The book Zen at War uses a number of mistranslated and out of context quotes (particularly in regards D.T. Suzuki) to make its point. Whilst it's true a number of Zen monasteries were swept up in Japan's military march, it was definitely not as widespread as this book claims. I enjoy Zizek very much, but he definitely doesn't care to let the truth get in the way of a good story.
I know some people aren't going to like this but I want to throw it out there to see if anyone agrees:
I don't think what Zizek said at that particular time was profound at all. I thought on this particular occassion that what was essentially an interesting and at the time slightly irrelevant point (that could be said in 1 minute that was wrapped up in 2.5 minutes of wind) but people gave him a huge applause, just because he is a famous intellectual and, on veneer level, an endearing oddball.
Psychopaths run our countries, they are the corporate elite who use their wealth to corrupt the system. Ask yourself why a serving Prime Minster in Australia, was sacked because mining companies became threatened by his proposed tax. WHAT SORT OF DEMOCRACY IS THAT? Protests in over 800 cities across Australia, US, Canada, UK, Europe, Japan, Africa, South America, Middle East. We are fed up being 99% of the population paying for the corruption created by the top 1%. Join Us. OccupyTogether Org
@GalenAus Because it's quite funny at what he has developed. Also, movement tics can be changed, although not altogether stopped. More people with this kind of thing need to learn how to do it! Especially if you are going to be on TV in front of lots of people. People love pointing out difference huh?

@wyrwich I strongly echo your comment that being sacked as Prime Minister for attempting to tax mining companies is extremely undemocratic.

@evAngeliis He's been doing lectures for years, if not decades. I'm sure he's fine with it.
