  • I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS AS A KID AND THINKING MICHEAL JACKSON BLACK AND WHITE ENTRANCE CLASSIC ENTRANCE

  • You are...watching...HBO...HBO...yes you are...yes you are...just watch...HBO...HBO...it is on...it is on...it is on...on right now.

  • This is amazing! They do not do stuff like this anymore. Its very hard to recreate the excitement that this gave me.

  • This was the best HBO Theme by far. It's always been my favorite. It brings back a lot of memories. I also have Television's Greatest Hits, Vol. 7: Cable Ready, which has that theme on it. Thank you for uploading this video.

  • Cool... Krull is coming on!

  • I can say.....this damn swype on my phone drives me bonkers!!!!

  • All is can say is......aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!! I LOVE this! The 80's kicked major ass!!!!!!

  • 38-106 I just made my ringtone!!!

  • I love these comments lol. When my sister and I were kids she wrote lyrics for the music, well really all it was were the letters H B O placed strategically with the beat. Sing along, it's not hard to figure out when to say it!

  • I remember this came on and then BAM! Fraggle Rock!

  • This intro makes you feel like you are about to witness the most incredible event in the history of the universe! ... Then Police Acedemy II comes on.

  • @CrazyLinguiniLegs *Academy ... dumbass

  • Man those were the days... I remember running into the living room as a child when I heard this music...funny how watching this brings back so many memories

  • Awesome! Brings back some good memories

  • love it! Thanks!

  • Back when HBO (and Cinemax) mattered and people got it to see movies instead of original TV series.

  • @FarleyTube HBO has always had superior original programming.

  • @joshscobey Yes it did, like "Fraggle Rock" and "Not Necessarily the News", but that wasn't the primary draw then. Most people got it mainly for the movies.

  • hell yeah, good memories

  • Like a lot of things from that time -- better!!!

  • Well before CG. I remember this like yesterday....thanks for uploading!

  • I remember dancing to this when I was a kid.

  • I posted this on my forums. We were having a "beat the old school" clip. Fraggle Rock, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, and Batman adventures can't outdo this. Thus, I won. :D Thanks for posting this so long ago, so I could win today. :D

  • I agree with a lot. I got chills and awesome memories of being a kid flashed in my minds' eye. Awesome post. LOVES IT!!!

  • i remember running to the couch and not setting one foot on the floor whenever the intro came on good times

  • NAAA NAAA NAAAA. NA NA, NAAA NAAA NAAA

  • This intro reminds me of the good times in my younger days.

  • Omg. It does gives me goosebumps. They came along way now. I love HBO

  • If you can see my chillbumps! Thumbs up if this gave you the chills!! :D

  • oh rhis takes me back! Wow i feel old!

  • they don't make "feature presentation" clips like this anymore.

  • One of my favs from HBO! It was used well into the 90s. I remember seeing it around 94 or 95.

  • I remember seeing a documentary HBO did about this intro...how they made it and stuff...I agree...this is so epic!

  • You knew when the shit was about to to go down when you heard that tune. It seemed like the whole family was around for the main event and it always seemed to happen around eight for the hyped movies you know the big hits.

  • Oh yeah! Best. Intro. EVER!!!

  • Beautiful!

  • I was thinking about this song all day today and decided to look it up on youtube. What do you know? I absolutely love this HBO song and intro. Thanks for posting.

  • When I was little I would watch this and be like, "Wooooooooooow".

  • Old crap, time to move on...

  • @L1b3rta move on then. good riddance

  • @Landotter1

    Lol he mad!

  • @L1b3rta Not me, just being a smart-ass.... :-D

  • OMG WTF THIS SO OLD LIKE SHIT MAN

  • Brings back all the memories of being a kid in this time..

  • @pigskin82 Were you trying to watch the nudity? Because that's what I was trying to do!

  • It would be badass if HBO just started using this intro again without warning. Shit, I would tune in just knowing I would get to see this every Saturday night.

  • I miss this so much! Thank you so much for posting this!! I was sitting on my couch and for no reason at all this popped in my memory. I was hoping it was on youtube and watching it right now, I clapped and yelled hell yeah!!!

  • Thank you soo much for posting this!

  • I'm glad to see this freaked out other kids of the 80's. I used to cry when this came on. No one ever knows what I'm talking about...now I can show them.

  • hollly crapp this music just warped me back when i was 8 years old mannn they wont ever top the 80s

  • Comment removed

  • I remember this very well.

  • Rocking Eighties - even theme songs to channel presentations rocked then!!! I remember I would dance to this as a kid then too!!!

  • Is it creepy that I remember every part of this, but had never seen it in my life before today? Reincarnation man, its real.

  • When someone must have saw this for the first time, when it was brand new, it must have been like...WOOOOOOOOOW! I'M ABOUT TO WATCH SOMETHING UTTERLY AWESOME!!!!!1!1!

