What I mean is, is that it's easy enough to build a desktop right? Case, motherboard, GPU, CPU etc.

Laptops however are different, Unlike desktops, laptop parts come in less varities and are not nearly as compatible like desktop components. Plus you have to worry about cooling, space management, weight etc. Even if you were to buy a laptop, there are few laptops that are 11"" that will run Battlefield 3.

Somewhat. CPU is a bit more powerful with the R2, in comparison to the R1.

To be honest, the only reason I got the R2 was because there was sale at the time. I believe was around 300-400 dollars off if I got the core i7.

Revision 2.

Think of it as the Alienware M11x Second Edition.

The Revision 1 (or R1) used an intel Duo core, as opposed to an R2's i5 or i7 core.

They are all dual cores. Though with hyperthreading technology, I believe they act more like quad cores (Not sure though, I'm not a CPU expert.) i5 has a higher clock speed, making it overall better than the i3. The major reason to get a CPU upgrade, is if you plan on playing lots of RTS games. (RTS games are pretty CPU intensive)

Im sorry but im not liking the gameplay on the m11x R2 and i did EVERYTHING to its capability to play, sure it runs nice on BFBC2 in small urban areas but when u wanna snipe ane view everything, bogs down to 20 and below for a bit and it picks up when u look at the sky and get out of sniping zoom. 1300 back in Sep 2010 to realize that it got outdated in 5 months, waste of money.....wish the M14x was capable of a 6970M or i would of gotten it.

@MQnoob I am assuming it was due to the high fps rate within oasis on 32/32. Had it on 1366x768 graphic settings medium, then tried advance and went low on shadows and rest medium, went to 1xfsaa. At the resolution it was running fine until I hit a few explosions that brought it from 28-32 to 12 for about 15-22 seconds, when i look at the sky it goes back to the 28ish 30ish fps.

On the M11x R2? You should be able to get 30+ FPS on medium settings, seeing as how BF3 (not BBC3) or COD8 have just about the same graphics. Though to be honest, we can't be sure. We will have to wait and see.

I love my alienware m11x! It's perfect fort gaming on the go and I'm always on the go lol. I do have one issue if anyone has the same problem, I had to reinstall my Alien Command Center and now I can't access Alien Touch to disable my touchpad while I have a mouse plugged in, oh well small issue though

@MW2mostwanted the fix the hinge problem even though it wasn't that bad I have they r2 and people fuss about the hinge way to much I've had mine 4 months now and the hinge is fine I would recommend the r3 for the faster ram and longer battery life and the screen looks nicer and is less reflective

My M11x still is my main PC. Use it for taking notes in class (College), for doing my C++ programming, Video Editing, Internet and Gaming.

I still love this little machine. Though the new version of the M11x R3 looks awesome, I'm happy with my M11x R2. I intend on using this for gaming for at least another year and a half to come, and then maybe buy a newer version of the M11x.

I don't understand why people are complaining about the alienware service, since mine broke 2 times.. the same day it broke a repair team showed up and fixed it. absolutely perfect :D

Nope. The laptop is only 11" and is jam packed full of battery, graphics, and CPU power. There simply was no room for a CD drive.

Simple: By the internet or external CD drive.

For example, you can download steam. Steam lets you buy games online, and you can download them to your computer. You can also buy some games in boxed copy, and will let you play it without needing the disc. Like CoD Black Ops, Starcraft 2, and more.

The clock speed of the Intel i7 640 UM is way low, meaning that it doesn't consume much battery, thought it isn't extremely powerful itself. Name of CPU series =/= Power/Battery life

Honestly, if you don't ABSOLUTELY need it, I suggest you get the Aurora.

The M11x sacrifices performance for mobility. The Aurora is the better deal if you don't need ultra portability.

Is the m11x your main/sole PC? because if it isn't, I don't really see why you got the i7. I personally have a m11x with core i5, but only because I have an Alienware Aurora with i7 ~920 and dual ATI Radeon HD 5670's 10 feet away from me. IMO even if you get i7 with it, the m11x isn't uber powerful, because it uses the ULV version of the processors to save battery. What do you make of that?

I wanted a small portable laptop with good battery as well as enough punch to play most games on high or medium. I realize that it isn't very powerful, but I was looking for a good compromise between gaming and portability/battery life. The M11x fit perfectly.

@MQnoob Oh, well if you use it for gaming the CPU doesn't even matter much, it's all about the GPU in gaming. To be honest, I only really use my Aurora to it's full extent when I do extensive VFX in Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects, and I use my M11x for gaming and Sony Vegas. Have you tried overclocking yours yet?

It can heat up and make a lot of noise when gaming. I just suggest you stick something under the back side of the laptop to give more ventilation space for the fans.

The M11x will not be able to play Civilization 5 high-maxed out. Civilization 5 is REALLY cpu intensive, and the M11x has a weak CPU. You should be able to play Portal 2 high-maxed out since it's a less cpu intensive game.

I know a few stores in the US carry the m11x, not sure about Canada though. What M11x model are you hoping to get?

If you were looking to get an M11x R1 (core 2 duo), you might be able to find them at walmart:

I've also heard they are available at best buy, but I'm not sure.

Now if you were getting an M11x R2(core i5 or core i7), then you will have to order from dell.

In all honesty though, I still suggest you order from dell, as it's ,more or less, more reliable.

Gaming is like 2 hours.

The fan is only loud for gaming. Even so, just make sure the fan is getting enough air and it won't be too bad.
