  • its don beech !!!!!

  • Is that Benny from Crossroads?

  • wonder wether that was the same motor used in withnail and i, stranger things have happened. sort it out cooney.

driving gloves make me laugh, the only time i want to see them is when a bird is leading me into the bedroom at a brothel, now do one.

  • put your driving gloves on and start eyeing up skirt and blaggers, get your trousers on son your nicked, john thaw, ledge

  • i like both cars but i love the Ford Grenada she is such a beast and what a ride :)

  • Best tv series ever made !!! Got the whole lot on dvd .

  • Ford Consul <3

  • im in the new sweeney yay

  • People looked older in those days, hard to believe that John Thaw was only 32 here, Waterman only 26. Billy Murray was 33.

  • @OldSchoolRasslin If you watch The Sweeney most of the actors in it look much older than their real ages.

  • Johnny Allen driving Regan in the days before he turned to crime. Benny & Simon Le Bon in the Jag two career criminals that should have been stopped.

  • Blimey i thought McQueen in Bullit was a good car chase but this is superb.

Now why couldn't Inspector Morse have driven his Jag through Oxford like this it would have really added spice to a brilliant series.

  • Always wondered where the Granada got the damage from on the front offside, the junction where the jag pulls out looks favourite theres not much room for error and they used the take where the jags boot lid opens i watched this episode in 1975 at 15 still and will always be a classic.

  • Guy on the left Bill Murray,John Price voice in MW and MW2

  • he looks so much like his daughter jamie here. although shes way foxier.

  • "Crap the Old Bill..." >>> "Shut it".....Great opening to a great series.

What's this I hear about Ray Winstone playing Regan in a remake?

  • @Southland27 sadly i heard thats no longer going ahead

  • I have all of these on dvd, the pilot Regan and the two films, i have watched them all back to back.

  • Brilliant. And the driver went on to act in The Bill...What an anti climax ;-)

  • Those Jags were cheap and plentiful at the time, there were plenty in the scrapyards with terminal rust problems.

  • The Jag's not a Mk2, it's an S-Type.

  • Thats Battersea, I know them streets well.

They used to be my playground....

  • Nice driving by a young DS Don Beech!

  • Shuuut it!

  • fiction is always 10 years behind the times; wages snatches were old hat by 1974, most workers were paid directly into their bank accounts by then; in the 70s the fave crime was "across the pavement" blags on banks!

  • @regthrumper not totally true in the early 90s i worked for a building firm that fell victim to a wage snatch ,its a good thing i had a good few mates in the pub that friday night

  • @unclemort1960 i guess there are always a few villains who don't keep up with the times; just as there are probably still a few japs on pacific islands who don't know that WW2 is over!

  • @regthrumper i suppose i could be guilty of not moving with the times ,i mean i don`t have a mobile phone ,when i make a rare call i still press `button B` !

  • @unclemort1960 and I for my part still have an Olympia portable typewriter upon which I write my personal correspondence!

  • @regthrumper does your computer run on gas ? nice to see you write `personal correspondence` all this communicating by text is liking writing slade songs.

  • @unclemort1960 no it runs on one of those bicycle dynamo generators that aussie farmers use to power their radios when they call they flying doctor! Actually its 100% manual; sheer elbow grease!

  • @regthrumper well you are certainly very `green` not to mention red in the face from all that exertion.

  • @unclemort1960 just old-fashioned! and ever so slightly technophobic.

  • One of the greatest Car chases ever, no question!

The other great thing about this is it was done for real!

(The makers of the Sweeney didn't even ask permission to undertake the stunt before doing so, as such they could have ended up having the Real Fuzz joining in as well! :).

Seperately:AC still hold the M1 Speed Record of 185 MPH (unless you count that Jaguar took three of it's XJ220 Supercar down it in the 1990's [unoffically]as a "205 GTI" driver saw & found himself unable to keep up ;)

  • ave it

  • What a car chase ,classic 70s locations and no scum on the streets.Only double hard blaggers with stockings on their heads......

  • Great chase

  • Ha ha love it !!! oh no old bill "SHUT IT "

  • billys trying to look like godber from porridge with that haircut and silly expression. They both have beautiful daughters as well. so does waterman.

  • This episode was on TV last night - I had to come here and watch the chase again!

    Brilliant stuff.

  • I love the way at 3:22 he just kinda crawls out of the windscreen xD

  • Classic car chase 2 lots of empty boxes muddy puddle plus endin up in an abandoned warehouse, oh and throw in a couple of "shut it!"'s

  • @wotsmyname34 We're The Sweeney son, and we haven't had any breakfast. Classic line I recall as if it was yesterday.

