It's really not about the speed, it's about the flow and complex rhymes. Rapping fast isn't really that impressive these days, crazy flow and complex rhyme schemes are far more interesting to most people, since the fastest raps are inaudible without reading the lyrics anyways, and rap is about lyrics more then anything else.
