhhhhhhhhhhhh yea, love you teena <3

  • 10 dislikes? NIGGA PLEASE! There's no way you could not like that song.

  • first word i can think of........AWESOME LADY;););)

  • The beginning is the same as Full Metal Panic intro, who watched knows, awesome !

  • i love this song, but it was made before i was born. shamee lol :)

  • dirtygirl brought me here

  • love her sooo much!!!

  • truely is an awesome song. rest in piece Tenna Marie, even if you couldn't live forever atleast your music will.

  • This song was actually released 3 years later in 1984 on the album Starchild, and the label was Epic...........not to criticize or anything :)

  • RIP! Track is my fave but love her others and her talent

  • Guitar licks are sick

  • Classic

  • whit girl can sing.lol

  • Have this and the 12" remix on my vinyl! Old school favorite! Love her voice! Just wished her and Prince would have done something together! That would have been a hot collaboration. You can definitely tell both of their music back then were similar. RIP Teena! Btw, to all of you who criticize her drug use, alot of people have experimented in our early days, but most of us outgrow it! It doesn't mean you are any less of a human being or any less of a creature of GOD. Peace & LOVE! :-)

  • continuted... blood stream... This is the off crap that is so hurtful when you assume that Teena was a drugy or party real hard. She was a good singer and a great mom. She toured constantly to take care of her daughter and to send her to college. Everything Teena did was for Alia.. I just wish people knew facts instead of making up or saying bull shit about her... True legand gone way too soon. RIP Lady T you will always be the Ivory Queen Of Soul!!

  • i love this song she was is a true talent goiin to be missed

  • Just read Teena's wiki page, wow, she just kinda died out of the blue. Further reading revealed the real reason; she used to hang out with Rick James! LOL Anyone hanging out with Rick can expect a shorter life expectancy.

Any way, liked this song and hate to see the truly gifted 80's artists passing.

    RIP TEENA!

  • @phatcawk Ah like I said written above. This is the kind of crap that pisses me off. And to boot no respect to Teena Marie. Rick James put Teena on the map in 1979 which keep in mind Teena was signed to Motown records in 1976. Just because Rick did drugs doesn't mean Teena did. She was hit in the head in 2004 by a big picture that fell off a wall. Ever since that happened she started to get real bad seizures. Teena died 12/26/10 due to a serious seizure. Keep in mind NO DRUGS where found in her

  • Baby let me groove u.......

  • man i used to listen to this on cassette. rip!

  • The best years of good music has truly passed... I'm sorry, but it's true...

  • Oh snap! All this time I thought she was saying "I got a BIBLE first time that I saw you". Thanks for clearing that up for me. lol

  • 10 people are Lady Gaga fans! screw u! diz iz real music!

  • Rest In Peace Teena Marie You will not be forgotten.

  • This gal could sing!!!! I was so shocked when we lost a great 80s lady!!! This gal could sing and write and she had great stage presence!! Great entertainer

  • @debfan74 Nice!! I'm glad you wrote all these kind and true things about Teena.. I've read some comments where I'm like WTF.. People can be so mean and cruel. Teena was a very talented singer/songwriter and played many many instruments which alot of female singer didn't back then and still don't!! We lost a very special women when she passed. I'm still bummed out over it. Thanks for all the good memories and music Lady T!! RIP!! U will always be remembered and missed!!

  • @vumann40 just being honest about a great performer who deserved a lot more credit than she got...however this song will always be her essential 80s hit :-) I hear it a lot on my favorite station from Indianapolis IN ( I am from Indiana ) they play everything....and the station ( if u want to check it out ) is my107.9 ( WNTR ) they do play online

  • @debfan74 Thank you and I will check it out. Hope you had a great Thanksgiven!!!

  • @michael99745 If anyone every remakes this song I hope it's M. Carey

  • True talent truly will be missed

  • R I P TEENA MARIE YOUR GOING TO BE MISSED

  • Beautiful classic, thank you for sharing.

  • Teena Marie was such a beautiful woman inside and out. I wish I was able to see her live before she passed away. She was a great lyricist/singer/performer/musician...an all-around lady (and the ONLY person I can stand listening to that yodles after every word. For some reason, it just doesn't bother me *shrug*) R.I.P to the lady to which I share the same name ♥

  • This is the song I most remember from Teena Marie. I'm surprised she wasn't more popular. RIP.

