@Hectorrskates thats brilliant man fair play to you! im only 15 and i done mine in october and now im 8 weeks post up and was ahead of schedule but i tore my hamstring where they took the ligament from. its only a small tear about 3 inches so hopefully i can be like you and continue the progress! by the way have you ever pulled or torn your hamstring since the graft was taken out?
I had a torn ACL and a tear in my lateral meniscus as well as a bucket tear in my medial meniscus...suffice to say my knee was pretty fucked up lol, had the surgery around 7 months ago and i'll be honest it sucked, doctor said around 9-12 months before i would be back to normal ( theoretical 100% ) , as of right now i feel pretty good i had a good range of mobility and ability back in my knee , only main problem is a weak hamstring and sitting down (period of time) to standing up locks my knee
Thank you for posting this, I had the surgery last week and the explanation from the surgeon as well as other friends who had it was not enough for me.lol I dislocated my knee playing soccer and reset it when I landed on the knee.fml Torn ACL, damaged MCL, tore off a piece of cartilage, hairline fracture on my patella and "tibial plateau?" and lots of bruising.
just had mine just now. when i woke up from anesthesia, my legs feel sore. i cant bend my knee and it felt weak, and ur hamstring will feel like a bitch too if ure taking hamstring graft.

I just had my ACL repaired this past june 1st 2011 and another tendon was torn too. I forgot which one it is. But Im walking around well hobbling around at the moment. The doc had me bend my knee to a 90 degree angle the day after surgery...lol hurt like a mother but if its what I need to do to get better than I'll do it...
@TheCrazy243 you have nothing to worry about. with anesthesia these days, you won't remember anything. at all. i promise you. i went through this last summer, and this summer again. remember, you'll survive. it's not the worst thing that can happen to you. :)
had this done, 2.5 hour operation, came out 11.5 hours later, on crutches, was on codine and a bit of pain for 4 days until i stopped, started walking limitedly without crutches after 5 days, and now its been 10 days, near full range of motion, walking freely without crutches and near normal walking :) so is all good! nothing to be scared of!
Had this done YESTERDAY morning (still lying in bed, more pain today than yesterday!) and it's nice, albeit disturbing, to see what exactly was done to me. I hope I won't need those hamstrings for anything!
Having this done on June 6th been 5 months of hell for me on crutches not being able to stick any weight on my knee as it was giving way really painful thing to do!
wow I'm getting my surgery on June 6 and am scared out of my mind...i'm so worried after the surgery its going to take me a really long time to recover....i'm 2 months removed from my injury and took me a while to be ready for surgery...hope everything goes well
The hardest part is the first 7 days after surgery! After those days pass you will see the pain go down, range of motion is better and strength coming back. Do extra rehab exercises at home to help speed up your recovery.
Knee surgeys look like they hurt.......my friend tore both pittelar ligements and he asked the doctor to take a picture of it, it literally looked like a meatball sub with pulled pork covered in marinara
lol i just had my surgery yesterday. haha man i feel like iv just joined some kind of ACL support group when i read these comments. we’re all in this together.
i had that surgery on monday but my cartilage was messes up it was torn in half and moved into a place into my knee where it werent suppose to be so they have to move it and stich it to something, im on crutches and got a wheelchair and i was in hospital for 3 days all together and my foot is numb haha but its going well so far lol
I had this exact same surgery on the exact same day! Pretty weird haha... I don't know about you but my recover has been great! And for anyone else getting this surgery: don't worry! In the end everything is fine. I am back playing rugby this year and I couldn't be happier!
@HENDY270 i had mine three years ago and even after the therapy i lost 60% of my movement in ly leg. not saying this would be the case for everyone but i was for my.
@HENDY270 : wow well im getting my miniscus & acl surgery on nov.20 an im nervous i play basketball and thats how i tore them but i did this in 2010 and i could have surgery cuz they sai i was still growing well just found out today that i am going to be haing surgery
@DrizZyJ78130 that sucks about your knee dude, but the surgery is well worth it. just make sure to rest for the first couple days/week and do the required physiotherapy and you should have no problem getting back to your basketball in time.
@HENDY270 : wow well im getting my miniscus & acl surgery on nov.20 an im nervous i play basketball and thats how i tore them but i did this in 2010 and i could have surgery cuz they sai i was still growing well just found out today that i am going to be having surgery
@HENDY270 is your ligament just like it was before you had the injury? because I have been battling with a ligament injury for almost 2 years now but been "delayed" surgery because of my age (im 15). I am interested because it is becoming more of a possibility that i will be having surgery sooner now.
@SeantheSkater96 My injury consisted of a torn ACL and a torn medial and lateral meniscus... My ACL is still holding up great, which is awesome because apparently if you tear it again a knee replacement is a possibility. saying that, i actually tore my meniscus completely of recently and it has to be removed in may. the risks for that surgery are about 10x less than the ACL reconstruction. good luck with your surgery though! i'm sure you'll be satisfied with the results.
@HENDY270 before u had it did u have like a weird feeling when u put ur hand over the side of ur knee and bent it? almost like something is moving about inside of it?
If you think about it is really amazing how fast the human body can heal. I work in physical therapy and I work with A LOT of ACLR w/ HS auto. As you can see there is a lot of trauma happening to your leg. Next day of surgery you should be working on light open chain exercises. However, meniscal tears are tough, it all depends on what kinda of tear it is.
I got the exact same surgery 1 week ago its pretty cool to know what they did and how.... I wanted to record mine but i thought they wouldnt do it since im a minor 16 to be exact....
Im 6 weeks post acl reconstruction using the hamstring graft. It is quite painful the first couple of days after the op, but should ease soon after. just keep up the pain meds. at the moment the pains virtually gone, just a bit sore after intense physio sessions, and im walking pretty much normally. Also dont worry about how much u can bed ur leg (that can take 3 months to get back to normal) more important to get it straight asap.
