Nice style but why do they allow experienced fighters paired-up with novices ? Most knockouts of this clip seemed inevitable from the very first moments featured, just from the way each contestant was moving.
I don't really understand this style. In some parts it seems it's semi-contact, while in others is full contact. Also, I find it a bit slow as compared to taekwondo
Did anyone find a single atom of SABAKI in the vid? The kumite is very much like original kyokushin. I can't find anything that distinguishes both 'styles'.
it is simple..in kyokushin and ashihara karate you can't punch in face but you can kick him where you want...in kyokushin you can punch everywhere except in head...
what s the difference between kyokushin karate and ashihara karate and shidokan karate, well shidokan is more like full contact karate right?but kyokushin and ashihara?do they have the same rules ??
Hard to describe everything in the short space allowed here, but simplified, the difference between shidokan rules and kyokushin rules is that shido uses a boxingring and allow a 3 second clinch -kyoku bans all grabbing and holding.
The difference between kyoku and ashihara is that ashihara allows some onehanded grabs and pullin (mostly as throws), but this is no longer allowed in kyokushin.
Otherwise both shidokan and kyokushin still use the rules they inherited from their kyokushin roots
in Shidokan bareknuckle fight there's also 5 second ground fight mostly for one pining technique after throw and undercuts which also were banned in kyokushin. Best Regards
Shidokan is a modern full style with arsenal of all techniques, it includes bareknuckle fight, kickboxing/muay thai strikes and grabs and submission/grappling/mma methods.
People who complain about space helmets or other protective taking away the "reality" of fighting because people don't get hurt are keyboard warriors.
When you wear protective gear you can fight hard more often without injuring yourself, which means you improve faster.
As far as competition goes, it's not pro-sports. If you want bareknuckle/4 oz glove face punches, then give them a pro's salary. This is meant to be practiced by regular ppl who have to show up to work on Monday.
I think Ryu and Ken's style is non existent. I've never seen a Karate style teaching Hadouken(its a freaking fireball) or Shoryuken movements. Taekwando has a very similar 720 Kick that looks like the spinning flying kick though.
Ryu himself was based on a Kyokushin fighter named Yoshiji Soeno, who travelled to Thailand to fight a guy named Reiba, the "Dark Lord of Muay Thai", who Sagat is based upon. Soeno later went on to be the founder of Shidokan Karate. I think that's what he meant.
i also prectice ashihara i am currently at the yellow belt with 1 green stripe but i am the best at the "brazilian" shot (thats only how WE call it) its a fakey it looks like first you hit the oponent in the stomac with the leg and sudenly you change the shot in a mawashi so it goes in the head.
But, the thing is that takes away sense of reality because they don't get hurt. In Shidokan they fight in bare knuckle knockdown rules, kickboxing rules, and mma rules.
Let me analyze the styles. Daido Juku karate is with out doubt one of the best styles of karate. Almost everything is allowed. Elbows, headbutts, groin shots, takedowns, etcet. which means that the fighters train for real fighting. The thing is that the space helmets reduce the impact of strikes and protect the face from cuts, bruises, etcet. Which than means that the fighters are not afaid of getting hit in the face because they are protected. They also wear special cups if i'm correct.
That is why they also got kickboxing rules that are similar to Muay Thai. Everything is allowed except biting, scratching, elbows, groin shots, and rabbit punches.
This makes you get used to face punches. Than mma rules with no space helmets. Thus, it makes the karateka much more familiar with real fighting.
With all that protection it takes away realistic fighting. In real fights you are not going to be wearing a space helmet and a cup. In the other hand Shidokan karatekas practice in three settings. Bare knuckle knockdown rules, kickboxing rules and mma rules. In bare knuckle rules pulling your opponents head down is completely legal, takedowns and submissions are legal too. Bare knuckle fights create stamina and strenght, but punches to the head are not allowed.
I take it this is full contact but no punches to the face only knees? are elbows allowed , I have a non contact tourny coming up and I know it wont be like this but what am I to expect and is it as fast paced as this could someone give me some advice cheers
Knockdown karate allows kicks and knees to the head. Elbows are allowed, but counts as punches, and as such are not allowed to the head -only below the neck.
Cant help you with the non-contact tourney since you dont specify what rules they are under,. But it wont resemble knockdown karate (ashihara, kyokushin etc) much, since that is most definitely NOT "no-contact".
butr as a rule no-contact fights are a game of tag to see who hit first with a light touch -not very similar to knockdown at all
not really fair fights some a red belt vs a yellow belt / white belt?? having said that some of the white/ yellow belts were pretty good , I practice Karate but have done various martial arts I find Karate to be the most rewarding, Alot of technique goes into the moves.

@SMBRANDT Two different arts, and not one is better than the other. You've failed in your Martial art training if your opinion is as you write. All in all, it all depends on the Martial Artist.
