half an hour into the match and Nole was already breaking raquets! God i miss this Nadal... One can only hope that this sunday they can both play their best..
also, if theres one thing i have to say its that the us open is more enjoyable to watch. the rallies tend to be longer and therefore i find harder to predict who can win a point. wimbledon just doesnt match that unpredictability
for me, this match was so exciting. soo many unbelievable shots, and its always great to watch. personally, i still think nadal is the best in the world just because his style is my favourite (that forehand is godly). but djokovic proved today against murray that he is simply amazing, and just cant go down at almost all cost.
@polychronio exactly. Truth be told Nadal had a very good 2011, he won the French, and he was in the finals of Wimbledon and the US open. Djokovic however happened to have one of the greatest seasons in men's tennis history.
@fcpaokara I have seen I lot of times 2011 Djokovic beated easily 2011 Nadal, then Nadal improve in little aspects in 2010 then Novak would have win 2010 Nadal but it would be more difficult for him I am sure of that
@cortadew I disagree.i see nadal last year and he had made extremely forehands.this year he has not confidence in his hand, and when play with nole,he had a lot of hang
The reason for this is not something mystical alaster488 it's simply his style of play means there's a dip, unfortunately this time he played just as much as Novak, he just didn't win
@cortadew I wouldn't be so sure. Nadal 1st serve speed avg was over 120 mph. He was hitting a lot of winners with his forehand and backhand, things that he's not doing anymore.
2010 Nadal vs 2011 Djokovic could be a really exciting match and is hard to conclude wich one would win.
@MattyOyola21 hahahah. I think Nadal looks a little quicker here but how much better has Djokovic got since this match? He didn't look that bad in this match either!
Nadal is a transvestite, he takes peforming enhancing drugs, he picks his ass before every point, he keeps lifting his right eyebrow as he talks during interviews, he make annoying gruts as he hits the ball, he makes a show of false humility during every interview, when really he's arrogant and vain beyond belief, he cant lose a match without faining injury. Federer, Djokovic for the US Open ... anyone but Nadal!! ...Hopefully Federer, Would love to see THE GREATEST PLAYER EVER win a 17th major
Nadal could beat Novak at USO 2010 because of his serve.Nadal's serve was just unbelievable last year. When you serve well, you put a lot of pressure on your opponent's service game.So If Nadal want to beat Novak again, he has to rediscover his serve and play more aggressive, come to the net more often. That's the only way to beat Novak right now.
@blackknight126 I 150% agree with you mate. Nadal's serve is pretty nonreturnable at US open last year. Like always, the champion in US open has to be a great server. Nadal ain't an exception. If he does it again this year, he'll have his 2nd crown in NY
@KaminariKatta I agree with you as well. If I have one advice to Nadal this year. He should be breaking down novak's forehand more. Novak's backhand is really solid this year especially against the high bouncing nadal forehand
@atdream105 your right.if im correct,in the miami match this year,
The commentator said something about nadal setting up a winner by hitting a big shot to the djokovic forehand.i then began to realize what was really happening.
In this match.
We see:.Djokovic playing defensively, trying to get his forehand into the game, hitting bh DTL so that rafa sends his bh CC to his forehand.Rafa countered this by slicing down the line, inside in forehand, pinning djok to his bh side then a winner on the fh.
Open Hardcourts, not to say Nadal IS NOT a shoo-in for at least the Semis, but I think it will either be Nole, Federer, or the not so much of a dark horse Juan Martin Del Potro (at 100% health)
This Djokovic is half of what he is now.... Nadal got lucky he faced a no name in the Semi-Final that I guarantee no one remembers anymore (without wikipedia assistance). Added with the fact that Djokovic had the late afternoon Saturday Semi-Final with Federer aka the GOAT, which turned out to be a classic 5 setter. Since he is 5-0 v. Nadal this year I don't see Rafa repeating or ever winning this title again, it's his worst Grand Slam, because these hardcourts are quicker than the Australian
@365to173repubsPWNED haha well i wouldnt go that far, but Rafas body wont be able to take this strain in 2-3 years.... He will probably win a couple-three more Frenchys and maybe a Wimby again, but I dont see it on hardcourts again at all.... Nadal is still the 2nd greatest player ever, I just really want Roger to stay at the top hahahaaa
@LegendKiller0084 .....erm, I would just like to say (and this is absolutely without wiki), he faced youznhy (though that may be the wrong spelling), who actually has a pretty decent h2h against nadal. Probably because he just has the sexiest back hand, plus it wasnt youznhys first US open semi (lost to roddick in 06). I'm not disagreeing with the standard of rafas opponent last year, just saying that there will be absolutely loads of true tennis fans that will be able to tell you who rafa faced
@Peaches1822 The TRUE tennis fans will be able to tell you lots of things that isnt common knowledge, thats what makes them true fans..... I consider myself to be a true fan, I remember the Mikhail Youzhny match, he just didn't bring anythign close to top level against Rafa to be honest with you.... But my point, more than anything is, Rafa was on a mission last year, and that circumstances were in his corner almost throughout the Open, losing a total of 1 set....
@LegendKiller0084 like i said, I wasn't disagreeing with the comment, just about the wiki part where I imagine quite a few people would have been able to tell you who he faced
@LegendKiller0084 idk of any youtube videos discussing the 2011 US Open yet, but I saw a little of the draw on ESPN yesterday, and I just smiled when they put Roger on the same half as Nole, (Putting Murray with Rafa of course)....... I hope we get the dream Semi-final like it did at the French, except this time it would be more interesting, because none of the 4 guys are weak on hard courts the way Murray is on clay......But im looking too far ahead, and i can message u a link of the draw
Nadal took so much dope to win this tournament that it was impossible for djokovic to beat him!! nole played one of his best tournaments till then and nearly didn't take a set from him!
@Rafathaman94 Rafa in the early was a pusher as he would just loop the ball back. But he has now developed a more attacking game and this has led to a decline in his clay game. To state that Rafa is merely a pusher is wide of the mark now.
@deadlyboss01 True, but problem with Nadal lately is that he is not adapting to a way Djokovic is playing. Obviously he has to change something... For example Federer is trying different tactics when playing against Novak where Nadal sticks to his only way of play, which is a definition of insanity "doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results"
@dulisha I agree that he will not beat Nole by simply grinding. He can beat 95% of the tour with his normal game. He definitely needs to find a PLAN B. Federer tries play very fast and slow, mix up pace with his slice shots or Murray attempts to bring Nole's level down with his unusual game. Too bad Rafa can't play like federer.............. he needs to improve his poor backhand, hit more flat forehands, avoid long rallies as Djoker will eventually breakdown Rafa's strokes.
Nadal is lucky to have faced the old Djokovic in the final. Also are we going to see the mysterious Nadal serve in the US open to disappear for another year? For Rafa to win he needs a very favourable draw and tired opponent in the final like last year.
@Rafathaman94 Thats a fine line matey. If that's what your going to be like well than how exactly is anyone going to admit to being a pusher or any fan??? Nadal never hit the ball that on the run he get elevation and depth on it sure as for top spin... quite frankly he'll impart some but the juries out on that being skill or chasing down technique.
@Rafathaman94 Say what!? how is that not pushing...are you trying to say that every time he is chasing down the ball that its not in the middle of the court? Nadal more of a pusher than you think mate. Sure he has grit and determination I respect that and applaud it as its by no means an easy thing to do. He does it way more than he should, pick your moments. I never doubt Nadal in much other than his longevity.
@Rafathaman94 yes he is. he runs every ball down and just loops it back, occasionally going for winners. that's as close to pushing as you can get in the pros.
In my opinion this is the best tournament that Rafael Nadal hast played in his career, noone was able to challenge him and he lost his serve only twice (!!) before the final. But the the streak of Djokvic began..
Obviously Rafa was on the continuous heat of both French and English Open but after seeing Wimbledon final 2011, you can notice the toughness of Đoković in crucial points et how he beats the ball hard was already there and that is mental was inferior to Nadal's fighting spirit. Thus I'll say that Rafa was reaching his top level while Nole was still climbing the steps and for instance, the Serbinator's nowadays level is even greater than King Rafa's one. Both great champs of the new generation !
rafa played the best tennis of his life in this tournament. His worst surface is hard court and he played in New York like he was at the french open not losing a set until the final, which is crazy for a guy that lost the previous year 2,2,2.
@hattrickster33 With all the rain delays, the final being pushed back a day, then rain interrupting the final at the end of the second set, I'm truly surprised anybody stayed around to deal w/ any of that nonsense. The weather was terrible that week, but the tennis facilities are worse by far. The USO desperately need a roof.

