This song is about Ralph Serravalle, Dallas's old religion teacher. It breaks my heart and sends shivers down my spine just listening to it. I hope I never get to relate to this song, I can't imagine how that would feel. I gotta give it to him, Dallas is one of the toughest people I know and a true artist. Tall man. Hats down.
My best friend committed suicide a year ago today just a couple of days before I was going to. Made me realise what it does to the people who love you when you die. "Missing EP is an EP by City and Colour, that was released at the same time as The Death of Me in January 2005, and was available only in Canada. The title song is about the death of Ralph Serravale, Dallas Green's high school religion and guitar teacher. Only 1000 copies of this CD were made and all proceeds went to the Denis Morris Catholic High School Starvathon which Serravale supported throughout his life."
My friend just died today and this song is all i can listen too... Serena you will always be missed but never forgotten! She was always stronger than me and a more happy person, something ive learned from and will always cherish for the rest of my life.
this makes me think of all the friends i used to have before i either moved or we just parted. i think the only thing that gets me by is Dallas Green he is an amazing musician and singer. Thanks for all the amazing music over the years :)

Dallas Green has said on many separate occasions that it was written about his guitar teacher, who's last name is Serravalle. Dallas Green is not a religious man at all. If he even believes in god, it is something that is within himself, and that he was never taught from a 'religion teacher'. Please, learn things before you go posting stuff, especially if you're going to post the wrong meaning of a song like this. Not trolling, just setting things straight.
I lost one of my best friends to a drug overdose 6 years ago, words cant describe how much I miss him,but this starts to scratch the surface of it, your always in my heart jay
In my opinion, Dallas, in his projects away from Alexisonfire, defines what should be the true meaning of "straight from the heart.. from nowhere else." God bless him and everything he's been through - he's come out wow'ing the world in the ways the world most needs to be wow'ed in its current state. He's inspirational to all of mankind to be as good and to live as best you can before one day you'll find yourself... missing.. but never gone.
@deadlypotato If I remember correctly, it was released on an album in Canada. He did it for a High School or something, I don't remember all the details. Either way, it's probably damn near impossible to find the CD this song came on.
This song really strikes a chord with me. It feels good to connect with music like this, something that can help console what ever loss someone's been going through.. I never understood why Mario left us that night, i don't think he quite did either.. R.I.P. Mario, loved but never forgotten.
It's too bad this song upsets Dallas so much, it's full of so much emotion and it would be really good live. Oh well, at least we have THIS recording of it.
Thank you Dallas for giving any of us who have lost a loved one a song to remember them by. We all love you.
@PolGrady Good shout, I noticed that mistake.. Wish i knew more about this.. not that there seems to be alot to find out surrounding this song as its pretty self explanatory.. Why did Dallas see him as such an inspiration to write such a lovely song about him? I'm a huge Dallas fan and i can't find alot about this particular song!
This is a beautiful master piece I know and You should know he is more then proud of You keep focused on Your emotions hopefully I can learn more from your work in the future and keep on writting
I wonder if Dallas knows how many lives he's affected with his music. It's absoloutely incredible, that one man can put so much emotion into his music that it calls to and heals people's hearts. I'm astounded, his music inspires me to live, love, help people, and not be afraid of what I feel. This man is my hero.
to all the people who have the thoughts, regrets and feelings.. to commit scuicide, please try to remember how it will affect everyone, and i mean everyone that love and know you. My friend had commited scuicide and most of the school didnt know her, but yet every single student cried the day they found out. No matter what you go through never turn to scuicide. NO MATTER IF WE KNOW YOU OR NOT, YOU ARE ALLWAYS LOVED. dont ever think anything different. <3
This song gives me the chills. No man makes such beautiful music as this one. He relates so well to your life, in ways i couldn't even begin to think of.
My friend Alisha died in a car accident today. She was hit on the driver's side by an 18 wheeler. I saw her yesterday and I didn't think anything of it so I just waved at her and made an awkward confused face. Now I regret that and wish I had said more..
Rest in peace Alisha, wherever you go, be at ease.
@IHateNicholas666 I think your gesture was the most honest one you could have made, with enough expression for her to understand, no words needed. Do not regret anything you did or didn't do. :) take care!
this song makes me think abt my grandfather who passed away last march...although this song breaks my heart, its jus so hauntingly beautiful tht i cant help but give it all my attention
This song reminds me of my Grandmother who passed away. She fell asleep driving herself to church on a Sunday morning because she had low blood sugar and she died on impact. I break down whenever I think about her. She couldn't have been a better person. I love you Helen Argondizza, I hope with all my heart's power that you are at rest. Just remember, it wasn't ever a goodbye. It was a see you later. R.I.P.

This song was my sign that my friend brett whom passed away is ok :) i listen to dallas all the time and theres noreason why i didnt hear this song before. then one night i got up the courage to finally go too bretts grave for the first time. i was devestated! then the next day searching lyrics i came across this song! Thank you dallas for sending bretts message to me <3
I went to High School with Dallas and had the pleasure of having a close relationship with Ralph Serravalle. He was a Religion teacher, never taught guitar but inspired many, since he loved music. So glad to see Dallas has appropriately grabbed his spirit with this tune!
Even if you are right, does it matter? Get over yourself. Dallas wouldn't want someone arguing over a song. It clearly means a lot, and means something different to everyone.
This songs been played live alot recently and is now making some money for the school that Dallas green went to. its was his Religion teacher who died btw.
Mr. Seravelli was a religion teacher at our school, he played a HUGE role in helping all of us become aware of the rest of the world and the role we play in it. Dallas played every year at starvathon (a school tradition to raise money for the less fortunate) until he graduated. Back then he wasn't famous he just really believed in the cause. It's great to see that he is still the stand up individual he was back then. Good for you Dallas, we all miss Mr Seravelli dearly.

@cheynecastillo yes... you're right I'm lying.... then again you could just look it up online "Mr. Seravalli Denis Morris high School". I'm not taking anything away from Dallas, I'm simply stating what this song is about and why he wrote it. If you really care that much get in contact with DM and ask them about the history of Starvathon and how you can help out.... then again, it's much more fun to be ignorant on the net then help someone right.....
No question. Dallas is above the rest. Maybe an angel coming through him.

DALLAS IS THE FUCKING MAN!!!

I went to High School with Dallas and had the pleasure of having a close relationship with Ralph Serravalle. He was a Religion teacher, never taught guitar but inspired many, since he loved music. So glad to see Dallas has appropriately grabbed his spirit with this tune!

you guys are retards...do your research. the song was about his religion teacher....geezus, have respect!
fireodin 2 years ago
Even if you are right, does it matter? Get over yourself. Dallas wouldn't want someone arguing over a song. It clearly means a lot, and means something different to everyone.
Just enjoy the song, arguing is disrespectful.

haha...
Have respect?
You just used the term 'retard' disrespectfully.
I would consider proofreading, bud.
TwentyYearDenial 2 years ago 4
you wanna talk about respect and you fling the term "retards" around carelessly.
Do your research on respect!
