  • Hey, the pronunciation of your C's is South American Spanish isn't it? I was taught hacer, hice and acentos were pronounced with a "th" sound as in ha-th-er?

  • @MehndiKeRang

Correct. I learned a somewhat standardized Latin American Spanish where 's', 'c' (before e and i) and 'z' are all pronounced the same

  • ahh getting to say "puse" as loud as I could in middle school spanish class was and will forever be a highlight of my "middle school life". lol

  • My Spanish teacher showed me this video, and I thought it was stupid, but now it's the night before my final and I'm finding it helpful. Thanks

  • Did Mr. Burman teach you this

  • It's "pretérito indefinido" not "preterite" ;)

  • my spanish teacher makes us sign and dance to this song like little monkies, it really is quite degrading. Oh well.

  • poner is puse

-our class is so immature :)

  • Por que no todos los maestros son como tu

    como siempre muy buen video

  • The second part of La Cucaracha has a different melody; That's why your rendition doesn't quite fit on the querer, quise part. Try it the other way and it works. Search the keywords corrido, la cucaracha, and the traditional song comes up with black and white revolutionary photos come up.

    Nice voice!

  • I love this, but my left ear is feeling lonely

  • I really like this video -- your singing + guitar is so cool and fun. It's a GREAT way to learn. Music + Spanish = miracles :-) I know because the capitals / Spanish speaking countries are still in my memory due to a song/ beat we learned in high school!

  • @dearlydrewme

check out my website senorjordan(dot)com. I have a sheet that breaks down a lot of the preterite (it's on the bottom of the videos page)

  • Wow you really Helped an A level Student out man, Thanks :D

  • HAHA! I thought your song was going to be the same as my song! I love it that there are so many different Spanish Irregular Preterite verbs songs out there! :) Great Channel! You are so entertaining to watch, and you should definitely sing more, you have a great voice! :)

  • lol :D your so cute..nice guitar and vocal skillz !

  • My maternal lenguage is the spanish... this song is so hillarious, really good to help people that want to learn spanish.

  • What about conducir :(

  • @DistortedV12

You're right. Conducir IS irregular but the person who came up with the song just didn't include it.

  • super bueno

  • haha we watched this in class today

  • i did a test on the preterite and i got 0!!!

im doing a re-test on monday and my teacher says that if anyone fails he will make them write out the entire vocab list out by however many marks they faild by in the most inconveniant time as humanly possable

Just read this through and i guess im going to get a 0 on my english exam too...

  • Thanks for the song! My Spanish students listen to it everyday and LOVE it :+)

  • The best. thank u! ALso remember the usted form is -o not -io

  • @quitejaded

Gracias. As far as your comment, it depends on the verbs we're talking about...

    ver = vio

    dar = dio

  • @tontitofrito Muchas gracias :) I aced my quiz yesterday and now speaking in past tense is much easier because I will immediately remember how to conjugate. Learning when to use preterito vs. imperfecto is easier when you can conjugate with lightening speed. :)

  • (Continued) Hace + length of time + present tense indicates that an action began in the past and continues into the present, If you begin the sentence with the present tense of the verb, do not use que. Ejemplos: Hace una hora que estamos en la conferencia. Estamos en la conferencia hace una hora.

  • Here is another use of preterit.

    Hace with time expressions.

Hace + length of time + que + preterit indicates the time that has passed since an action was completed. This idea is expressed as ago in English. Note in these sentences that you can change the order of the words. If you begin the sentence with the preterit tense of the verb, do not use que. Hace tres meses que leí ese libro sobre el espanglish. Leí ese libro sobre el espanglish hace tres meses.

  • I hate it when people comment on you tube videos saying the person in them is hot or whaever. But you're cute. Haha. Shame you're married and I live in Scotland :p

Really cool song though. I think that should help me out in this exam on Friday.

  • Gracias senor por este video

  • Love this, so helpful.

    With thanks from England. :)

  • This Video is Love. Just saying... THANK YOU!

  • can you make a lyrics page

  • I love this song, I can't get it out of my head, which means I am repeating constantly ;)

    thank you for you work.

