Saw Ray and Robby back in Detroit about 2 weeks ago at the Fillmore... They had an awesome stage show... they kinda ruined it though during the instrumental making it feel more like a cruise ship. but they are really nice guys in person.
That's very cool you got to meet them. I had a chance to see Robby and I blew it years ago and I regret it ever since. The music is immortal, still listening to it after all this time.
I wish I knew the cartoon they used this or a similar Doors beat-tune on, right about 1967-68-69??? My memory tells me it was a 'Casper the friendly ghost' episode, but it could have been some other Saturday morning cartoon.
Cool remembrance...I walked into a head shop at the shore and the Doors were playing. The incense was sweet and musky. There was no need to supplement the high. It was there as a truth and a testement to the age we were all feeling, and it was beautiful. Sight, sound, and smell. Jim Morrison stll lives.
1:18 after all these years he has the VOX and FENDER KEYBOARD BASS, because the 20th century doors and riders on the storm tv apperances, Ray played regular keyboards.
Its a shame that the doors could never shake the shadow of jim, they deserve a lot more credit, when u say THE DOORS, the first thing that comes to our mind is jim singing or dancing but we forget there are three other talented persons that belong to that band
"it just dripped out of the radio...the Beatles were saying "all you need is love" Morrison's going "light my fire, hunny"" hahaha fucking EPIC (and i absolutely hate that word even more so using it, but it's suits this well
Ray Manzarek is the ony member of The Doors to have aged well. If Jim Morrison were still alive, he would probably look the worst of all of them. After all, his looks were already fading by the time The Soft Parade came out.
I remember I was working in the Courthouse in Miami FL and during Jim Morrison of the Doors he was arrested for exposing himself.. I saw the media and crowd chasing him
during his courthouse appearance. He was quite a big deal back in 1968.
@mrgtkoop123 I don't know about that: Jim died so young and music is supposed to transmit the inner feelings of the songwriter. Yes, it was great music but the contents I'm not sure about that.
why not???did they promote violence, lying or any other bad stuff....no!so why should content be bad.....you have to focus more on the lyrics and understand them..
The Sound from this Organ is outstanding, and it is Something that makes this Special Doors Sound . " The say you will never do this Show again, well we did it , we only want to do it Once, Cheers :) Hahahah :)
Wow. To be 16 again in 1967. It just didn't get any better than that. Except for one thing - growing up in Detroit. Motown. I will never take my luck for granted. Loved and still love The Doors.
The Doors did not sell out on Ed Sullivan, but certainly did on cutting out so much of Light My Fire. No matter what is said, almost all bands existed to make money.
If Light My Fire were not shortened, there may have been no Doors albums after the first one.
The Doors were a fabulous collaboration. However, I always felt that without the keyboards they would have rocked harder. I could see Jim really getting into singing harder music than he was able to with the keyboard in the mix. It really, really would have kicked azzzz !
What happened is he's 65 years old. Manzarek and Densmore have "aged" better (Ray is 72!). Robby is and for many years has been very underappreciated musician and songwriter. Jim had the good fortune of not living into his late '60s... it'd sure be interesting to see him at that age. Also, Dave Diamond did not arrive at KFRC in San Francisco until mid-1968. In the Spring of '67, when he advised the Doors to cut "Light My Fire," he was at the revolutionary Top 40 station KBLA in Burbank.
my grandpa was friends with jims dad. he told my dad his son was in some band called the doors like it wasnt a big deal. he disowned him i guess. he was millitary guy
@TaylorMaio "my grandpa was friends with jims dad. he told my dad his son was in some band called the doors like it wasnt a big deal. he disowned him i guess. he was millitary guy"
Another band came out with a hit of their own because of the rumors going around that "his old man is a big wig in the establishment,,," and CCR didn't want that rumor to stick to them. "I'm not the fortunate one no no no"
i just can't get over how talented these guys were- i mean, Robby Krieger wrote Light My Fire- the song of the fucking Summer O' Love- when he was 20... what a skilled tunesmith. All of them.
I don't really care for Morrison i mean he was great an all but, every riff from every song is just damn epic, Robby deserves way more recognition for his work
The Beatles says: All you need is love, but Morrison says: Light my fire, is love but a different kind of love! Oh hell yeah! Morrison is the best songwriter in the fuckin' world!
This one time I took acid I remember everything started skipping and lagging. It looked just like this video. I was taken aback and just sort of trying to understand what was going on, not really remembering I was tripping. It was ok until I realized I was looking through my eyeballs. Anyone ever have that feeling?
THANKS for this----I saw The Doors in 1971 at Boston Arena, an almost tiny sports arena. Jim shot a case of beer and smashed a hole in the stage with the mike stand, then terrified the crowd by threatening to throw it at them like a spear....They set the place on fire that night, twice. And there WAS a big fire right across the street outside that night, a crazy chaos of the crowds and the fire departments all over the place...unforgettable.
What I remember about the Doors is once they broke on thru as one might say, magazines were saturated with Morrison pictures, stories etc.Once the New Haven incident happened, it ended! Miamie didn't help.I never thought of Morrison as a sex god. I loved his rebelliousness. Even tho I am sure he had some screws loose I didn't care. I like the rebel. Oh and that white shirt that always seemed to have dirty cuffs. All pics in mags back then he had that shirt on...didn't wash much I guess.
I saw the Doors minus Jim in 1972 in Owings Mills,Maryland..2,000 people in the round..I traded some Schlitz to Ray,who had a bottle of Jack next to his piano..I gave him 4 cans for a couple big gulps..he shared the beer with Robby..they sorta' looked my way at the end of the song..damn,i miss those days..if that had happened now they woulda' fined us for smuggling in beer n blew our high
No, Ray played a fender rhodes piano bass wtih his left hand that sat on top of his organ. On the records they had a bassist over dub the rhodes bass to get low end, but ray played all the bass lines live with the rhodes piano bass.

@sportsoracle "Classic Morrison to the censors after they said he'd never do another Ed Sullivan Show..."Hey man, we just did the Ed Sullivan Show."."
They could have played dumb, as in 'oh mann, we practiced and practiced and it just got into us that ONE way, Sorry mann I didn't really mean to do it the original way. Please ForGive Us'.
I like it when people use the 'forgiveness angle' on christians that have a problem with reality.
On the Ed Sullivan Show (not on this video for some reason), you can hear at the end of Light My Fire, someone on a microphone yell "fuck". I originally thought it to be Ray's voice but I'm not sure. My guess is Ray probably was pissed Jim sang the forbidden "higher" and realized they would be in trouble for it. But then again, it may be someone in the control room?! But, go to a different version of Ed Sullivan and the Doors and you'll hear it. It's too loud on this film here and you can't hear
@jcstriper I think you may be referring to Ray saying"C'mon" when they were really getting into the groove for the ending on the try to set the night on fire part.
Pulled up the positive energy of each individual in the band., with every performance all the more ......Unique The Doors!!!!

@RayManzarekGod "they have,,,, RUSH, Pink Floyd, lots of them!! They are all soo interesting!"
I've been very happy to have access to the documentary / interview recordings of my favorite bands, more so than listening to the music I loved.
Thanks Ray (thinking you are thee man-also proof there may be multiple Gods, but not a ((pun alert)) mono single ((rock)) God)
