a sadly battle for the teutonics, but we do not forget that lithuan and poland were more than the german and also teutonic knights fought bravely :) i know that lot of peaple stay with the polands for a lot of reasons, but teutonics are the best :)
Poland king was sitting comfortably in his tent while our Grand Duke Vytautas was doing all the hard work commanding the army. Victory belongs to both nations but Jogaila's achievments are simply overestimated.
I see arguments about who was better, Lithuania or Poland, but the fact is they won this battle together. All along history, mostly, Lithuania and Poland were two countries in one. They were united.
I am a 4th generation american of baltic-german and lithuanian+latvian dna...happy 600th aniv. very beautiful movie!...the history of the teutonic knights is a very huge history subject of mine.!../ @ milwaukee usa
@tabsley its lithuanian-polish army victory..... and because the director was polish jogaila was in command but in fact vytautas was, jogaila even wasnt in the battle he, was just spectating
who cares, both were lithuanians werent they? It was our big victory but some lithuanians just can celebrete it together with us :/ the FACT before battle they meet in castle in Nowy Sącz and made tactic there together propably! there is not much that can be done when battle begins also The Crown of Poland And Grand Duchy of Lithuania unleashed similar ammount of troops this victory cant be more shared than it is now :) Long live Lithuania Long live Poland!
bigger?yes (but ask yourself why ;) ), more populated? Not really-Poland had around 1,800,000-2,500,000 ppl (different numbers from different historians) and Lithuania-around 300,000 Lithuanians and from 1,000,000 to 1,500,000 ppl of russ origin. Richer? In what aspect? Poland was feudal country for like 400 years, fully developed, christian etc, when Lithuania was just few steps from tribal fedration, so c'mon m8 ;)
actually, in VYtautas's times, ethnic lithuanians made at least 30% of GDL. That was in the territory between the Baltic and the Black sea. In those times, having control over such vast territories, that is not a small number now, is it :)
The battle was filmed quite properly. First attacked Liethuanian light forces, then Polish heavy knights smashed the enemy. During the battle King Jagiello comanded from the top of the hill, so he could observe the bettlefield. The film is based on the book written in XIX century, so it is not a document.
ahh you know the main armoured formations were polish as were most of troops? Poland was a much richer and populated country than lithuania at the time(and now too btw)
Poles and Lithuanians need to stop quarreling. This is in the past, it makes for interesting history. Both countries need to be united and NOT divided. There are more pressing issues in today's times that concern both countries. Both nations have outside threats to their sovereignties.
This is after book 'The Crusaders' by Sczienkiewicz , right? The book is great! Long live Matko and Zbishko from Bogdanjec and Jurand from Spihov (altought he died in book)!
Około 30-40% armii krzyżackiej stanowili pruscy Vitingenowie i rycerze polscy z Pomorza i Z.Dobrzyńskiej.
in the end of the video ..they putting down on ground ...under the polish King Jagellonec ..Bohemian ( Czech ) "flag"..two tails Lion of Bohemian Kingdon ? why is that ????
Forget the historical aspects everyone! this battle scene is just a short part of a movie, made after the Henryk Sienkiewicz novel: "Crusaders". It was written during "Positivism" period and the main task was to give hope to Polish nation, as Poland wasn't even on the map of Europe. And the film was made, when we had russians inside our boarders, so it had to be a big polish victory against western empires...:)
This movie isn't correct to history,Lithuanians made Teutonic Cavalry chase them leaving open main unit, this trick made a day to PoLLit army:)Nobody fled from a field
There is a Lithuanian project to make a new movie version of that battle. Ok, because for example, Lithuanians DIDNT ESCAPE from the field, just made eastern-traditional war trick. And probably they looked better (also Polish knights). But Lithuanians! Dont go to far with that movie! Dont prepare your false version: just 30% Poles on field, Lithuania with HEAVY cavalry enough good against Teitonic cavalry, and others....
it seems it is a Polish version of Grunwald :) historicly the real version is a bit different. But it is uniqual that two united kingdoms crushed unbeable army :)
"historicly the real version is a bit different". Yes you are right. During battle ther were lots of Czech mercenaries who fight with Smolensk Units. That saved Polish form beeing flanked. Main Part of Lithuanian contigent were "Russian language soldiers nor Lithuanians", but who care. Teutons lost not only battle but alo lost European support. Especialy after Constancie trial.

@worras2007 I know right this will be a good movie again ..... and thats a shame USA doesnt know how Poland was strong !! :D;D God Bless Poland and Lithuania
@worras2007 I disagree . I watched that movie since I was child and it is classic in history of polish cinema comparable to "Gone with the wind" in Hollywood. So it is not wise to try to make new version of legendary movie because it just cant be filmed any better
@worras2007 that's is for sure...specially while having world strong man champion, mariusz pudzianowski acting as a greatest polish knight, zawisza czarny(zawisza the black)...hehehe...it acually has happen...last year during 600-th anniversary reconstruction of the battle of tannenberg...
Short message for all fans of the teutonic's
They said that they are the knight's of god, but in fact they did horrible crimes, they killed women and children saying it's in name of god.
Its good that they got beaten, and punished for their crimes.
No other country had enough balls to fight them.
And if you say they are the best knight's, than you have to check the winged hussar.
