Well, if that's the case, then Andy was an idiot and so was Blassie, because I don't see the purpose of two men sitting in a restaurant having breakfast and carrying on with shenanigans of one kind or another...I much prefer what Candid Camera did, bc it showed real people reacting to something set up...No, I don't think professional wrestling is real and have known that it wasn't real for a long time and I think the audiences who watch it have little intelligence and a lot of time to waste.

Watching this, I got the impression that Andy was intimidated by Blassie, and that Blassie was a health-conscious, arrogant cheapskate who spoke down to people he thought he was better than...Andy, as himself, looks shy, insecure and uncomfortable, unlike the Andy we see when he's playing a character...I wonder what Blassie's reaction to this video was, when he found out for the first time that his breakfast with Andy was secretly taped...He probably called Andy up and cussed him out good.

@fishandfestival No one in the world is under the impression this was a hidden camera job. It is a movie, plain and simple. It was probably mostly adlib, but it also was somewhat storyboarded and rehearsed.

@rb62470 If that's the case then Blassie must've had no shame, because he insulted the pregnant waitress by saying that her yet to be born child will be "another one that we'll have to support" *read welfare....Why would he say that on camera?...Also, I don't see the purpose of the video if Blassie knew he was being filmed...It makes no sense to me and I think it was a hidden camera thing.

@fishandfestival Read the comments here and on the other segments of this video and read the wikipedia page about the film. It was a movie - plain and simple. I suppose you think professional wrestling is real, even after the industry admits that it's fake. Blassie was a "heel". That was his gimick. He was supposed to be mean. Plus look at the various camera angles. This took a minimum of two cameras. It doesn't look like a hidden camera thing at all. No one says it was either.

Parodying 'My Dinner With Andre' . . . just brilliant. Andy isn't hard to understand - he is 100% in on his own joke. Once you realize that, you'll find some of the most brilliantly subversive, and fearlessly delivered, comedy ever. We're all fortunate that Andy's mind found expression.

makes me think about whether or not this should be considered art. it's a parody of an art film, and we learn about how our characters view the world. yet having breakfast is so everyday, we don't consider breakfast as art. what's the difference between everyday and art? is it that the viewer sees meaning or emotion in something?

kaufman loved confusing his audience as to whether or not something was real or put-on. is this art, or a put-on of art? is art all put-on? should I think less on it?

Yea...Jarmusch borrowed this kinda. John Lurie took it to a different level with "Fishing With John" Which included Jarmusch, William Defoe, Tom Waits, Dennis Hopper and a PBS announcer that is priceless. They all go fishing for...well lots of interesting stuff. If you can find it...
