Hi there, the BBC World Book Club are thrilled to have the Israeli author David Grossman answering questions about To the End of the Land. It will be recorded on 5th October at Bush House in London. Send questions to worldbookclub@bbc.co.uk or post them here. Thanks!
I would ask if you see noble leadership among fundamental suicide bombers and their state sponsored manipulators,. bent on perpetuating violence even as it destroys the fabric of their society.
Really, would that there was a peaceful resolution of the two people's claims upon the thin strip of land called Israel. But first both sides have to seriously consider compromise; as of now there is no sign of that happening on the part of our Arab brothers.
I raise my hat in tribute to a wonderful humanist who is also a bereaved father. Sad that those who commit their lives to the pursuit of peace should have to suffer at the hands of barbarous ignorant followers of corrupt Hezbollah and Hamas leaders.
Hamas because of Israel's massive overt support for fanatical Islamists to undermine the political Islamic movements;
and Hezbollah because of its invasion in 1982 of Lebanons and subsequent incursions, raids, terrorism against the Lebanese population, etc.
Populations don't sit idly by when there is state terrorism launched against them, so if you want to know where Hezbollah and Hamas got their start, look no further than the noble leadership of Israel.
well said, mgm8822. political ideologues use religious discourse to justify and reify their goals. israel has used religious fundamentalists and also poor people who want to take advantage of subsidized housing to be on the front lines of de facto annexing the natural resources in the west bank it wants. grossman should focus less on superficial notions of islam produced by national security discourses.
Smellyllally, you may want to listen to what Grossman actually says in the video.He never said Samson was born to die for Israel.Try and listen before correcting " this guy" who knows more than you do it seems.Moreover the video is not the full version of the interview.
Samson was not born to die for Isreal. He was promised to his parents as someone special. But never to die. His death was his own fault because he was warned never to divulge the secrets of where he gets his strength to anyone. This guy should try reading the bible.
i couldn't disagree more with grossman. the problems he talks about are mostly political in nature. sure, israeli settlers are by and large religious fanatics. but the reason for israel's land grabs are not religious in nature; the government of israel wants precious land and water resources in gaza and the west bank. likewise, we shouldn't forget the political reasons for palestinian suicide bombers, although religion does play a part it is secondary to politics.

If a man is standing on your neck, the first step toward compromise is removing the foot. When Israel does that, maybe compromise can occur.
Israel has just as many if not more hardliners than the Arab and Islamic people around it.

Both of which were created by Israel.
Hamas because of Israel's massive overt support for fanatical Islamists to undermine the political Islamic movements;
and Hezbollah because of its invasion in 1982 of Lebanons and subsequent incursions, raids, terrorism against the Lebanese population, etc.
Populations don't sit idly by when there is state terrorism launched against them, so if you want to know where Hezbollah and Hamas got their start, look no further than the noble leadership of Israel.