  • This song saved my life on my Spanish final! My teacher uses it for all of her classes to help us remember the conjugations, but I used your video to help improve the fluidity of the song. Thank you so much for posting this!

  • This helped a lot I have finals tommorow ):

  • This helps a lot! I have finals coming up! Thank you so much! :)

  • lmfao!

  • Check out a video called Spanish Preterite Rap. It's amazing and helps ALOT.

  • Dude you are the best teacher,

my new spanish teacher sucks like hell doesn't teach at all gives us a bunch of worksheets and makes us do them and thats how we learn.

  • i hav 2 more songs for u if u want them! for the stems that change to i its to the tune of "ten little indians" hacer hice querer quise venir vine decir dije these are the i-stems in the preterit, their stems change to i and for the stems that change to u its to the tune of "ive been working on the railroad" andar anduve tener tuve estar estuve poner pus poder pude saber supe their stems change to u hope these helped! i like ur song too btw (:
  • Gracas. Maybe I'll make videos for those if I get a chance with your permission. It's not my song. Just something I learned many years ago. :-)

  • @tontitofrito if u want to its fine with me! they arent my songs either though. the spanish teachers @ my school use them. but i dont think they would mind (:

  • Señora Beasely loves this video. Khurram is wearing sweat pants listening to this so he will do bad on his test.

  • i have to do something like this for spanish class....wish me luck lol

  • Thanks a lot I am studying this for my test Friday. My teacher introduced this to the class, and it helped all of us.

  • i'm a sophomore in college and a spanish tutor. I was telling this one girl that I tutor some tricks, and she mentioned this song! she said she remembered it for her exam.

    so...mad props! :)

  • I will have this song stuck in my head for awhile haha very helpful though Gracias Senor

  • ahahaha :D my spanish2 teacher had us learn this song last semester and stuff. but the ending was different. and at the way end we said "y sin acentos". but it still works:)

  • Senor Jordan

My Spanish teacher played this song over and over again in this past week and today while taking your test I just played it over in my head and i believe i got a nice A.

    Thanks :)

  • MAD SKILLS!!!! Lol.

  • Great video! Definitely made these a lot easier to remember =)

  • Can you give me the chords and the oicking pattern i want to play it for my spanish class and thanks it saved my life haha

  • Hey, I just alternate between G and D

Using your thumb, pluck bass notes:

*low E string and A string on G

*D string on D possibly alternating back to the A

Then you alternately pluck the low three strings with your ring finger, middle finger and index finger

    ¡Suerte!

Watch the video for the timing...

  • @tontitofrito thank you so much my spanish class is going to love it...our teacher uses your video in class alot and our whole class sings along to video to learn the forms so thank you

  • Are you a spanish teacher in real life, or do you just enjoy making Videos? :P

  • so, ser is the same as fue?? like all forms of ser? all the time? thanks

  • watch the video on 'ser' in the preterite if you're confused

  • Strange, my beautiful wife doesn't think so.

  • @tontitofrito don't worry man. keep doing ur thang. ppl can be horrible sometimes. u can never satisfy everyone.

  • @rodaBIG729 your mean, this was very helpful for me and im sure alot of others, if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all!

  • I´m a native speaker.

Obviuosly I´m not learning spanish XD but I must to thank you for this video, I find it pretty ingenious and hilarious! You have a nice voice!

    keep this great work

  • nice

  • I have a qusetion but don't knwo which video to put it on....

i don't know how to speak french

the book says to translate as no se/( e w/ an accent mark) hablar frances

can i say no se/ como hablar frances?

  • if you watch the video on 'saber' (to know) i explain that it is used to know information and 'how to' do something.

(yo) sé hablar francés. --> the 'how to' is understood when a verb follows 'saber'

    ex:

    Sabemos jugar al ajedrez.

    ¿Sabes tocar la guitarra?

However, if I know 'how' and a question I will keep cómo in there..

    ex:

Sabemos cómo se llama (We know 'how he/she is called')

No sabemos cómo está Pedro. (We don't know how Pedro is [doing])

  • So...the preterite endings for irregulars are e...iste...o...imos...ieron?

i thought it was i iste io imos ieron

    whats going on here?

