  • Can you support the claim that Australia "cannot afford the present excessive military spending" (28sec).

  • Gud won gais

  • "We face no serious military threat" - says it all. What a waste to spend all that money on the 'joint strike fighter'! Definitely time to cut military spending! I agree with AABCC.

  • Thanks to the Anti-bases campaign for this. It is terrific to have someone highlight the need for social spending over military.

  • The government of New Zealand recognises that they are under no serious military threat and their defense budget and lower tax dollars devoted to the military shows this. Is Australia under so much more of a military threat then NZ? Really?

Time for the Australian government and people to develop an INDEPENDENT AUSTRALIAN foreign policy, more than simply kneejerk, unqestioning obedience to the US.

  • Bite the bullet!

Plus please fix the bill and ban cluster bombs properly. Don't allow so many loopholes that creates a night mare if prohibited activities take place and end up in court. Money could be spent much more wisely.

  • I hope this campaign leads to a different focus in our society away from military excess to more money spent on essential services.

  • Absolutely, peacebreather! As a veteran member of Pax Christi Australia, , I fully support your proposal. I'll contact PCA convenor Claude Mostowik (who makes an appearance in the video above), to discuss an action plan.

  • we should embed in our constitution that 'defence' is to defend the country, and never for imperial expeditions

  • Great initiative! Imagine if Australia invested more resources on innovative Youth Peace Education Projects? I believe Australia really needs a new Ministry or Department for Peace to add balance and be a voice for Peace and nonviolent conflict management in the Australian parliament. Promoting a future culture of peace is more in the national interest than continually rehearsing for tragic wars.

  • Dear Tony Abbott,

In November 2009, you refused to support Malcolm Turnbull's emissions trading scheme, and you resigned from his front bench 'on principle'.

Yet, as an influential political leader and committed Catholic, you fail to question Australia's 'defence' budget, a sum that far exceeds Australia's real needs. In reality - as you would be aware - this outrageous budget is largely for weapons that support Western control of oil and other resources.

    What happened to your principles?

  • Schools, hospitals, food, renewables... not bombs! Great campaign.

  • Americans have been brainwashed ......... they actually believe that terrorists attacked the WORLD TRADE CENTER. if only they knew that the military-industrial complex was responsible . There is a hidden agenda that most citizens do not understand here in AMERICA. Good for you, AUSTRALIA, you are more informed !! Get rid of the corrupt politicians & corporations that make profits from war via your tax dollars.

  • GOOD FOR YOU, AUSTRALIA ! It's all a hoax, WAR on TERROR is a hoax by the MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX to bleed the taxpayer dry so they can make profits. AUSTRALIA is well ahead of the U.S. in speaking out on this matter. BUSH CRIME PRESIDENT / CHENEY CRIME V.P. ......... 9 / 11, they knew about it before it ever happened.

  • I can only think of the prosperity of the nation if it were to spend it on education and other productive and less destructive means. Thank you so much for posting this and bringing it to the attention of the public. Many more people need to know about this!

  • Good on ABCC for the message. Someone has to say it - people are suffering in more ways than one as a result of this obscene military spending.

  • Excellent video and great message. Would be great if it went viral.

  • Time to fund schools not bombs

  • Hope to see similar civil society action in top ten most militarized nations! Every dollar spend on military instead of mutual civil society dialogue is a theft from our children and the future of palanet and people.

  • I agree, our military spending is outrageous

  • Brilliant video and effort campaign to force the Australian government to cut the excessive military budget. Lets protect our future by sharing this video among

your friends and relatives. SPEAK OUT NOW!

  • It is about time Australians worked to cut military spending