  • @blagger56 It was dinner they hadn't had, not breakfast.

  • @FreedomForTooting Ι κνος, βθτ ιτ σηοθλδ ηαωε βεεν βρεακφαστ. Ι πρεφερ βρεακφαστ, δον'τ υοθ

  • @FreedomForTooting They probably hadn't had that as well :)

  • Watching this to also see period vehicles. Brings back lots of memories. Trouble is, it also makes you feel old !! ;-)

  • complete with not 1 but 2 crashes into cardboard boxes!!!!

  • @m4ndy34

Not to mention a very handy mud puddle wherever you need it.

  • Classic chase.

  • Its Captain price from COD games!

  • Was that Benny from Crossroads as one of the gang members?

  • @DarkAngel182

Yeah also you could say this clip acts as a warning for people who don't drive with their seatbelts on.

  • 3:25

  • Not a fucking seat belt worn,SHUT IT!

  • In your face !!!...They don't make men like this anymore...

  • Billy Murray (not Bill Murray) happens to be the father of Jaime Murray (the hot girl in Hustle)

  • 1:34

    Best 'Shut it' ever.

  • Shyat itt. Love how he flew out the windscreen xD

  • London must have been crawling with old stolen Mk2 Jags, LOL!! And what were they moaning about? EXCELLENT driving by Billy Murray there!!

  • ooooh boxes - look out

    lol

  • It's strange that the sound of the police car bell is not heard in the chase in this version.

  • This has to be one of the greatest TV shows of all time, whilst people can look back and laugh at 70's fashion, they forget that The Sweeney took the TV rule book and tore it up. Well made, well directed, well acted and with a realistic grittiness to its plots. It took TV out of a studio and onto the streets. I mean, just try filming a chase along a public road (2:35 onwards) weaving in & out of traffic. TV today has lost this, too much emphasis on bland dross with personal storylines being key.

  • The people at Euston Films had all paid their dues making documentaries, and so location work and an 'ear' for natural speech were second nature to them.

  • look lads, shut it

  • One of the first episodes of the show I watched nearly 10 years ago. That has got to be the best pre-credits Sweeney teaser EVER!

  • Sorry, gave you a thumbs down, should have been thumbs up instead. Completely agree. Billy Murray was Sgt. Don Beech in The Bill years later

  • isnt that lovable half wit benny from crossroads

  • Clunk-Click Every Trip.

  • I watched this wearing bass boost headphones at maximum volume, the trye screeeching is excellent, and this clip even contains those immortal words...........Shuuuut iit!.

  • best of the seventies,

  • has the siren been edited out of this i remember there being a siren on the consul

  • Good video. You could always guarantee that during the car chases there would always be the inevitable pile of cardboard boxes that they hit."Car chase scene?Right, get the cardboard boxes out".

  • I like how he laughs when the villain goes through the windscreen

  • Aah Bliss !! Absolute classic, These were the days long before the Political Correct morons decided we needed wrapping up in cotton wool and protecting from ourselves. Come back Jack Regan all is forgiven.

  • Too right mate! Loosen your tie, pour yourself a large one and tell your bird to SHUT IT!!

  • Ha Ha I agree except nowadays the birds hit back !!!

  • Not my bird! I tell her to put your knickers on and make me a cup of tea! (If only that were true...lol)

  • @Bevoin1970 Yeah the good old days of fit ups, forged statements, bribery and people doing 25 years for crimes they didn't commit. Brilliant!

  • @Bevoin1970 Political Correctness was invented by pakies, they will take over one day that's a fact thank fuck i won't be around then.

  • It's Benny from crossroads as one of the villains.

Here Miss Diane I got the Sweeney following me.

  • @ChessChat his overalls and woolly hat must have been in the wash

  • It's a Consul GT - the Consul has the spotlights on the grille.( And a Glovebox full of crisps and Mars bars for eating on stakeouts)

9 seconds from 0-60 - though I guess a police one might be soupedup

So it's a Consul GT not a Granada, got that you slagggg!!!!

  • and it was a manual most consuls were they were seen as the base models the granadas were seen as the luxury models and most were autos bloody good cars

  • Undoubtedly the best car chase scene of The Sweeney series, although it does involve the mindless destruction of a classic Jaguar.

  • i might be wrong, but isn't that a Ford Granada?..

    Great clip tho'.

  • who taught you to drive? evil? Keneival?

  • Top episode.

  • class. thirty years old and still fresh.