I never doubt Nadal in much other than his longevity.

nadal was hitting the ball so fucking hard
anismessi 7 months ago
@Rafathaman94 yes he is. he runs every ball down and just loops it back, occasionally going for winners. that's as close to pushing as you can get in the pros.

In my opinion this is the best tournament that Rafael Nadal hast played in his career, noone was able to challenge him and he lost his serve only twice (!!) before the final. But the the streak of Djokvic began..
splash2011UPLOAD 8 months ago
@splash2011UPLOAD LOL he played against mugs the whole tournament....This US Open was a joke for him

As Nadal is a defensive player, you need to to hit your targets to beat him, just what djokovic is able to do very well.....! Nole > Rafa
jackmeskin 8 months ago

Bdubbs09 8 months ago
i think nadal's a bit ignorant. he kept hitting to nole's backhand as he would do to federer but novak's backhand is better than his forehand...

@unioncity no novak just hit his targets too well. thats how you have to beat pushers.

Djokovic's forehand is so much better, then his backhand!
mikolaj9933 9 months ago
@mikolaj9933 i think thats normal for every tennis player, that why nadal tries so much to utilize his forehand...
ThePacemaker45 9 months ago
@ThePacemaker45 Well, Nadals backhand is better then his forehand, so not always.
mikolaj9933 9 months ago
@mikolaj9933
Are you new to tennis or something? Nadal's forehand is his best shot.