  • @DWolf2k2

When someone was watching that for the first time they were ALREADY watching something totally awesome.

    ...... and they knew it

  • I remember this one as well.

  • They forgot

''The following movie is rated R''

    lol

  • @CyclopsSerpent1 Before 1989 it said that if the movie was rated R, then it would only play at night.

  • THANK GOD FOR CYBERSPACE IT THE ONLY WAY TO GO BACK IN TIME AND SEE LIFE THE WAY IT USE TO BE HBO SHOULD SHOULD STILL SHOW THESE INTROS EVERY NOW THEN BECAUSE THEY ARE TIMELESS AND WORTHY OF OUR ATTENTION AND WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED ITS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER LIFE THE WAY IT USE TO BE ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WAS SOMETHING AWESOME. I LOVE IT WHEN THEY MAKE PRODUCTS THAT RETRO ALSO THEY SHOULD BRING BACK CARS THAT WAY THEY USE TO MAKE LIKE CHEVY NOVAS ETC. AND WITH NO COMPUTERS ELECTRONICS I HATET

  • have you seen the video of how they made it???? they busted their asses making this outstanding intro.

  • damn i love this intro!

  • Why did they take out the guy ,his wife ,and sometimes his kids watching TV at the beginning?

  • Probably so they could change with the times (since technology was always advancing) and give the intro more life (always cool).

  • I love the nostalgia! Reminds me of the movies shown during this era. Close encounters, big trouble in little china, streets of fire, national lampoons vacation.

  • This is AWESOME. I remember that intro like it was yesterday. MTV was still worth watching back then. I miss those fun years.

  • My niece Danielle was just a tiny thing when this was shown, she would come runninginto the living room when this music came on. I loved it too

  • The only thing that would make this intro more epic than it is...3D!!

  • ANYONE WHO DISLIKES THIS CAN KISS MY ASS!

  • When I was a kid, whenever I would see this open I would run around the house wildly, yelling like Paul Revere, "The HBO! The HBO!"

  • Sums up my life in 60 seconds =)

  • I remember the making of video for this intro.

  • @Convoy1971 That making-of video was pretty cool. Today, all of the miniature work would be CGI.

  • Used to scare me as a kid.

  • @countlordshaun13 Me too.

  • Did the 1988 HBO TV movie Steal The Sky when it first premiered use this excellent HBO in Space logo or the 1987 Neon HBO logo instead?

  • This was the best HBO intro I've ever seen.

  • I used to go to The Saint in NYC and they would lower the disco Ball to this song!

  • The first time our family had HBO was after moving to another town in 84/85. Brings back a lot of memories...

  • reminds me of grease part 2, lol. LOVE THIS

  • Gives me absolute chills of an excited nostalgia. Even with the short version of this clip (the one without the city involved), the HBO Feature Presentation" animation was always something I was excited by... The Music and all that. They so rarely did the full clip that when they DID do it, you knew it was a BIG even picture coming on.

  • Recorded In 1988.

  • Thanks for the memory.

  • When I heard this intro, I was excited because it meant that an awsome movie was going to play! This is the ABSOLUTE BEST HBO INTRO EVER!!! Makes me smile everytime I hear it 8D!!

  • when ever we saw this we knew we was seeing something better than basic tv..

  • This is one of the most beautiful things ever!...the memories.

  • I've Seen The HBO Feature Presentation Before When I Was A Baby & It Makes Me Feel Afraid

  • Awesome!!! Beginning reminds me of Beetlejuice lol

  • Excellent upload. I remember this very well. TX

  • I have a 1994 HBO airing of "Home Alone 2: Lost In New York" with the long version of this, as well.

  • man, this brought me back to my childhood

  • i remembered this when i was younger thanks awesome.

  • memories! thanks so much!

  • I used to think there was a city on fire in the distance because of the red light in the background

  • omg!! i cant believe you put this on... aww i made a friend.. i love ths opening.. i have it on tape so many times.. , as i used to always tape movies .. wow.. thank you!

  • being a kid at that time I was always watching HBO and this brings back a whole lot of memories good and bad ones

  • I always thought that that little set up of the town was so cute!!

  • BEST network intro ever!!!

  • great memories! best tv channel's intro ever!

  • This was the best HBO Intro ever imo.

  • Seeing these really bring a smile to my face. I miss these days!

  • 0:36, SO EPIC!!! Love it forever!

  • Was this an alternate logo cause this one doesn't have the guy changing to HBO at the start.

  • There were actually two with that guy changing to HBO, one with his wife and kids and the other just with his wife, depending on the rating.

  • Yeah, as jess said, it was a third opening; the first two had a guy changing the cable box (with or without the entire family), then there was this one, and the really short one that started in space.

  • i miss this so much

  • Yea! Superman2!!

  • RIP BILLY MAYS!

  • What does Billy Mays have to do with an 80's HBO logo?

