    I really appreciate the video jak i cant begin to explain how much i appreciate your video, help, & ability to care enough to keep posting videos like this to help people.

    I looked at all the comments in the past few weeks, it seemed like a 50% chance of this working based on the responses.

    I just tried this & was denied a free repair. I am an amazing liar & an even better actor. I gave them the biggest sob story & they wanted $150 USD.

  • @jakthebomb Sorry, I didn't include it but the other option which was to get my fat 60g ps3 refurbished for $130 or just go with the $100 trade in for a 120gb ps3 slim. I just got the slim for $100, i wasn't sure how much i should have battled with sony since i was already speaking to a supervisor and even he said they couldn't do it for free after discussing for a bit.

  • Well you are either really lucky or they stopped doing this. I called twice and even got to talk to the supervisor the second time. I was only offered a $100 trade in and that was it.

  • @jonesy2061 i believe because of this video more people have flocked to try this method and so they are no longer allowing their customer service reps to do this. But then again i am seeing some pretty recent comments of people getting away with this, so it could be entirely based on the situation and luck.

  • i just got mine back today. mine would not play any games but it did play my cd's and dvd's. sony put a new dvd drive in it. and now its playing my games. and they are giving me a 90 day warranty with it. and yes they fixed mine for free. sony rocks.

  • well, I can honestly say that I spent 23 minutes on the phone talking to the consumer services supervisor. I told them everything. gave them a sob story. told them how i specifically went out of my way to maintain the system properly. told them it wasnt the consumers fault. told them it was poor craftsmanship if it is an internal failure that cannot be helped by the consumer. told them i was litterly going to get an xbox. they offered me a game. sony would rather lose customers than help them.

  • that worked jak! I called the number and asked for customer service. The first customer service rep only wanted to charge me so I asked for a supervisor and then his supervisor and another who only wanted to charge me $99 to fix my ylod. finally I asked for a manager who had the ability to repair my ps3 for no charge. after explaining my problem and proving I have been a loyal customer to sony and producing my list of purchases they agreed to replace my ps3 for free. thnxs again!

  • Thanks for posting the corporate number and for taking the time to post these videos. I have no idea how you were able to get your 2 PS3 fixed - but they will not do it for anyone else. I spoke to the pain tech support, I spoke to the corporate number and I spoke to them eloquently but firmly. I did get someone, who shot me down right away and said that the device was out of warranty and I had to pay for the repair. No need to look for faults as to how I communicated to them because I am known

  • @pallatanga by friends and family as someone who gets things done and knows exactly how to handle corporate America (I'm an MBA student for crying out loud). The corporate number says that speaking to them does not change the policy they have at the 1800 level. No clue what jackthebum means when he says its a completely different group of people. It's not. Sony is the same company it always has been - Jerks that try and put the best product they can at the time and charge you big bucks for it,

    Incidentally - I would love to see Jackthebum's paperwork he received from Sony from his 2 repairs showing no charge - would be curious for that...

I sent my first email on December 24, 2011, then was approved for a free repair on December 25th. I received the shipping box on December 30th, shipped my PS3 to the Laredo, TX Sony Repair facility on January 3, 2012. Today I got a FedEx box and sure enough it was a new factory refurbished PS3 same model as my last one, as they were unable to fix the bad HDMI port on my old PS3

  • @FSX56 I did call them first and spoke with a Technician first to do the initial troubleshooting then I took that Service Request # and stated that in my email to Sony when I asked for a one time good faith repair.

  • well, my attempt failed. I talked to three different agents and they all denied saying that this option did not exist.  They said it was out of the warranty and they said that in order to be fair to everyone, they cannot waver the fee. I even spoke to a manager and they denied me this one time free repair. what do I do now?

  • Just an update my free PS3 repair. My PS3 80GB should be arriving to Sony's repair facility on Jan 9th in Laredo, TX. I'll keep you all posted on how it works when it comes back.

However, I rather deal with Sony's Customer support folks who are all Americans over the phone any day of the week compared to Microsoft's Xbox customer support who are all in India and frustrate the fu*king shit out of me. Hence the reason why I don't own my old PIECE OF SHIT XBOX 360 S 250GB HALO REACH LIMITED EDITION anymore because I had to send it in 3 times to get the connect button fixed and they couldn't even do that simple task.