ive had four of these, three on my left, just had one on my right, im almost one month post op. one and four hurt like a bitch. but the middle two did hurt for shit. i reccomend using another persons ligaments u dnt wanna harm anymore of ur body than u already hav, plus it hurts less
That might be true about an allograft, however you are more likely to have complications with a cadaver. Also I have seen clinically better recovery with HS auto's than allo's.
thanks for showing this surgery, I had my knee done yesterday, same procedure. Not that painfull I thought it would be. Hope to be fully recovered in 5 or 6 months .
@chargerbelgium Your saying the pain isnt that bad were you still under pain meds? Really nervous about after the anestheia wear off i have mine in the morning how long did it take?
@Snoopy3695 first night after surgery I had pain meds through the night, not really comfortable. Tonight I did some exercises and now I am ready to to go bed with pain :( I am guessing that the periods after the exercises will be the moments you'll feel the pain. Good luck with your surgery tomorow!!!
@chargerbelgium surgery went great more damage was done than what i thought not that painful but they took my staples out today and that hurt like hell. can fully straighten my leg bending not so much. Thanks good luck with therapy.
@chargerbelgium Your saying the pain isnt that bad were you still under pain meds? Really nervous about after the anestheia wear off i have mine in the morning how long did it take?
i had mine done one month ago today. not going to lie, its not fun for the first week, but it gets better and better each week. i can fully weight bear, pretty much full range of motion, bike, elliptical, jump, jog (although im not supposed to).
like xdariusx says, follow your physical therapy and doctor's advice and you'll be fine. the surgery is definitely worth having - this is nothing compared to a life of no sports!
I just looked at comment date, did you have it already?
im 17 years old i tore my acl last december while wrestling. i get my surgery done tomorrow its nice to see how the surgery gets done i was pretty scared now im at the point im ready to get it over with. also i wanted to no did they place something in you uretha(pee hole) during the surgery... and if u want to see how my injury happened u can go to my page and witness it... wish me luck!!!!
I just had my left knee done 10 days ago and had my follow up appointment today. The doc said everything looks fine but my knee is still pretty swollen. I can manage to walk without crutches but not without a limp. I'm allowed to start pfysio in a week or so i'm pretty stoked.
i had my left knee done about six years ago i had cartilage rupture and acl reconstruction had a hamstring graft, i got back playing football after a year and am fine now but still get bits of swelling but overall very good.
WOW nice to see what they acctually do. I had this done on my left knee bout 3 months ago. Still in Physical Therapy. I would go with a hamstring graft over a petella tendon graft because Physical Therapy is so much less painful.
well ice is one thing i havent been doing...yes it is still really swollen, so i will work on that. i havent even started physical therapy and have been in a knee immobilizer for over a month i have 5 weeks to wait until i can put pressure on it too. its tough.
@KKidGodStyle I had mine done at the same time as you and I can bend my knee to 100 degrees now? Perhaps there is excess swelling that's preventing you from bending it. If this is the case ice your knee for 20 minutes every 2 hours and try to rest your leg and resume the normal exercises.
Thank you for posting this procedure!! I wish that mine had gone as smoothly as yours! I have had 5 subsequent surgeries since the reconstruction (hamstring also). The tool that inserted the pins broke and spun shrapnel into the surgical site. I knew that my scars should have been smaller.
@2012Millers...work as hard as you can in PT, you can cry too...my PT was so painful sometimes I cried, kick ass!!
just had the surgery using my patellar tendon done in nov 23 few days ago im doing great kinda nervous about physical therapy surgery was a piece of cake
every day. Your surgery was on your left knee, right? Mine too =) wooh I'm so talkative. But I'm so psyched that I actually know how they did the surgery! My dad was begging me to get a cadaver because I wouldn't be in as much pain, but I didn't want someone else's ligaments in me. Bleh. anyway, great video! I want to watch it over and over and show people =D
OH MY GOD! THIS IS SO AMAZING! I wish they filmed my surgery! I only got pictures. But that's still cool. I had the exact same surgery and it's so awesome to see where the scars came from hahaha. I had my surgery in 2008 and last year I hurt my knee again by shifting my knee cap and bruising my bones. I hate it because it still hurts ALL THE TIME! although I know I didn't re-tear anything, there is definitely something wrong with the cartilage or my bone because it hurts at like a 7 or 8 every
I tore my ACL AND MCL AND 5uptured both of my maniscus Its been 8 day since surgery i hope i get better but im worried getting addicted to Oxycodone and im just 17 what shud i do
Nice video! I had my left acl repair 2 days ago using the hamstring graft. I had local anasthedia and the surgery was painless. Luckily there was no meniscus damage & so the repairt was limited to acl. After 2 days I can walk without much difficulty or pain. One question for xdariusx, did u feel any loss of hamstring strength? What extercises did you find most useful in recovering the hamstring strength?
ahw, that is disgusting :S i had it in August, and is was better than I expected :) its now almost 3 months and im fully dancing again with jumps/pointe and all ^^ if you do enough physiotherapy you should be allright
I'm having acl surgery on 11-12-10! I started watching videos and got a little nervous. I'm just worried about the pain after the surgery since they drill and cut holes in your knee!!
anyone else had a LARS ligament acl reconstruction? i had mine 10 days ago. healing time is only 3 months compared to 6-9 for a hamstring and they're much stronger and durbale aswell.
i'm 15 and i'm having this surgery done in like a month or 2. they're waiting for my mcl to repair itself before doing the surgery and they want to get my range of movement and strength back.
holly fuck...i'm getting this exact same procedure done tomorrow: ACL repair with interior hamstring, and meniscus repair. All know is to shower tonight twice and not eat after 12. Watching this is kind of reassuring. Is it possible to possibly for them to use local anesthesia so I can watch this live. lol.
It sucks. First 5 days are horrible. Im going on 4 weeks. ACL reconstruction MCL repair Miniscus repair