  • damn! this looks very good coming off a Betamax tape. From what I can tell Betamax should have CRUSHED those VHS VCR's. What happened?

  • Bata of course was made by Apple sometime in the 80s i belive. they would be in like the back of the store, and only about 5% of households in the nation had these. As time went on, they wouldnt sell, and the company went out of business.

  • and also, the quality on Betamax wasn't as good as VHS and VCRs. Plus of course, there werent really any brands taking Beta and making them, or the tapes for them. So all of that crushed Betamax

  • VHS was of lower quality, but it was also a lot cheaper. Once the porn industry decided to use VHS to take adult movies out of grimy theaters and directly into viewers homes, the rest of the film industry followed suit. True story.

  • 2 things:

    1. i didnt know they used Betamax for their porn movies. that story is very interesting.

    2. i thought Betamax was lower quality than VHS. At least that's what i was told.

  • Speechless

  • the 80s were all about

bringing you the best shit EVER.

  • Man I miss this. Where has the time gone? 5 stars

  • Some themes of tv is burned to my memory...and this is definitely one of them! Great post! Thanks!

  • don't worry, everything's still awesome.

  • Nah shittier world now then back then.

  • when you think back, it wasn't all roses in the 80s either.

  • No it wasn't but compared to now it was. Certainly better tv shows and music anyway.

  • it was giddy, but i definitely remember the threat of being blown up by the ruskies and/or the libyans at any given moment.

given the choice, i'm glad i grew up in the 80s...but really given the choice i probably would have preferred the 50s....!

  • 80's were my teen years, good memories. Now work, work, work.

  • lol

  • What does an old logo have to with our current president?

  • Your an idiot!

  • The Saturday Night Opening Theme

  • wow, talk about brining back some memories! wasn't long after that that MTV was launched nationwide and Ted Turner became a household name.

  • me and my sister used to dance around the room when this came on

  • me and mine still do!

  • I would be awesome if HBO played this intro today.

  • Aw... my head... nostalgia rush...

  • Didnt a gymnist at one of the Olympics use this for her music?

  • Old school is cool! Funny thing is, first time I ever saw this as a kid, it scared the shit outta me. But I realized it was stupid to be scared of it. I think it was the music.

  • No school like the OLD SCHOOL !!!

  • @dndearnest Agreed.

  • This was one of my favorite intros when I was a kid 5 stars for this intro, and this theme for HBO, and a movie comes on after this intro, long live the 80's,and 90's.

  • BEST HBO intro ever!!

  • @thenudo OH YEAH! :)

  • @thenudo Agreed.

  • love the memories,thank you

  • and the most awexxome thing about this sequence-NO CGI AT ALL!!!

  • Classic.

  • If you notice this intro borrowed a little of their sound from the Jaws movie. Not, duh-da-duh-da, but the music they used as a prelude to the, duh-da duh-da... I also detect a hint of the movies- Flash Gordon and Star wars.

NEway, it's an awesome piece of music. When you heard that wind blowing, you knew you were about to be entertained.

They say smell brings back the most memories, but I disagree. I soon as I heard this,it brought back a flood of memories.

I'll take sound over mem. NEday!!

  • (C) 1987 Home Box Office, Inc.

  • (C) 1988 Home Box Office

  • Man. It's like: what happened to television? It used to be cool. Nobody really puts their heart and soul into their tv channels, now. It's just: "Hey, Bill...we're gonna' need an intro for the new episodes this season. So, if you could just make that happen by 2:00 this afternoon, that would would be great. Mmm-kay?"

-You know that's what's goin' on now.

  • Yep. The same thing with opening credits sequences on TV series.

"Ah, just slap a title card up there. To hell with it."

Creativity keeps dying a little more each and every decade.

  • What's the point? Everyone just fast forwards their Tivo past intro's now!

  • the point is that this is teh awesome

  • that was the titi movie theme song music!

  • the best hbo logo EVER created in the history of hbo and its other logos!

  • It's so . . . so . . .

    EPIC!

  • Every time I hear that cold wind blow, I literally shiver.

  • I remember this! It used to scare the shit outta me! I remember it came on right before either The Gate, The Invasion of the Body Snatchers or The Fly. One of those, cause after I heard this song, I would just freak out!

  • lol. Yeah this would be scary especially if it were turned up really loud like my dad used to do. But I love this theme. Back from the good ol days!

  • I can relate. This one scared me too. It wasn't until I got to high school that this stopped scaring me.

  • I remember this into. Kick ass!

  • Nice. This meant it was a Saturday family night. Pizza was finished...time to huddle around the tube and watch "First Born" or something with Michael Douglas!!!!!!

  • You're right. Even in the mid 90's, HBO did this on Saturday Night premieres only. When Die Hard With A Vengeance was on in 96, this intro preceded it and ditto with Twister in 97

  • and in the night time.
