  • err... This is a 15"/34 cal gun that was intended for the Scharnhorst class battle cruisers The US mounted multiple 16" coast defense guns during WWII, and Britain mounted many 17.72" Armstrong guns in the late 1800's to early 1900's, plus, lets not forget the US produced several 20" Dahlgren guns during the Civil War - these were mounted in forts along the Potomac to defend Washington DC. Plus those don't even hold a candle to the 31" railway guns "Schwerer Gustav" and "Dora"

  • @TheNaughtiusmaximus

Hi, this gun is a 38cm and the world's second larges cannon ever to be mounted on land. The largest was 40 cm (same type just bigger).

The Dora and other railway guns are not mounted on land, they are on railway tracks..

    Bst regards from Norway :)

  • @saveVARA it would depend on how you determine "largest". By bore, length, or weight? and "mounted". (casemate, open, or turret?) going with turret mounted you're probably correct; however, The US had 16"(410mm)/50cal casemate mounted cannon in WWII,and the UK had 381mm/42cal, which would make these guns 4th - behind the US, UK & the 406mm/34cal German guns. Also, are you discounting muzzle loaders, like the 450mm gun on Malta. try a wikipedia search for "coastal artillery" for more info