@TheCrazy243 you have nothing to worry about. with anesthesia these days, you won't remember anything. at all. i promise you. i went through this last summer, and this summer again. remember, you'll survive. it's not the worst thing that can happen to you. :)
MKoleva1 8 months ago
had this done, 2.5 hour operation, came out 11.5 hours later, on crutches, was on codine and a bit of pain for 4 days until i stopped, started walking limitedly without crutches after 5 days, and now its been 10 days, near full range of motion, walking freely without crutches and near normal walking :) so is all good! nothing to be scared of!
torkers1 8 months ago
I'm on day 3 after operation, loads of pain, very little movement! - have setup a blog outlining my recovery -
mridout196 8 months ago
Had this done YESTERDAY morning (still lying in bed, more pain today than yesterday!) and it's nice, albeit disturbing, to see what exactly was done to me. I hope I won't need those hamstrings for anything!

Having this done on June 6th been 5 months of hell for me on crutches not being able to stick any weight on my knee as it was giving way really painful thing to do!
Can't wait to have it sorted tues!
How much does it hurt when you come round guys?
agraled91 9 months ago
wow I'm getting my surgery on June 6 and am scared out of my mind...i'm so worried after the surgery its going to take me a really long time to recover....i'm 2 months removed from my injury and took me a while to be ready for surgery...hope everything goes well
HighOffShim 9 months ago
The hardest part is the first 7 days after surgery! After those days pass you will see the pain go down, range of motion is better and strength coming back. Do extra rehab exercises at home to help speed up your recovery.

I had this exact same surgery on the exact same day! Pretty weird haha... I don't know about you but my recover has been great! And for anyone else getting this surgery: don't worry! In the end everything is fine. I am back playing rugby this year and I couldn't be happier!

@HENDY270 How is the knee treating you mate?
julianken2008 5 months ago
@julianken2008 I actually ended up tearing my meniscus completely off during rugby again haha. I still stand by my word about the surgery though.

@HENDY270 i had mine three years ago and even after the therapy i lost 60% of my movement in ly leg. not saying this would be the case for everyone but i was for my.

DrizZyJ78130 4 months ago
@DrizZyJ78130 that sucks about your knee dude, but the surgery is well worth it. just make sure to rest for the first couple days/week and do the required physiotherapy and you should have no problem getting back to your basketball in time.

