I had one of the normal D-tectors the blue and white one and eventually traded it to a friend for the D-terminal he had. Have no clue where the D-terminal is now. All I have left is my season 1 digivice but sadly it died a while ago.

I'm lucky, I have a Takuya D-Tector and a Davis D-3! I got both used, separably, for $20 each. And yes, that's a good price. I would say D-Tector is better, there's more to do. But the best Digivice is the Mega Burst, and it's not that rare. Get it, for sure. By the way, I get my Digivolvers and Digivices at eBay. Go there for them, that's the only place where good prices on them can be found. By the way, look at the picture carefully. My D-Tector says it's connected with my D-3, but D-3 isn't!

while you are fighting you can click a botom called digivolve

You need to destroy the control spires before you can digivolve. At least, if you're refering to the D-3.
