Absent evidence of injury, spectators (many off-roaders themselves) applaud & cheer effort regardless, even more so if exceptional, as a sign of respect for the driver, not disrespect. As off-roaders and enthusiasts, none like to see injuries. With proper prep, that's relatively rare.
