finally! a REAL demo of a REAL amp with out a bunch of shitty delay. would have liked to see a few different settings, but thank you so much for not using delay!
and people really are talking about alnico speakers don't sound good with jmt-45 amps????? great sound. thick and smooth and clear at the same time. and in no way harsh or muddy.
Juicy tone and fantastic playing. I appreciate the fact that you didn't clutter the signal chain with FX.( How on earth can listeners guage a rig's tone when they're hearing it with pedals?) Thanks!
I hear you. I love how someone will do an amp demo, and you see in the description "Marshall Vintage Modern with Boss DS-1, Boss Delay, MXR 10 Band EQ, and a Tube Screamer." If you can really play, you don't need effects.
It looks like he has this mic'd up with a condenser mic and a ribbon(?) mic. These will certainly pull out the treble and presence details. With an SM57 or similar dynamic mic, this would sound mellower and creamier. However, I think the tone here is fantastic. I always get phase cancellation with this kind of mic set up-must be a trick I'm missing.
I've had phase trouble in the past, as well. I've learned a few tricks for getting them in phase. Specifically: flip the phase on one mic and adjust until they cancel almost completely. Return the phase to normal and the mics will be in phase.
The one thing you can do in the box, is to zoom into both waveforms and align the transients, and just nudge one left or right until it 'pops' into place. Cheating from a purist standpoint, but you can stick mics where you want to get the best sound for each and phase align them later.
hey mr metroamp , what channel do you use on this vid ? and what about the same amp but with a greenback and a G12H30 ? or greenbacks... bass cone & lead cone mixed in the same cab ?
a hint of VOX flavor , and a great dose of marshall taste , creamy overdrive and so on but with some added "treble bite"... what would be amazing would be to have a greenback AND a gold alnico !
The Golds do have a unique high end chime. And do lean towards a Vox'ish sound. I want to also try a Gold and a G12H. These mix well since they have the same sensitivity rating. A G12M would be slightly drowned out by the more sensitive Gold.
sometimes yoou can get a reissue marshall plexi, an mod it, got less than one of these kits, but there metro kits are killer, nuthin resales like the real old plexi,s though..
I think it's the speakers, Alnicos are brighter than Keramics - with a pair of Celestion Greenbacks (the original BB speaker setup) the tone should be more creamy
yeah , i wonder the Alnico speakers sound too bright .perhaps tubes too . you know , tubes used to sound a lot darker 50 years ago .
so now ... we must think about removing brigt caps that used to be useful in the 60's and so on , because new tubes sound brighter i think . but , overall , i like this bluesbreaker , it sounds really cool , a lot more modern and bright ... but the crunch sounds creamy in the same time , i think in person it would sound real good .
Very nice tone there! Are you going to offer some 18watters in the fututre? If so I'd buy one straight away! I myself have an 18watter, love them a lot. I think the two of them have a similar tone really.
Cool, I've got a JTM45 clone I built and I was wondering....did you have a hard time trying to record it? I see some expensive mics, are they worth it? Did you do a lot of experimentation with mic placement? Did you use expensive pre-amps too? Did you record your backing track? I think it helps to show the guitarist playing too, it adds visual interest. Thanks
Royer R121 and Neumann M149 ? WOWWW !

nice playing and tone george. one question, what is phase and out of phase on mics? thanks.§'
budubum 2 years ago
When the sound from the amp reaches two microphones at slightly different times. i.e. one mic closer than the other.
The result is partial phase canceling between the signals, known as comb filtering.
