20 september 1975 , i was sitting all alone at a local bar , suddenly they played this song
a very nice girl asked me for a dance and she is untill now standing by her man and i love her , we just have our 35 wedding day , time flies but still i love this song because thats was the moment my wife came into my life
She sounded wonderful here, it is hard to believe that she died a month later. Wow! Thanks for keeping her memory alive. She was the best and we loved her so very very much. She will always be the best there ever was in female country music. Thank you for keeping her legacy alive today. My daughter and granddaughter, now 16, love her to pieces. We sing along and wow what emotions she brings us. Saw Tammy in Plattsburg in1989 and she was great and so humble for such a big star. Thanks again!
This is so sad, Too bad she didn't know Patsy Cline, The two had a lot in common. Patsy could have ended up just like this, if she had lived to be in her fifties.
This was indeed 1998... it was March 1998 as a matter of fact... only a little over a month before she died. It was to be her last televised appearance before her untimely death in April that same year. If memory serves... she was filling in for an ill Loretta Lynn on this evening and that is the reason she was on the show that night... it was last minute...
Tammy , thanks to your song ( this song ) i thank God that a nice girl in 1975 asked me for a dance and since than we stay together , when we celebrate our 35 year wedding day ( 23 januari 2011 ) we were at a dance cafe and our 28 year daughter asked to the country band that was playing live to play the song *stand by your man *and i can tell you the tears came in our eyes Never forget this song and it s sad to see this clip were Tammy is in a bad shape Tammy whe both love ya
yes right sometimes its hard to be woman but most of the time its an art to be a woman....men should know that and appreciate it and stand by their woman as well...luv yah Tammy u'r great...
country is not my game ,im an punk/metal head ,in fact i hate the country genre ,but tammy was just a btilliant vocalist ,i love her voice ,its so sad she is not here anymore , rip tammy ,you was the greatest
country is not my game ,im an punk/metal head ,in fact i hate the country genre ,but tammy was just a btilliant vocalist ,i love her voice ,its so sad she is not here anymore , rip tammy ,you was the greatest
@clemsonbloke It was 1998 it was her last appearance this was shown by on tv when they were filming the memorial service, she was just looking healthier cause she gained weight.
Charisma personified. What a talent and such a loss at a relatively young age.
I'm 41 and was only a child when she was in her hey day, yet I would rather listen to Tammy than the manufactured conveyor belt rubbish churned out these days.
There are few great marriages that make it - I think Tammy & George really loved each other and she tried to "Stand By Her Man" for so many years. But there comes a point when you can no longer do it and they got to that point. It was great that they could still continue to do shows and sing together. She has such a unique voice - you always know it's her song by her voice. I can watch videos of her and George over and over again. I hate she had to leave us. Thanks so much for posting this
you know what im just an ol army brat/ country girl, not gonna get caught up in all this batter. I just believe that a woman needs to stand by her man!!!!
yea she does'nt sound as out of breath either, she is dead because of that gold digging sleaze bastard geoge richey, who loved her money and not her, he should be in jail for man slaughter.
and i thought I was the only one that didn't like that fat old bastard. I stated a comment on her "stand by your man" performance where she is wearing a red dress with the small hair due. George really didn't deserve her. It's just annoys me that such a pretty lady like her ended up with good for nothing men that like George Richey and Euple Byrd whom she had 3 kids I think. That fucker was too ugly for her and she didn't believe in her wow he missed out on the best lady. I'm 18 and shes my idol
I happened to be backstage at the opry in 1997 when Tammy made her last opry appearance and was heartbroke to see how she looked. She sure looked better on this last TV appearance and I thought maybe she was doing better.
Tammy was great, she has aged because of painkillers but is'nt as old and ill looking here as she was on her last opry appearence in 1997, loved Tammy.
sobefobik ... Gosh yes...There's an interview of her in her house with an huge ash tray filled with butts . In the 90s she was hospitalized for bile duct infection - after more than 30 years as a smoker, she quit .
"I couldn't have them in the hospital. And when I came home I simply didn't want one. God took away my craving for cigarettes, I guess. And my voice has gotten so much stronger. I always said that I'm not the best singer in the world, just the loudest. Well now I'm louder than ever."
@mathewmonty I don't think this is 98, Tammy looks really quite well here and can sing reasonably well. In her final oprey appearance she is very very ill and very frial and requires several backing singers and some others even jump on the stage to help her out, they ask her to do one more song and she starts it but can't finish it and they give up. If this is 98 then she got very much worse between appearances.
amen, a true old school country legend(b4 country music got stupid) she was a for runner(along with loretta lynn) they are the only broads who could handle the scene made by (and was perfected) men(but tammy and lynn did pull their own weight and are country legends, and are damn good ones at that) and made some true country music songs, not the gay shit thats been around since the 90's on up(alan jackson vince gill were from 90s but after those two REAL COUNTRY DIED)
It's a shame how she aged so fast, she was only 55 here, 7 years younger than Cher is now and only 5 years older than Madonna. She did look about 75 rather than 55.
She was such an amazing lady. I grew up listening to her music. I was singing DIVORCE before I even knew what the letters spelled out! She inspired me for so long and she always will. I miss Tammy so much!
This was so beautiful yet sad knowing she was gone soon after this. Thanks for sharing it though it made me cry for the loss of one of the true legends and Ladies of country music! The Firsy lady!
Hard to watch this. It is hard to think that this is the same lady as even a couple years before. You can hear in her voice that she is not well, she sounds quite breathy in places if that makes sense. She is still an amazing singer and her legacy will live forever. Tammy Wynette IS the First Lady of Country Music!!
Yeah I watch this and CRY my eyes out especially when I see other footage on here where she eases into "Keep Givin all the love you caaaaaaaaaan!!!!!" without any effort whatsoever. And I'm not talking about clips from the 60's and 70s......There's a few from 1993-94 om Markriss' channel (including one that was cut a little short due to time constraints on the original TV show it was from) which was maybe three months after she had Pneumonia in 1994 and she still had to put very little effort
Thank you for posting this clip. It is hard to watch. I have been a fan of Tammy's music for over twenty years. I remember the day that she pass away, I was shock because she was one of my divas in my book. Tammy we love you and miss you.
Singing performance yes, she sang Stand By Your Man and Take Me To Your World on this show. She was on the Maury Povich Show a few days after this aired, but not singing, just talking about cheating spouses and reasons to or not to Stand By Your Man
WOW Mat!! Thanks!!!!!!! I've been wanting to see this on here for a long time. my VHS copy of this is well worn. Hopefully you will get the rest of it with the high note on soon :)
The DVD I have the full version of this show on won't allow it to be copied no matter how I try. Which sucks, this is such a good performance.. infamous for obvious reasons.
Althought this may have been her last performance, she still looked pretty good and sounded great
