Sax Quartet SATB

I don't like the way the Alto Sax tried to add a jazzy insert to the melody on Something Doing. To me, It sounded god awful. Ragtime and Jazz are two different things in my opinion, but that may just be me.

movements were in the wrong order but didnt sound band for a high school quartet, my college level quartet is playing the same song and its not simple

I was at the performance and being the father of one of the performers, I thought it sounded great. Some of you are a little tough in expressing your opinions but after playing music for most of my life, I can say that very few highschool student are great musicians and not many are even good. It is the love and passion for both the music and the instrument along with time that makes a great musician.

my evaluation is that the tenor player wasnt playing loud enough, the alto sax player has bad tone but had some catchy parts, the soprano players is decent in technique but his pitch could be better, the bari player cant count at all but had a nice eighth note run....i loved the time at around 4:40 where the alto plays the swinged lines and the soprano player answers it with scalar arpeggios going up and then down...it sounds so awesome lol

i agree with asianarcane...i mean even at parts where the soprano player isnt even playing like at 1:20...that was completely off beat and everything and HE wasnt even playing....so that proves he had nothing to do with them sounding like shit and cant keep tempo...they couldnt even keep tempo when he wasnt playing so it wasnt the fact he was rushing....his tempo actually seemed like a light, decent tempo for the piece

well you may very well be right that he should have slowed down to accommodate the others' lack of competence, the fact remains that he showed proficient technique, especially in the very beginning of the video...and the fact that he kept tempo while doing those runs and they cant even keep tempo with eigth notes i think its wrong for you to say he ruined it...in plus, he is definitely the strongest player here, and in my book, the strongest player gets to call the shots in these situations =)

at first i was going to disagree with you guys and say that the soprano player was the bad player because he couldnt keep tempo and kept rushing...but as it progressed, i realized that he actually had a consistent tempo throughout and it just so happens that the other 3 were falling behind because they cant play fast....however, the sop player should have slowed down with them no matter how right he thinks he is....some people just have to ruin it for everybody

let this be a lesson to all talented musicians...NEVER do business/gigs with people who dont play up to your standards, even if they are your friends!! however, i have no pity on the soprano player...he was the dumbass who agreed to perform with these sleavebags

i totally agree dude...its pretty obvious who is pulling ALL the weight in this quartet...i play trumpet, but it doesn't take a genius to know this. the bari wasnt too bad either though.
