I just saw Rescue Dawn, a movie I recommend by the way. This guy is very underrated. He's isn't given the credit he deserves in his movies, especially The Dark Knight. Heath Ledger was awsome, but C.B. (and everyone else in the movie) seemed to be overshadowed by him. Christian Bale is long over due for an oscar, or at least a nomination.

Bale's character unconsciously tortured himself, not because he ran over the kid, he did it because of guilt "running" from the accident. It was "hit and run". Once he realized what he had done, admitted to it and then surrendered himself to the police, he earned his salvation and peace.

He has shed flesh and made himslef gaunt and scary and delivered the performance of his life. He's never scared to get ugly for a role, precisely why his legions of fans love him all the more. He can get ugly and say goodbye to his georgeous face and sexy body to deliver genuine acting. CHRISTIAN is THE BEST!