Sorry if this is a not-to-smart question its that i'm testing out of spanish 2 and the book i'm learning out of sucksssss

  • "La cucaracha" was the first song I learnt to play in the guitar.. oh memories..

  • I'm confused...in your preterite-ir/ser video fui has an accent but at the end you said' no acentos..." woudl you explain this better in 500 characters?XD

  • I think I can do it in less! The font makes it look like it's accented but it's not. ;-)

  • Hola!!! qué idea más original :P espero que saques muy buenas notas en español, yo estoy estudiando inglés y creo que voy a tener que hacer alguna canción para recordar la lista de verbos en infinitivo/pasado/participio :P

    Saludooos!!!

  • thanks for the song! but i'm sorry i can't give you credit ;p but how do i figure out the other subject pronoun conjugations through the yo form

  • Comment removed

  • You are my hero!!!

  • Great!!! Thank you for posting! :-)

  • no.

  • I watched this video about 30 times this year alone! I started singing this during my exam - I got some looks from my classmates but I understood the irregulars! :D Thank you so much for making these videos - you've saved my spanish II grade! I have one question though - when exactly do you use the preterit tense, rather than the imperfect tense?

  • awesome... i was humming this to myself during my spanish test covering preterite vs. imperfect haha. just one question- since mainly, if not always, the imperfect is used for scene setting, would hubo ever be used? wouldn't it generally be había since you would be setting the scene of the situation by describing what there was at that particular time in the past that didn't have a defined start or finish? not trying to knock your explanation here, just looking for clarification... ¡Gracias!

  • great question... if you're just stating matter-of-factly.. 'there was a concert yesterday' ... 'hubo un concierto ayer'... or 'hey, there wasn't anybody there'... 'no hubo nadie allí'

but if you're telling a story and need it to be explained that 'there were [continuously or for the duration of the story] many people at the party... and everything was going well.... when THIS HAPPENED'... then you could use 'había'...

    Make sense?

  • @tontitofrito completely. I understand now. Thanks!

  • me gusta mucho

  • Gracias me acabas de sacar de una duda qu tenía desde hace mucho tiempo con los verbos irregulares....

  • Great video. Thanks for posting. (=

  • Why on: tuve, estuve and vine do you pronounce the v as a v? Surely you used be pronouncing it as b.

  • @Massey755 should*

  • Although we Spanish teachers like to simplify everything down into a nice formula, the 'v' and 'b' can sound like a 'b' or a 'v' or somewhere in between. This will depend on the Native speaker.

I often hear the 'v' and 'b' as [v] when they are between vowels such as the examples you mentioned.

  • Wow! que canción más molona :P

  • What a great way to learn these!!

  • Super

  • this is fantastic, I teach the little kids Spanish and am also still in the process of learning Spanish. I LOVE things like this that make it easy to learn.

    thank you

    Sharon cash

  • hahah my teacher always plays you in our class

  • In fact "Si se puede" doesn't mean yes you can it's just an autoreflexion if you wanna say yes you can then it's "Si puedes"

  • Sure it means "yes 'you' can".

It's simply more idiomatic and not a direct translation. Seriously. No one (or rarely anyone for the sake of not overgeneralizing) says: "Yes it can be done!"

  • @Larsandrew

I am a native speaker and "Yes, you can" means "Sí se puede". In fact, that's the phrase people use when they participate in political meetings, sport games or the like. You can hear the crowd shouting: ¡SI-SE-PUE DE!

  • i wish i woulda found this before having tos ing it to my class...woulda been so much easier to learn...least i passed with an A...

  • this is pretty awesome. wish i saw it BEFORE i taught my class the irregular preterite forms.

oh well... i'll leave it for review day. thanks! :)

  • Mrs. Richards, you should play this one for period 6 for our class lol

  • Awesome! This really helps!

  • This song is hard to pick up. Mrs.Hernandez you should change the due date of when we have to sing this song to the class..

  • Comment removed

  • LOL my friend had to listen to the spanish version of Sexy Back but she said it was "Cognets back" or something like that.

  • Ill Try To Learn That Song For School But It'll Be Hard : \

  • and you sing. Incredible!

  • I have to learn these. Thank gosh I found this video! You literally just saved me from failing, haha.

  • Hube ?

  • Thank you.
