I lived in England for 6 months in 2005. Cracked a rib. Went to the hospital, got care there, referred to a specialist, got a prescription. None of it cost me a penny. Care was great, they were all very nice. There were no long lines, no patients dying because of waiting. I hate America, the country I was born in. How did we get to this point? How did we get to be a third world country? I just watched SICKO for the first time last night and I cried.
Four months ago, I had a heart attack, emergency angioplasty and a stent put in my heart to hold an artery open. I have no insurance. The hospital bill? $40,000. It also stated on the bill that if I paid it in full within 30 days, I could get a 50% discount. So, if I am wealthy, rich and have plenty of money laying around... I get a huge discount. I need another stent put in my chest but the hospital won't do it unless I pay $10,000. I don't have the money. I hate living in America.
It's sad, we live in the riches country in the world, but don't give a damn about our own people... (or I should say, our greedy corrupt politicians).... It makes me sick, Cuba has better health care then we do, and their people don't have million dollar homes, BMW's, BENZ and SUV's... What does that say?

I have no health insurance and have broken my ankle so I will be out a fortune in medical costs. However,even if I had insurance I might still have problems with getting my insurance company to cover everything in spite of the premium I had paid. To me,whether or not you have health insurance,you should be fighting for Universal Healthcare. Why? In countries that have it everything is covered and their taxes do not really strain anybody. It costs too much in taxes is just a fear tactic.
I just watched the joke of a Senate Healthcare inquire discussion with a panel of so-called experts. The lady representing the insurance group said, if you are over 55 that you should pay 10% of your income towards healthcare insurance. Isn't that age discrimination?
It is because too many Americans care about nobody but themselves not realizing that even if they have health insurance there is no guarantee they will always get the care they need. The only way you can be guaranteed that you will always get the proper healthcare is if you are rich or live in a country with Universal Healthcare. Otherwise,you are at the mercy of Health Insurance companies which care nothing about you but care only about profits!!

Me and my little brother sent Mr. Bush, our president, the movie SiCKO for Christmas. We have no idea if he's gotten it or even watched it, and we hope he will finally realize what a desperate situation families are in at the moment.
I used to work in the insurance company (not medical, but homeowners), and it really is a fucked up thing. I am SOOO relieved I quit that job, because so many days I felt like an awful human being! I pray that we'll see free healthcare in our country in our lifetime! As a woman, it makes me dread the thought of how expensive it will be for me to have a baby in a hospital someday! :(

Wow thats awesome. If you haven't seen this go check it out, its a GREAT movie. All the fact checking has come out clean and its not so much focused on "funny" stunts, just a good overview of multiple health care systems.
The existing system is evil. Pure and simple. It's evil to profit from the pain and suffering and desperation that ensues when a human being is ill. The whole insurance industry is a parasitic cancer that feeds on fear and suffering. It would actually be CHEAPER to have universal single payer...people would live longer and be more productive too.
The best possible outcome for this movie is that it will spark an idea in the hearts of Americans to really push for a solution. Universal Healthcare may have several strong points, and I am all for equality in medical treatment, but we need something revolutionary. I pray that this would be the movie to spark the revolution.
There are definite problems, such as specialized surgery. If a person was to have an injury that required surgery that was not life threatening, they would be put on a waiting list and may wait many, many months or years for the surgery depending on its relative severity. This is a major problem that anyone with a problem similar to this with a universalized healthcare nation would tell you.
But at least it would be taken care of. There are 41 million people in this country who would never even get that surgery, should they need it, unless they could raise the thousands of dollars in cash. If they had that kind of money, they would have insurance....
There are waiting lists for all sorts of surgery. HMO doctors very busy, so you wait months to see one, especially a specialist. Then the insurer has to approve the operation, which can take a lot of arguing by the doctor If you are finally approved, you get in line at the one approved hospital--more months.
I think that there needs to be a multifaceted solution to the problem of U.S. healthcare. Universal health care is not a perfect solution and if it was, we would already be using it.
1/2 your life you work for the city, county, state and federal governments. 75% of the federal revenue comes from other than the income tax. How about cutting the federal budget by 25% and you pay no income tax? Pass a law that ALL med. ins. companies must cover any treatment your doctor recommends period!!!

I used to work in the insurance company (not medical, but homeowners), and it really is a fucked up thing. I am SOOO relieved I quit that job, because so many days I felt like an awful human being! I pray that we'll see free healthcare in our country in our lifetime! As a woman, it makes me dread the thought of how expensive it will be for me to have a baby in a hospital someday! :(

There are definite problems, such as specialized surgery. If a person was to have an injury that required surgery that was not life threatening, they would be put on a waiting list and may wait many, many months or years for the surgery depending on its relative severity. This is a major problem that anyone with a problem similar to this with a universalized healthcare nation would tell you.

There are waiting lists for all sorts of surgery. HMO doctors very busy, so you wait months to see one, especially a specialist. Then the insurer has to approve the operation, which can take a lot of arguing by the doctor If you are finally approved, you get in line at the one approved hospital--more months.

Only if you also pass a law forcing the insurance companies to take everyone who needs insurance, at the same standard price. Otherwise the insurance companies will cherry pick, and only take healthy customers, leaving anyone with a medical condition uninsured and uninsurable.

Right - anyone can get insurance if they don't need it. I'm surprised they don't sell car insurance to only pedestrians. Same "logic." Call the system what it is: the "your money or your life system." Says it all...
Anyone concerned about their insurance company should just include an extra $100 or so every month to help them out. If you don't, then you're with us.

@BadBadBob & people like him: why don't you actually post some facts if you think our health care system is so great? Every objective measure of health care I have seen shows universal care systems are much more efficient than our private enterprise system. Why? Because profit grows with inefficiency, - in health care you can not escape those basic market forces.
