  • Theres nothing wrong with crank nosebands if the 2 finger rule can be applied, but the modern tendency is to overtighten them to cover poor training methods. Over tightening restricts jaw and tongue movements and causes bruising, tongue biting and stress amongst other things. It prevents displaying 'evasions' eg opening the mouth, putting the tongue out , these are signs of incorrect training and are not solved by tightly strapping the horses mouth shut. Lots of info on internet about misuse!
