@cmnagy57 believe I saw somewhere that dark blue seems to be the one used by Paddy..could be wrong... I personally like royal blue. I think this is still in the developmental stage tho. There will be a few shows of The Deafhood Monologues this fall and hopefully more later as a fundraiser for Deafhood Foundation...and the Blue Ribbon Ceremony is in it..and we aim to distribute blue ribbons to audience... We all should use blue ribbons during the Intl Day of Deaf Ppl and Sign Languages in Sept.
in Austria, the Austrian Association of the Deaf chose turquoise color for this purpose. I believe, they chose it because no one else has chosen turquoise color for something yet.
I am afraid blue is already taken. If blue is to be the color, skyblue would be better.
Time out. I suggest we need to have a treaty for deafing society and hearing society to make a pact . So they - hearing would be bargaining and settle with us. We the people, have to work it out for the best of all nations and for our whole global altogether. I understand you so crystally! Yet, we can't abolish AVT away from anybody whom are hard of hearings. By the way, I'm not hard of hearing but total transparently! I heart you, Dr. P. Ladd, and especially beyond, too! ; ) ~ WS ~
@Willowspinners Agree about continuing to work with others to abolish audism and any ban on signed languages...which unfortunately AVT is about. And why do you think hard of hearing benefit from AVT and not a natural signed language? another question -- what is your definition of "hard of hearing"? I sure have not seen any clear one...many conflicting ones....I have my thoughts on this, but wanna see yours.
I wonder what cause the deaf people being crippled in 1880s when the oralists and its allies made the push? How can we learn from this history and fight a battle better in 2010 and forth on.
@TheSterlingJOe Very good question. I've thought about it a good amount too. I have my theories and believe they've been explored to some point in various literature. I believe they fought hard. But must be combinations of several things incl Bells influence via telephone, eugenics movt, wars, and womens movt. More discuss pls.
I see you mentioned MARKET .. it is their right to advertise about oralist. BUT .. they are sick, and full of lies. What should we do? It is our responsibilities to market about ASL, with truth and good hard evidence. I.E.: why don't we publish on the newpapers? Making the brochures and placing them in the doctor offices, etc. AND .. what about BILLBOARD on the US Interstates? Right, it is not cheap .. but we can set up the ASL Media Fund. I am just making up the name, but that's an idea.
@rachadw It's POSSIBLE that it's right to advertise, BUT they must be held liable for false advertising, just like snake oil salesman...when people realize and find out they ve been marketing falsehoods and causing serious damages to CHILDREN and BABIES and a whole culture and language....then yes they must be held liable and their marketing declared as FRAUD and dangerous.
@rachadw Marketing ASL-oh yes believe me THEY who are not working in field of CURING deafness has already grabbed the largest pool of money from ASL, leaving Deaf people with small share. Look at these: Sorenson VRS and other VRS run by hearing people, the interpreter agencies run by hearing people, ASL teachers...many many hearing teachers especially in high schools, signing for babies...yes run by mostly hearing. They re exploiting privileges. We must expose that while we continue hoping
Champ Vlog, Ella! thanks for your time to share and urge us to voice - the beautiful of ASL. This is the first time I feel so wonderful- inspiring and great feeling about this. Audism free!
Thanks, Ella for responding. I finally figured out how to access my comments. Tecchnology is ahead of me...smile..

Very powerful! I am going to wear a blue ribbon. Is it navy blue or royal blue? We should start wearing the ribbon!