  • In the summer I play on my ps3 for about 8 hours each day. Normally I play about 2 hours a day. But I have had my ps3 slim a year since yesterday, it was a christmas present you see. But I have played on mine a lot since I got it. I think my ps3 will last a long time. Obviously Sony build the PS3's in bulk because they are so popular around the world, but they seem to have a common problem where they stop reading discs and overheat. Had no problems with mine so far, it doesn't even get warm

  • Thanks Jak for the Christmas gift! In an effort to find some way to get my PS3 fixed through repair videos and came across your video as my PS3's HDMI port stopped working on Friday. It's out of warranty by three years it's a CECHL01. I sent an email PlayStation support and gave them a sob story and I got an email back this morning saying they just need my address to ship the box to me to get my FREE repair! Of course they said it's a one time deal, but I'm happy!

  • It worked for me, they are in the process of repairing my ylod. I called Sony repair 2x with no success, they even offered me 2 free 1st party games for my trouble if I paid for the repair. I had to contact them through the online service repair site and they responded a few hours later and told me to call them and they offered me the GGW.

  • @hellwolf882 I got mine fixed for free last week for the ylod. Try to write them through the support site and explain sternly and respectfully about how the problem is not your fault it is because of cheap parts and the system is not reliable. Throw in how Sony said the system has a 10 year life cycle and how 360 fixes all hardware issues not caused by the customer for free etc, etc, etc.

  • @xIIxRUExIIx Actually it doesn't matter how much you play the PS3. I average about 5 to 6 hours per week. The intercooler doesn't help the PS3 at all. The issue with thermal paste will affect the amount of heat dissipation the HeatSink will absorb. The intercooler just adds more air flow to the Heat Sink. If the Heatsink isn't absorbing the Heat the intercooler isn't doing anything.

  • @xIIxRUExIIx i've heard stories of inter coolers messing up the console do not use them with console break downs it just comes down to luck im currently on my fourth ps3 since launch and i do about 10 hours of gaming a week on it my friend does well over 20 and his original one is fine

  • after getting my PS3 fixed for free, and wondering of how Sony does this, I'm thinking they might have a secret checklist to see if they will do a free repair, here's what i think it looks like.... (1) How much was payed for the PS3 ? 600 or 250. (2) Was it kept it in a well ventilated area ? (3) Is this the first time you are requesting repair services ? (4) Do you have the money to pay for the repair ? (5) Are you being honest and truthful?

  • I am beginning to notice that there are a few, if not many, people that have had this happen. Sony said that it is not supposed to happen so i will believe that. I think I pushed my PS3 to it's limits. I have estimated that i logged in at least 8000 hours of gameplay if not more. then it finally died one day. not to mention, my first ps3 that broke after a few months. I took care of both of them like a baby but they still died. luckily i got it fixed free.

  • ok so basicly i got shot down twice, called sony cs and told them the problem ran through the trouble shooting so they could confirm, the cs tell me its going to be a $99 repair, i told her that i dont know why i should have to pay this fee because its a common problem and they should have some kind of recall on this problem, keeps tell me their sorry theres nothing they can do.

  • alright i bought my ps3, 3 yrs ago at walmart i got the one year warranty that come with it and bought a 2yr extra from walmart, i have recept and box still. but guess what its been 3 yrs and a month ans my ps3 80gb just experinced the ylod,ONE YEAR AFTER WARRANTY WAS UP! so im about to call sony right now, let you know the out come thanks for the info.

As much as I wish I had other options to offer to you, the PlayStation 3 comes with a one year limited warranty. Once the year is over, you are responsible for the cost of service.

  • Thanks mate, I felt like I deserved one for free with my second console now broken, but your advice made sure the customer gets what they deserve.

    Advice for others, make sure you blame Sony not the person on the phone, they're probably nice people. The moment I made that clear he put me on hold and a free console was on it's way to me :)

  • my issue isnt so severe but this is what it is: i play fifa 12 and score a goal. the instant replay is always stopping for a split second then continuing. it sometimes does it. this morning, i played my first game: it didnt stop. then my second game it did. i mean, it only pauses for like a split second but i dont know what it is help me jakthebomb!

  • They turn me down by email. They tried to talk me into a service fee. I will call on monday.