  • @ RayAir1 YOU ARE SUCH AN IDIOT AS WELL AS A VERY RUDE DISRESPECTING SORRY ASS PIECE OF SHIT. IT'S ASSHOLES LIKE YOU THAT KEEP THE RACIAL TENSION GOING. THE WORD "NIGGER" MEANS A LOW LIFE SUCH AS YOU DUMB FUCK. R.I.P TEENA ... MAY GOD BLESS YOUR CHILD THAT YOU LEAVE BEHIND AND OVER LOOK DUMB ASSES AND THEIR RUDENESS.

  • What a loss!!! My heart is broken!! She was one of my FAVORITE female vocalists. Talent like hers will never be matched!!

  • @RayAir1 You are the most ignorant person. Do u really care who she loved? What she was able to do was love past the skin type to the inner person. Get a grip on yourself!

  • Her music was playing at some of the best times of my life growing up in the 80s. So sorry to see her die so young. Luv her voice.

  • R.I.P....

  • Teena Marie is one of my fav singers of all time & she's gone away waayy too soon. She passed away in her sleep on her Pasadena, CA home. although she will b missed, she left a great impact. talent, graceful, georgeous, & a huge deal that made her a singer when she was 19. not only that, she broke barriers despite that she is white. that's respect. R.I.P. Teena Marie. u will nvr b forgotten.

  • Miss You

  • What a huge loss for the r&b world. Some say Eminem is the most successful Caucasian in "black" music. Uh-uh. It was Teena Marie. This was her biggest hit on the pop charts (#4 on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 30, 1985), but she had many more hits on the r&b chart. I like this, Square Biz, I Need Your Lovin' and Ooh La La. RIP, Teena; you will forever be known as the Ivory Queen of Soul.

  • Now that was a talented woman! Just listen to that voice.

  • Just listen to the music, like or not, and keep your comments on her personal life to yourself plz. Thanks alot!

  • Frankly I'd never heard of her until she died. I've listened to some of her music and it's okay. Her guitar playing skills seemed to be her strongest asset.

Someone who is prone to seizures is in a dangerous profession when they have to work so hard on stage.

RIP and sincere sympathies to her family.

  • Teena will be sadly missed. I pray for her family and close friends. Teena vocals were naturally amazing. I loved for being a strong woman who mada a positive example for all woman. I really loved how she killed fire and desire at the 04 soul train music awards. Thats a moment that i will never forget. Rick james couldnt die without you. Thats true love. I miss you and i thank you for deliver such heartfelt melodies that really touch the soul.

  • We'll miss you Lady T

  • @martygwest She only has one hit? How many do you have?

  • @RayAir1 you are a fool

  • @RayAir1 seriously?

  • Comment removed

  • @ChuggaaconroyRules

Go get hit by a bus.

  • @RayAir1

Holy fuck, I'm sorry. I didn't someone got in my account. o_o

  • @RayAir1 You are a perfect example of what's wrong with the world today.....shame on you.

  • @RayAir1 You are a terrible person.

  • @RayAir1 I bet its easy to be a racist on a computer. I bet you never called any black person that to their face. I not the one to judge you. I am a black man!

  • I had the good fortune of seeing Teena perform several times in the early 80's and up to a few years ago. Miss her I will - tremendously. Her music defined a sector of my generation that was truly priceless. Talk some square biz in the afterlife baby - love ya

  • RIP Teena Marie; you were my favorite singer.

I noticed in the information to this video, it says "Lovergirl" was from the album "It Must Be Magic;" this is not true. "Lovergirl" was from the album "Starchild," released in 1984 on Epic Records, not Motown.

  • Respond to this video... its scary to think of legends now with God. RIP

  • The 80s was the best decade for pop culture and the greatest music. RIP Teena Marie.

  • So she decided to go to sleep one night and just decided not to wake up?? I don't understand!! How did she die?? Something happened!! R.I.P.

  • @VenRose5 Well, apparently Teena had a history of seizures. She had a grand mal seizure last month, and got put on anti-seizure meds. According to what I've read, it was said the meds made her feel suicidal so she cut down the dosage on her own, which may have caused her to have another seizure while she took a nap, and that could be how she died. If this is the case, the lesson is: Don't mess with prescription meds on your own. So sad; I loved Teena's music.
