best Jimmy & The Boys memory?? easy Bombay Rock gig Brunswick..Ignatius was hilarious..i remember he had this unusual shaped rubber plunger somehow attached to his stomach and he was doing something with it with his lips hehe seeing Joylene on keys was enough for the admission price..great band lots of fun..thanks for the post nz as per your usual high standards..
I love Tim Finn, and am happy he was doing some writing for this lad here, but did we need to see the extended crotch shots of this singer in this video? LOL I mean really man!
And I think they won't let his girlfriend talk to him, because he stole her makeup and applied it so hastily. :D
@creatornat ha ha ha ha ha; there's a million and one things I could say about Ignatious Jones (the singer here). He also had a minor international hit with 'Like A Ghost' the following year. These days he is a well-respected art-director in Sydney - most popular for his work at the New Year's Eve Sydney Habour Fireworks (can be found all over youtube). Instead of being institutionalised, he's become an institution...
@nzoz1981 ..Thanks for the quick reply noz1981. :)
Thanks for the info, these lads are actually new to me in the states. Been enjoying digging into youtube for all the tunes I may have missed. Thanks for the added info on Ignatious, really interesting...and I still think Tim looks better in makeup. :)
@creatornat oh, of course... but Iggy looked better in leather and gaffer-tape. Today, Iggy looks closer to an ageing Rober Di Nero than frankenfurter. These guys were an interesting band. If you type 'Jimmy & The Boys NZOZ', you'll see all the clips I've uploaded of them. Also, check out Ignatius Jones' 'Like A Ghost' (for something you might recognise). Thanx for commenting!
I'm ecstatic that this is here! I've always found it curious that Tim Finn didn't like this take on the song. If Split Enz had recorded this in the late 70's, this is exactly how I would have expected it to sound.
yeah "the other enz "its not bad they could have done without all the live stuff all the off shoot studio stuff is cool BUT MY ALL TIME FAVE IS FRENZY A&M VERSION!!!!!!!! of the enz
I am most certainly NOT imagining anything of that sort.. i'll explain at a later time where I came up with my rather crass analysis - please forgive if I offended anyone.. was not my intention..

Has to be one of the best LIVE bands I saw through the pub band era of the late 70's & 80's. Saw them every opportunity I could - sigh.....The good old Sundowner Hotel and the Bexley North Hotel and The Boulevarde were just a few of the great venues..
Another forgotten classic Aussie pop/rock hit from the Countdown era. Amazing how Ignatius Jones has changed his artistic persona these last 20 odd years...and if you catch him at the Countdown Spectacular you'll see he hasn't lost that manic uniqueness.
i was in ozz in 1981 ,on a working holiday visas ,from manchester uk i was 23 at the time still one of my classics ,i'm now 49 ! also remember donny sutherland show .and a segment called joylenes address to the nation ,was ignatius the same person ?
ha ha, Ignatius Jones and Joylene Hairmouth were two different people but in same band. Iggy is now director of the New Year's Eve fire works display in Sydney (and other organisations)
wow memories, the juke box at the local pub and only two of us ever paid money to hear this song, if it came on i knew he was there and he knew i was there, thanks for sharing
lmao , how true is that about Rage ! ..absolute alternative crap these days chosen by freaky host's who look completely smashed off their face ! the clip choices prove it
I love it, I love it, So many memories. I had this on a compilation cassette many moons ago and I never tire of listening to it, I am a mother of 2 and trust me I would listen to this music than whaqt my teen daughter listens to,
Ah yes, Jimmy and the boys at the Manzal while on mandies...they were the days...

You won't get any better music in Australia again than what was around in the 80s. Sylvania and Caringbah pubs. It can't be repeated.
