President Carter got the peace prize too. You know Obama was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize twelve days after taking office. Upon acceptance of winning it, Obama was praised by the committee, "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy". . They also gave the peace prize to Yasser Arafat, the leader of the PLO, the best known terrorist organization on the globe. This is like giving it to David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the KKK.

the big picture is: Burma is China's future oil pipe line and easy exit to the Indian Ocean. It is a strategically important country for China, India and US to some extend. China wants a stable and pro-China government to secure its oil supply, while US wants a pro-west government to put a foot print next to China, fearing the rise of the Asian giant. The UN has been trying many times to help the people of Burma, but it cannot do so because everytime they try to send (example) humanitarian aid to Burma, China always vetoes it. (They can veto it because China is a member of the Security Council) Why? With all due respect to the Chinese people, because China is the no.1 sender of ammunition to the Burmese junta, which they use to make violence all over the country.

If India sours its relation with military regime in Burma, then it would be surrounded by another hostile neighbour.