@HENDY270 is your ligament just like it was before you had the injury? because I have been battling with a ligament injury for almost 2 years now but been "delayed" surgery because of my age (im 15). I am interested because it is becoming more of a possibility that i will be having surgery sooner now.
SeantheSkater96 3 months ago
@SeantheSkater96 My injury consisted of a torn ACL and a torn medial and lateral meniscus... My ACL is still holding up great, which is awesome because apparently if you tear it again a knee replacement is a possibility. saying that, i actually tore my meniscus completely of recently and it has to be removed in may. the risks for that surgery are about 10x less than the ACL reconstruction. good luck with your surgery though! i'm sure you'll be satisfied with the results.
HENDY270 3 months ago
the only thing i have to complain about is an annoying piece of scar tissue that clicks every now and then.
HENDY270 3 months ago
@HENDY270 before u had it did u have like a weird feeling when u put ur hand over the side of ur knee and bent it? almost like something is moving about inside of it?

@SeantheSkater96 yes i did, probably due to whatever was torn floating around freely.

soraroxasdude2 11 months ago
If you think about it is really amazing how fast the human body can heal. I work in physical therapy and I work with A LOT of ACLR w/ HS auto. As you can see there is a lot of trauma happening to your leg. Next day of surgery you should be working on light open chain exercises. However, meniscal tears are tough, it all depends on what kinda of tear it is.

I got the exact same surgery 1 week ago its pretty cool to know what they did and how.... I wanted to record mine but i thought they wouldnt do it since im a minor 16 to be exact....

lildiablo818 1 year ago 2
Im 6 weeks post acl reconstruction using the hamstring graft. It is quite painful the first couple of days after the op, but should ease soon after. just keep up the pain meds. at the moment the pains virtually gone, just a bit sore after intense physio sessions, and im walking pretty much normally. Also dont worry about how much u can bed ur leg (that can take 3 months to get back to normal) more important to get it straight asap.

just had this surgery yesterday, knee hurts like a bitch, did you get nerve block?
martinman278 1 year ago
ive had four of these, three on my left, just had one on my right, im almost one month post op. one and four hurt like a bitch. but the middle two did hurt for shit. i reccomend using another persons ligaments u dnt wanna harm anymore of ur body than u already hav, plus it hurts less

@PostedAndBlown21 Wow your a beast aint no way i wanna have another surgery ever on my knee. Good luck with that.
Snoopy3695 1 year ago
@PostedAndBlown21

Snoopy3695 1 year ago
@Snoopy3695 first night after surgery I had pain meds through the night, not really comfortable. Tonight I did some exercises and now I am ready to to go bed with pain :( I am guessing that the periods after the exercises will be the moments you'll feel the pain. Good luck with your surgery tomorow!!!

i had mine done one month ago today. not going to lie, its not fun for the first week, but it gets better and better each week. i can fully weight bear, pretty much full range of motion, bike, elliptical, jump, jog (although im not supposed to).
like xdariusx says, follow your physical therapy and doctor's advice and you'll be fine. the surgery is definitely worth having - this is nothing compared to a life of no sports!
I just looked at comment date, did you have it already?

WOW nice to see what they acctually do. I had this done on my left knee bout 3 months ago. Still in Physical Therapy. I would go with a hamstring graft over a petella tendon graft because Physical Therapy is so much less painful.

KKidGodStyle 1 year ago
I just had this done, it's been 1.5 weeks and I can't bend my knee at all. Is that normal?
KKidGodStyle 1 year ago
@KKidGodStyle I had mine done at the same time as you and I can bend my knee to 100 degrees now? Perhaps there is excess swelling that's preventing you from bending it. If this is the case ice your knee for 20 minutes every 2 hours and try to rest your leg and resume the normal exercises.

The screws hold the 2 ends of the graft in place. 1 in the femur 1 in the tibia, they remain in place unless removed for other reasons.

Thank you for posting this procedure!! I wish that mine had gone as smoothly as yours! I have had 5 subsequent surgeries since the reconstruction (hamstring also). The tool that inserted the pins broke and spun shrapnel into the surgical site. I knew that my scars should have been smaller.

I want to watch it over and over and show people =D
ohheydarciemae1121 1 year ago
I hate it because it still hurts ALL THE TIME! although I know I didn't re-tear anything, there is definitely something wrong with the cartilage or my bone because it hurts at like a 7 or 8 every
ohheydarciemae1121 1 year ago
I'm jealous i just had mine done 9 days ago and i begged them to tape the surgery, they did but they kept it as a teaching tool.
so annoyed no karate for about 6 months :'(
still can't walk without crutches yet because i'm big but hopefully they let me take the brace off tomorrow.
pain isn't that bad but seriously the itchiness drives me nuts!
