talking to a ham radio operator in California, he said he was in the audience of this show.. when Lena came out, a feeling came over him that he was in the present of someone special that comes along only once in a century. as for me, it was hard to believe the perfect timing with the band she had at her age. her dad must have been one heck of a teacher. her spirit still lives.

I could'nt belive that she could interpret the song so billiantly, just a child of 10. I was attracted by her.  Just got from discussion forum that she passed away from the anorexia. Silva Dee and Arthur Kent wrote the song. The late Skeeter Davis recorded the original hit version in 1962, I think.

I've noticed that in other videos I've seen of her singing even in later years that many times she looks like she's crying.

I agree about the age though. Makes you wonder if that's what lead to Anorexia at such an early age. A lot of things can lead to it.

I had a first cousin that suffered from it for 6 years. A lot of it came from her Dad never being around since he has always been such a workaholic. At least that was one of the conclusions her psychiatrists came to.

Many here in the UK still keep a place in our heart, for the 'little girl with the big voice' who brought joy to millions. Lena was such a gentle soul, who despite suffering greatly in life was always gracious and dignified. If bugg53 had a better understanding of talent, adversity and decorum, and had bugg53 known that, when Lena was just a teenager, her "mummy" was the victim of a vicious rape. Then perhaps bugg53 might have formed a more rational 'opinion'.

Her life was far too intense, what with the pressures of a career and that obnoxious opportunistic manager of hers, beginning when she was only 10. Poor Lena was destined to an early and tragic end.

I find the beauty of this song/performance a bit creepy and lovely at the same time. The creepy is how tragic her life ultimately ended, and how such a pure, innocent, joyful, compassionate, sweet child could have had to grow up with that stupid, selfish agent when she was ONLY TEN!!!
