This opera was Wagner's first great success and, typically, it has a heroic overture. The performance (December 3, 1938) by the NBC Symphony under Toscanini is quite exciting. The brass players are particularly outstanding.

Unfortunately this post is distorted by a distinct rise in pitch at 3:53, then a return at about 7:50.
