omg does anyone remember the episode where it was night time and there was a clown in the yard, that all I remember and it scared the crap outta me for days.haaha
Crawfords have finally launched some TV shows on to DVD sadly Matlock isn't one of them. How ever hopefully they will release this in the future. I would suggest everyone email CP for Matlock. CP shows can only be purchased from there web site. crawfordsdvdcomau
Watching Matlock Police as a kid made we wanna join the Victoria Police ,which I did, but alas the job was not as rewarding as watching Matlock Police. Too much bullshit paperwork and too many glorified clerks in charge.
Michael Pate, one of Australias BEST yet all time underated actor who made it big in hollywood in the 50's and 60's and starred along side greats such as John Wayne, Tony Curtis and Rock hudson....appeared in our favorite TV shows like Batman and Get smart, and alongside Clint Eastwood in his breakout debut RAWHIDE........many more favorites, The Rifleman, Mission Impossible, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Time tunnel and so on. RIP Michael
Episode "walk like a man "1975 clearly shows Seville service station as " Tony's Garage" although Crawford's cleverly disguised the surrounding area with other scenes from other shots.
Just wanna repeat others comments that whoever owns the rights to the Crawfords catalogue is missing out on an absolute goldmine of DVD nostalgia and easy money. I can't believe those so-called media executives can't realise or get their act together to bring out CP's shows. Utter business stupidity.
i remember a particular scene where michael pate was driving along a v shaped road that was where target square shopping centre is now at ringwood.i used to live in ringwood in the 70s and they would always be filming around there.also around warrandyte and yarra glen i think.
@fedgax Yes around Warrendyte, Lilydale, Yarra Glen and Box Hill and I think a fair bit of bush filming up towards Warburton area. Yarra Glen Airport was the airport where all the 'airport' getaways were filmed where the cop car takes on the plane on the airstrip etc...Box Hill Hospital was Matlock Hospital and Lilydale Hotel was the Matlock Pub...
@cam068 .Mainly Healesville and some Warburton hospitals were shot for "Matlock Hospital"scenes, with Lilydale Crown and Olinda hotels and occasionally "The White Dog" as the "Matlock Pub. They're all still there today minus Warby hospital.
Great theme from a classic Australian cop show. My understanding is that Crawfords still own the rights to this show. I wrote to them earlier this year to ask if they had plans to release it on DVD. Unfortunately, the answer was no. Maybe if a few more people contacted them, they might change their mind.
I find Crawfords are very stubborn when it comes for request to release TV shows on to DVD. They just don't seem interested. And yet they are sitting on a gold mine of TV shows which would make money for them. Apart from the conversion on to DVD it would cost them very little to put these shows on to DVD.
Great to see the show still enjoys a following. Really enjoyed doing the show. best years of my life. Many thanks for your kind words. Win TV own the rights and I don't think they will put it out on DVD for some time. Sad to see the passing of Mike Pate great guy wonderful actor.
Yes, great show -- never miss it. Tape it every Tuesday morning (now at 0130 hours), and we enjoy watching it on Tuesday nights. And the icing on the cake is that we now have Digital TV so we can see it in the best quality possible (analogue TV reception is pretty hopeless here).
I'd also love to get some of these early Aussie Police shows on DVD.We don't seem to be as marketable and business minded like the U.S where you can buy most old tv Series on DVD.
Pity some of the early Homicide was shot on Black and White videotape that has deterioted
beyond saving. The filmed stuff is in good nick I just wish we had colour the same time the U.S did.But I'd like to see these old shows just the same.
The problem is the Nine Network doesn't own Win. How ever WIN does have shares in the Ten Network. With a bit of luck Win will do a take over of Ten and we get Matlock. It would be good if Win launched a digital channel around Australia with all the old shows.
As far as i know it isn't available on DVD. I emailed CP about a year ago. And they said they were looking at putting shows on DVD. But so far no TV shows from CP have been released.
Please email Crawfords and request Matlock Police be put on DVD. The more people do this the more chances CP will do a release if they know people are interested.
Yes I'll second that. Come on somebody, I am sick of having to drive up to Echuca on Tuesday nights and book into a motel just to watch this bloody show at 2am!!!!
rest in peace vic gordon and micheal pate ,I will never forget you great australian actors . and the rest of the great actors and actresess of that era what a wonderful legacy you gave to australian television. hey when I meat you guys in heaven we,ll go cruising in my charger.
man just look at those mint valiants , dude I got 15 of them here in Ocean grove , and yeah I agree with that other dude bloody bring back these awesome aussie cops shows there the best and thats coming from crazy wog who loves his VALS.
Paul Cronin finished on 3AW last night after 10 years as fill-in co-host for Nightline and at midnight they played this, then the themes from Solo One and the Sullivans. Can't beat that lot!
Hey terrific video of a great show. I remember watching it as a kid on Channel 10 in Adelaide in the mid to late 70s. Any chance of getting the other intro (with Vic Gordon pointing to his watch). BTW Michael Pate, no oil painting, but what a seriously cool bloke.
It's a sad day today,Michael Pate was a great actor.I think Australia has produced some of the best shows ever.I know Hector Crawford would not let anything pass by him if it wasn't quality.Perhaps if not for our inferiority complex as a nation, more of the world would have seen these great shows! R.I.P. Michael, you'll not be forgotten!
Why doesn't the Nine network doesn't join WIN and rescreen Crawford shows especially Matlock Police. Seven would still have rights to Homicide!!! Come on guys let Australia enjoy these great shows again, even in the early hours of the morning - beats NBC Today or ABC GMA
Matlock Police was without a doubt the best Australian TV cop show from the 1970's i am 44 & remember fondly staying up to watch the show each week. I have seen some colour episodes in recent years but no B7W episodes since I was a teen. I'd love to but a box set of thje series but crawfords havent realeased ANY as of June 2008. Why i don't know, I'm sure there is a good DVD market for matlock Police & other Crawfords shows like Homicide Division 4 & others. Common Crawfords get them out!!
Possibly but Matlock with Andy Griffith had no relationship to Matlock Police other then the title. I don't recall the show ever being on back to back but it may have been done somewhere at sometime. Matlock was fair but Matlock Police was a great Aussie show.
Matlock Police is currently being repeated on Channel 9 on Monday nights (Tuesday mornings) at 2.30am. Worth setting the video/PVR for. I'm loving it.
Thank you so much for posting this. I used to love watching this show when growing up in Australia, and those famous, and need I say great, Crawford themes were memorable.

Really great to read your comments.
All us viewers has very fond memories of Matlock Police.
Could you possibly solve a mystery for all us avid fans - where was the servo they used for scenes of
" Tony's Garage" filmed?
That one really keeps us guessing even now !
Massive Matlock Police fan.

I'm a bit slow with my comments but you are correct - WIN Corporation owns the rights to Matlock Police since it also owns Crawford Productions.
