I think the only way to do that in Guild Wars is to essentially buy stuff that's worth a lot from players who might not know what the item is really worth and are selling it for cheap. So..scamming. Sorta.
Of course, people still sell stuff all the time, it's just stuff that they've acquired on their own by farming.

It depends on what you prefer doing. You can farm rare items/materials, or offer runs to people, hold contests... anything really.
