interesting how the majority of youtube comments i see very quickly lead to arguments. as if there is this deep desire inside us to tear each other down.
@SnakeDoctor33 what you say is very true but its human nature to compete against one another and always have a victor. Through out history for the longest time people are fighting to prove what, that they are right? for a material object that isn't worth thousands of human lives? and at time to focus at the problems that face us all can lead to another desire to tear each other down until one stands victorious. simply people are always at war its inevitable sadly
the video isnt about US soldiers fighting for freedom. its fact that Ho Chi Minh had 80% popularity in the entirety of Vietnam and that Diem was a brutal totalitarian.
instead the video is showing the tragic squandering of a generation of American youth and the destruction of a gentle people in a totally senseless war. the reasons that Americans believed they were sacrificing themselves for were not there, and thats just the awful truth. we already have since, but lets never allow it again.
it dosent matter what the song is about its a tribute. And its for the soliders who sacrificed thier lives for thier country . We are a powerful country and we will do anything to keep the freeworld safe. It might not always be right but this video is for the soliders. And stopping being so dramatic and saying it spoils the word freedom, your an ignorant peace of shit, trying to be a smartass, to people you dont even know.
Anyone can visit the wiki article about this song and see what it's about, that's not the point of youtube. If you're coming here for your information, you probably want to find another source. This is a fine interpretation of a beautiful song.
To those who disagree: there is a link called "Post a Video Response." Why don't you give it a try if you dislike tabrownjr's work.
Try to find a justification for U.S invading Viet-Nam and then you might realize that it was a deprivation of the Vietnamese people's Freedom to choose whatever ideology they might want to follow.
You spoil this beautiful song which is about Stephen Biko by relating it to that shameful war. You even spoil the meaning of the word Freedom.
considering that dave matthews is from south africa and there is a movie called cry freedom about south africa, steven biko, nelson mandela and the rest of the anti-apartheid movement i would say this is about south africa
this song isnt about vietnam though...its about south africa where dave mathews was born and raised. other than that, i liked the video. it was very original and calming.....5 STARS!
Great song,...great lyricks put together just makes it very fitting for this video. I think that's one of DMB's best track to date.

@herbplummer well said! We need to stop tearing each other down and focus on the real problems that face us all.

I think you did a GREAT job on this vid. Although the song was written with Biko in mind, your take captures the essence of the song,' Cry Freedom'

adding onto to the nagolultimate's comment, this song was actually written as a tribute to South African anti-apartheid activist Steven Biko's death.
